No mate. You've got no common sense. And I'll repeat myself - no matter how many times you claim that I can't moderate a forum, until the admins feel the same way, I'll continue to do so. Regarding my knowledge of cricket and my ability to have an objective discussion, I have had several before, and had them with people more knowledgeable than yourself. I'm not being a dick. You are. You brought up Pakistan, and you expect me not to lose my cool. Congratulations. You're not only a dickhead, but a dumb one at that. Both Waqar and Wasim have claimed in the past that Tendulkar's one of the best they've faced. I've already conceded that Tendulkar has struggled against McGrath. I don't know how much clearer I can make it. So when Steve Waugh and Tony Greig say that Tendulkar's MoS is biased, it becomes biased, is it? Ok. Go stick your head up their pants and start sucking up. Don't bother arguing through "stats" if you're going to come up with an excuse for every thing I've put up.

Ponting, who we've been told is a phenom, averages 50 away from home against non-minnows this decade. And these are performances when he is supposed to be at his peak.(avg in India 21, in SL v SL 33) Injury riddled and a far cry from what he was in the 90s, Sachin Tendulkar averages 48 away from home(just 2 less than Ponting) against non-minnows this decade. (averages under 40 only in SL)

The abusive nature of your posts suggests you are someone who is not only mentally fragile but also utterly irresponsible. I would not respond via abuse( though you richly deserve it) , as that would bring me down to your level. And WTF about Pakistan..are you blabbering ? Both waqar and Wasim budding commentators know which side their bread is buttered. Oz corporates have been asked to praise sachin to please Indians. Common sense. http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news/Oz-corporates-asked-to-praise-Sachin-to-please-Indians/484580/

Because patriot is about beng patriot about India' date=' not being [b']unduely patriot about a player. I have said this before as well Sehwag is the most valuable test batsman today, for what he does to attacks early on and for the morale of the opposition team. At his rate if he scales past 10K runs, he would be one of the greatest of all times.
Oh so you are another of those "neutral" posters. There's someone I would like you to meet. Patriot meet fineleg. Fineleg meet patriot. :nice:

Nah P_K..i. I don't know fineleg, but what I have observed is that arguably one of the wisest heads on ICF, Dhondybhai conciously stays out of such discussions and doesn't speak out his mind for not wanting to get hounded by the majority Tendulkar bhakts here. He din't have too many supporters here when he vouched for Pontings mastery in another thread and then din't bother argueing. I bet you, his views on Ponting vs SRT coincide with mine, more or less - but he won't say it as brusquely. I just started a thread showing how Ponting's record in a decade of test cricket is PHENOMENAL and head and shoulders above his peers..and al hell broke lose with the Tendulkar bhakts here.

Forget the rest, Ponting is not even the best in Australia among those who he played with. Cricinfo statsguru has created monsters who spend valuable time (of a very worthwhile life that for some reason does not mind spending his otherwise valuable time digging up statistics and posting personal insults here; I wonder what kind of life that could be) finding out statistics to make a point against the popular opinion. Most anti -SRT fans used to say that stats are BS. They show personal achievements only. They argued how Tendulkar is a selfish player and how numbers mean nothing. Now that they have someone in Ponting who has somewhat good stats, they are overwhelming forums with numbers. But only if numbers could ever make a statement!! Statistics are data, they don't make any statements by themselves. Just like the vital stats of a woman does not necessarily tell you how beautiful she is. Like that, stats alone never prove the greatness of a batsman. Class is not something defined by numbers. But alas, like Harsha once pointed out, statsguru like the blind's elephant.

On the contrary, when SRT had the numbers, SRT was the greatest because he had the numbers, now when someone is better - stats don't reflect class.

You cannot deny that cricket is statiscs oriented. While it would be unfair to totally compare statistics across 2 different eras, if 2 players have played over 80 % of their cricket in the same era - you simply can't say statistics are irrelevant. Then you are living in denial. I have not even once denied SRT's greatness, but SRT bhakts can't fathom the fact that Ponting's personal achivements are not any less.

The fact that you start calling any poster who posts on the greatness of another batter " anti -SRT" just goes on to show how skewed your mindset is.

No, I am not talking about posters who post on other players greatness. That would make virtually every poster here, including myself, an anti-SRT. No, I am talking about a small group of posters that are indeed aniti-SRT.

Is this what you are so proud of?
Ricky Ponting will go on to become Australia's greatest batsman since Don Bradman, according to former captain Steve Waugh.
lol....the same Steve Wauge made the famous statement that "Sachin is the best (not going to become) in the world since Bradman. That was when Warne talked about his famous nightmare.

Ponting is a great batsman but ultimately its an individual opinion as to who is the greatest. People are wasting their time trying to prove to others who is the better batsman through stats. Statistically Jacques Kallis is a better all-rounder than Andrew Flintoff but in my opinion, if I were picking a side, Id pick Flintoff over Kallis. Just like that ... In my opinion, and its the opinion of many others too ... Sachin is the best batsman, taking into account all forms of the game, of the modern era.

Never ever has every one agreed on an online forum.

http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/117594/Ponting-takes-his-place-alongside-greatest Border too , just a couple of days back..made the same comparision with Bradman. Bharat I agree with you - its a matter of personal opinion -and you should be allowed to have one on a forum -without being hounded. what I admire about Ponting is that he has been an attacking batsmen throughout his career scoring those 11000 + runs at a very brisk pace. SRT was also very attacking in the 90's when our team was very average but has been far more subdued for a long time except for the occasional attacking knocks which is surprsing considering our team is much better now - but then again the little master is prbably just listening to his body.

I also admire Ponting for his batting abilities. But I consider SRT a much better batsman. But I think we agree that these are personal opinions and we need to respect each other's opinions.

LULzers. Conceded what point? Fact is Ponting is essentially a home bully as evidenced by his 67 avg at home and a mere 50 away. I use the term 'mere' because it's a full 9 run less than what SRT avged away from home in the 90s against non-minnows when the pitches were baaps of what they are today. And despite Juari being at his peak, he averages just 2 runs more than SRT away from home this decade. Simple as. And don't get me wrong. I am a big Ponting fan and have defended him in the past here. But he has not quite turned out to be the machine everyone thought he would become when he was plundering runs between OT 2005 and end 2007. He's had a below par 2007, decent 2008 and average 2009 thus far. Just 5 tons in his last 26 tests against non-minnows. As a comparison, SRT has 5 in his last 16 against non-minnows.

Patriot, first and foremost, I do not intend to argue with you on this topic. Like many others here, IMO Sachin is a greatest batsman of the modern era. However great a batsman Ponting is, I personally could never respect him. Call it shallow, but I cannot forget Sydney and his various antics elsewhere that do not allow me to respect him. No doubt, he is a superb batsman but I personally cannot look up to/admire a guy who's a lousy sore loser/whiner otherwise. Now I do NOT want to start another debate here, but this is just how I feel. P.S 1) In the link that you posted, Border says that Ponting's the best Australian batsman since Bradman 2) The above statement does not, in any which way mean that Border has compared Ponting to Bradman!

in all fairness ponting is easily one of the best modern batmsen this era, with him are lara and tendulkar but imo hes a tadd behind these two greats, imo greater stats wouldnt show that, ponting may score runs but hes certainly not as entertaining to watch as these two and more importantly lara and sachin have a special ability in batting lara can score big big runs in tests sachin has almost the perfect technique and balance i admit again ponting probably will beat tendulkars record of runs in tests, but that said, im sure he will not be rated the greatest batsmen since bradman likewise with sachin or lara! not just runs how well you cann rate a cricketer, has to be his behaviour off and on the pitch and quite franquely hes terrible in both and this can be bad for trying to be a role model of sort! this era belongs to lara and sachin and ponting! the trinity:two_thumbs_up:
