Do you want me to pull up the stats of the test matches where SRT has played Aus with his nemesis Mcgrath ? Both his last 2 series..in Aus..he dint get to face his ultimate nemesis, as was in the recent series in India. The last time Mcgrath did play even in India..he owned SRT big time. :

first rate taste means you discern and admire a masterpiece of a genius first and foremost. you can clearly distiniguish between geniuses, great,very good and good. that means as a tennis lover,you admire the creative shotmaking of federer. if you think roddick is a genius, there is a clearly a problem with your taste. :)

How many people would pay to watch Ponting? Not many How many people would pay to watch Sachin? You could exclude all of India and you'd still get millions People recognize greatness. Sachin has that x-factor which makes him so great. Ponting has had the advantage of coming in after Langer, Slater, Taylor, Hayden have killed the spirit of the bowlers. Tendulkar for many years carried the whole team on his own. Our openers would get out cheaply and put a bounce in the step of the bowlers and he'd have to come in to face that. Lets look at how often Tendulkar has been screwed over by crappy umpires and how often Ponting is given a chance early on in his innings, yeh it is not their fault but it makes a massive difference when you start looking at stats and look past what actually happened when they were in the middle

Ponting should rightly go down as one of the greats, you can't downplay his achievements, he is a beautiful player to watch when his at his best. For me, no matter what the statistics say he is still not in the Tendulkar/Lara mould but he is not as far off Tendulkar as some Indians would tend to think.

Captained his side to two sucessive world cup wins, is an excellent fielder and slips catcher, a very accomplished batsman and ambassador to numerous charities and fund raisers to help under priveleged children. Why would people deprive themselves the opportunity to see him ? I honestly don't give a shyt about his sledging, poor sportsmanship and all that. Too much is made of that nonsense, storm in a tea cup, you could say. As far as personal preference goes, I really enjoy watching him bat.
