Srinagar: Major J Suresh Suri, of 13 Rashtriya Rifles, who was martyred during the guubattle with terrorists in the Bandipora encounter in Jammu and Kashmir, was laid to rest on Friday in Hyderabad. His comrades in arms bid goodbye to Major Suri, who laid down his life battling terrorists on Wednesday. Major Suri and another jawan were killed in a 24-hour-long encounter in Bandipora during which the Army eliminated four terrorists, including Hizb-ul Mujahideen senior commander Pasha and Lashkar-e-Toiba's Musa. The Major's wife Pallavi was visiting him when he was called to action. "He was married last year and his wife had come down for a short duration to visit him. That is when this encounter took place," said Colonel JS Brar, Army Spokesman, 15 Corps. A resident of Hyderabad, Major Suri was commissioned in the Kumaon Regiment eight years ago and had been posted to Jammu and Kashmir just one year back. The braveheart would have turned 30 next month had not the terrorist bullet cut short his promising career. India as a country is advancing is all other places, but if we don't protect ourselves properly we'll be brought back down.
