If so, then if the person doesnt really know the exact Date of Birth, then there will be some Discrepancies. Cant astrology be used to predict lottery numbers?:tounge_smile:

One of them was that I was to become an engineer. As it turns out, I did MBA and have a happy career. The other three are yet to come false.
triam Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 I consider myself to be a strong atheist and skeptic, my parents are very religious and believe in all sorts of stuff. I dont argue with them or belittle them for their beliefs, they are comfortable in what they do and it keeps them from despair, so all is good. I dont have a problem with people who believe in astrology, rather the astrologers who fleece money out of so many innocent folks.

CricketGirl Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 hun i am not the sort that is unable to balance one from the other, yes i believe in god there is nothing wrong with that but for example an elder tells you to do (or not to do) a certain thing because "it offends the gods" then i want a logical reason for it to tell me that it "offends the gods" is not logical so i wont follow it! ok lets get back to nitty gritty of this topic about astrology, future prediction etc and i'll give an example of what i considered as utter stupidity: i friend of mine, trying for a baby for the last 13 yrs, she's at her wits end because its not happening, now the medics have already told her she needs to lose weight sort out her diet etc which she hasnt done she went to this so called astrologer who said yes i can see it happening u give me XYZ amount of money and i'll make it happen but then she had to keep going back! in the end i told her this guy is ripping u off stop spending time with him pretending to do all this jantar mantar and go home to hubby and get jiggy with it! THAT my dear is the best way to better ur chances right? ok i understand she wanted a ray of hope and all of that all she was left with now is a hole in her damn bank balance and this astro funk is laughing all the way to the bloody bank! wtf!! did i write that?? :idunno: note to self NEVER try to debate after a heavy workout!

I am not picking a fight or anything but i just want to know how you rationalize one belief but not the others. So what do you do with your beliefs ? Go to temples ,say a prayer etc ? My parents are extremely religious and superstitious. I got lot of stories with these kinda astrology,numerology etc. bogus predictions.

And that is not borne out in this thread so far. 3) I am not contending anyone's position is right or wrong in this thread. I am just supporting the right to believe what they want without being branded "stupid". This has been the purpose of this thread from the OP. It has left no room for an educated discussion as one point of view has been touted as clearly the more "intelligent" one. :two_thumbs_up::two_thumbs_up:
urbestfriend Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Years back I remember I used to argue with everyone that god doesn't exist and belief in god is irrational n all...I always thought I am a strong person and a strong person don't need god...This changed when I had to go through this painful time of my life..I'd sometime think "god, why are you giving me this pain.Please save me from this"and some time "I am strong person, I shouldn't become weak during difficult time, god doesn't exist" sometimes I think " why me? If there is god, he wouldn't do this to me" some other time " why me only? why suffering at all?why some are rich and some are poor? why this world appears planned , but all beings have different way of thinking? may be this is all god's game"...My so called rationality went to task...How I wished if I were irrational and a believer int he first place, which would've helped me sailing though tough times...How I felt so called Ignorance is real bliss

Truthfully? i dont do anything i dont go to mandirs unless i have to go with the family i'm not supersticious i just have faith that there is something beyond us that looks out for us as humans all the numerology superstition etc is crap!! my sons got a really weird date of birth what does that say about him? nothing! he's just like any other kid!

Your belief in god is based purely on faith and there are others whose belief in astrology is also based on faith. I don't know how is one rational and the other not. :dontknow:
