Dinx - the Jinx Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 well guys.. apart from SCG, I havent been to any other international venues... and from what you guys have shared in your posts, I can understand that there is a difference.. between facilities... which is not surprising.. the diff is not just in cricket grnds.. its there in every walk of life.. all i was trying to explain in my post is that not all stands in the grounds are the way it is made out to be.. there are good stands also that come at a higher price.. and ur point that why should price be a matter in determining the facilities available for the fans.. i agree to that too. my point was if ppl are intolerant, then they should be opting for the better things may be at a higher price... instead of getting upset over lack of facilities and rubbishing everything.. as you said, for most of us here in india, going to the game and watching india play and win against opposition is the foremost thing in mind.. the other difficulties associated with buying tickets, getting to the stadium, standing in que and getting crushed, harrassment from police, the heat of the sun etc are all forgotten once we enter the stands and see our heroes perform and win.. believe me, all these other things are of least concern (and i have many of my friends who also feel the same) when we watch a match in the grounds. so sometimes i get a little disturbed when ppl keep complaining about the heat, the crowd, the facilities etc.. damn.. my logic is - if u want to watch india win.. why cant u put up with a little discomfort?.. but as i'm coming to understand from you guys, especially those who are abroad and have the luxury of experiencing facilities around the world, not every one may feel like me and they would demand the basic facilities atleast (sometimes, what is basic in a non-indian context is equivalent to luxury in indian context). ok now - because facilities in indian grounds are way behind those abroad, is it going to stop me from going to the stadium? I dont think so.. I'll stil go. Same way if yo are crazy about cricket, dont mind these discomforts and go to the stadium and enjoy and please dont come back and complain that u had to endure **** cos u went to a *****y stand. If your tolerance level is very less, then go for a better stand or just stay at home and watch on tv.. but believe me guys.. india and indian infrastructure are growing/improving at a good space and in another few years i'm sure we'll get to experience all that you see in australia or england.. i'll let you guys know once that happens.. and you can come home and enjoy.. :two_thumbs_up:

(Aside from your mention of Yankee stadium, which I despise - that said I'm a Boston fan :D) Umm..I know as much about baseball as much as P. Chidambaram knows about Hindi. I went there forcibly for the first time this August, at the persuasion of my American Filipino ..ahem. The other team was Chicago, whic h lost something like 10-0. I understood zilch, but the girl was happy.:winky:. Apart from that very nice facilities ( supposedly the newly renovated Yankees stadium) but what boring shII te game compared to cricket.:finger:

Don't ask me anything more because I don't understand the game. I am sure if you follow the team you would know they got beaten 10-0 by Yanks sometime. Regarding the people...Yankees is at Bronx...and you would know Bronx can be a dangerous place.

Will add pics tomorrow. :D Meanwhile, here's my experience - I reached the stadium 20 mins late thanks to the Delhi rush hour traffic. Kotla looked a picture from the outside. I took the lift to my box with Lalit Modi, Shashi Tharoor and some bodyguards. By the time I took my seats, Veeru and GG had been dismissed. Initially I was glued to the action in the middle but after getting bored with Delhi's insipid batting, I started to look around. And who should I see sitting to my left? David Coulthard! 5 mins after I spotted him, Pommie Mbwangwa and Gautam Bhimani came to interview him. I wandered around after DD's innings and reached the top level of the stadium. Will add some pics I took from there. I happened to walk through a glass door whilst trying to find my seating area and I immediately knew that i had walked into the VVIP area. I saw Lalit Modi, Shashi Tharoor, Prabhu Chawla, David Coulthard, Niranjan Shah and a bevy of firang and desi beauties. Modi was surrounded by groupies who laughed like sidey hyenas at all his attempts at humour. I wined and dined there and acted important but soon got bored as it seemed as if I'd come for a fashion show after party, not a cricket match. As I was leaving that room, some short fat woman who stopped me and asked for my special pass. I told her that I didn't have one and that no one had asked for it when I came in. She started rambling on about the area being strictly for VIPs etc but I walked off to the lift and went back to my stands. Victoria won easily and there was a spectacular fireworks display of which I didn't have the best view. All in all a good experience. Kotla is a terrific stadium and I will definitely be there for the India-Australia game.
Gambit Posted October 11, 2009 Author Posted October 11, 2009 Regarding the facilities, the toilets were alright, not as shockingly bad as some of you guys think they are. I've been to Lord's a few times and the toilets there was pretty pathetic.
