Thursday 8th October 2009 Mumbai, Ahmedabad to get Test matches Mumbai and Ahmedabad are set to be allotted two out of three ties during the Sri Lanka tour of India in November-December. Both these cities were denied the chance to host Tests against England last year following the November 26 terror strike. The Cricket Board's Tour Programme and Fixtures Committee, headed by Lalit Modi, will meet in Delhi on October 9 to finalise the schedule of Sri Lanka's visit as well as the tour by South Africa to this country early next year, according to BCCI sources. Both the home rubbers would comprise a three-Test series and a five-match ODI contest. The interesting point when the programme is announced is whether the famed Eden Gardens in Kolkata would get to host a Test match after two years. The BCCI has cited its rotation formula for denying one of the most revered venues in the world from getting a chance to host a Test for the first time after the India-Pakistan match in November-December, 2007. The 90,000-capacity stadium last hosted an ODI in February, 2007 when India clashed with Sri Lanka following the allotment of the tie to the Cricket Association of Bengal, which is currently headed by former BCCI and ICC Chief Jagmohan Dalmiya. Celeste
What are pitches at Mumbai & Ahmedabad like recently? With Murali,Mendis & Herath , India just cant prepare square turners. Link to comment
Guest Hiten.
What are pitches at Mumbai & Ahmedabad like recently? With Murali' date='Mendis & Herath , India just cant prepare square turners.[/quote'] Mumbai pitches are notorious for being square turners. Ask Australia. A'bad pitches are usually dead but if the curator is in some retarded mood he'll make green pitch out of nowhere. Ask India :(( Link to comment
cowboysfan
i dont think even the BCCI is that stupid to prepare turning pitches for the lankan tour. Link to comment
Shane
Yes !!! :yay: But which stadium? Link to comment
SachDan
Since renovation work is going on at Wankhade, I think Brabourne stadium will host that test match. Link to comment
patriot
Mumbai test is a sure shot result - arguably the most result oriented test match venue in India. Good for swing bowlers and turns a great deal as the test progresses. I think we should prepare a nice grassy deck to the fullest advantage of Zak, Ishant in exposing the FTBs from emerald Island. CCI or Wankhede both are equally result oriented - CCI is more swing bowler friendly - being closest to the Marine Drive breeze. Link to comment

Zaks been out and Ishant has been throwing crap. Link to comment
patriot
^ Well then we should get in Sreesanth and Munaf to back up - both have bowled superbly in the Irani match. You can say Tushara and Kulu have been bowling well - but we are playing a country who's collective spin combine ( Murali and Mendis ) is probably ( atleast on paper ) better than ours without Kumble now. Gambhir is in great form and if Veeru hits a purple patch - it doesn't matter which combination of trundlers SL bring to India - we are almost guaranteed a rollicking start. Link to comment

graphic23
Meh, I think the teams are pretty evenly matched given the crappy form that Ishant is in, and perhaps Zaheer would lack match practice. I have no expectations from our bowlers anymore (given that Kumble is no longer part of the team). Batsmen, we're probably better but given their superior bowling - it should make for an interesting series. Link to comment

Not suggesting we prepare turners, just saying SL have decent bowlers too and if we get over-confident things could backfire. Link to comment
Cricketics
Man Ahmedabad for test match. The people don't even turn up for the game when India is batting too. I hope they give a game or tow to Eden Gardens. Best in terms of Crowd and Stadium is one of the best in the world. Why isn't Eden Gardens never given good amount of matches to host. Link to comment

Guest Gunner
I think they should host all the test matches in the south (more educated crowd) and all the ODIs and T20 circus up north (for the northie mela equivalent). Link to comment

We have already had debate on this during Harisampath days. The thing is that the educated crowd which you see in Chepauk stadium in Chennai etc is mostly from North India. Most of the banners are written in Hindi. and those people come from North India and Parts of West like Bombay etc. It's the mixture of North and west which fill up the staidum. Hence you see Hindi chants and Hindi slogans all over the place in Chennai stadiums. and amidst all that you see few people with Tamil Banners too. Those are your local people from Chennai.
