Actually people will make more fun of the failure of an arrogant person than a modest one' date= I think. Yea people can fake anything, but you can't really get away with fakeness for too long, unless you are real good.

Modesty arises from two sources: 1. Humility and maturity. Tendulkar's modesty would fall into this category. However, 2. Superstition is another source of self inflicted modesty which is rather hollow. A number of our players are quite superstitious and that might be the source of their modesty.
