Chief selector Iqbal Qasim told Reuters that a request by the team management to send senior batsman Younus Khan to Australia before the second Test in Sydney starting on Sunday had been put on hold. "The team management had asked us to rush Younus to reinforce the team but after discussing the matter with the board chairman we have decided that a final decision would be taken after the second Test," Qasim said. Pakistan lost the first Test by 170 runs.

SCG pitch will suit Pakistan: Katich Australia opening batsman Simon Katich says Pakistan will be dangerous opponents on a slow SCG pitch in the second Test starting on Sunday. More... Australia batsman Simon Katich says SCG pitch will suit Pakistan By Greg Buckle January 01, 2010 Australia opening batsman Simon Katich says Pakistan will be dangerous opponents on a slow SCG pitch in the second Test starting on Sunday. Katich, the NSW captain, says the wicket is expected to take some turn. After Australia won the first Test by 170 runs in Melbourne on Wednesday, Pakistan are strongly considering recalling leg-spinner Danish Kaneria to play alongside off-spinner Saeed Ajmal in Sydney. “It's such a short turnaround, the key for us is to try to win that first hour come Sunday,” Katich told reporters at the SCG on Friday. “That's always the toughest thing entering a new Test match. “Pakistan played some good cricket throughout. They got through the game with some good performances as the game panned out. “We're certainly wary of what they can throw at us. “The conditions here will no doubt suit them. The SCG spins a bit and it's a slower wicket so we know we're going to be in for a contest.”

Pak coach places seniors under notice Pak coach places seniors under notice Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam has warned the team's senior players to either perform or perish after their shambolic show against Australia. The warning from the coach came during a team meeting held to carry out a post-mortem of the 170-run first Test defeat at the MCG. Alam made it clear that he was not satisfied with the performance of some players especially the seniors, who need to stand up and take more responsibility. According to local media reports, Alam, a former Test captain, made it clear that if some of the players didn't improve, he would be left with no choice but to look at other options. "Intikhab and captain, Muhammad Yousuf had a long meeting with the players and the coach made it clear that he was not satisfied with the efforts of some senior players and wanted them to do more," a report said. "The coach said he was disappointed that some players despite being advised repeatedly were committing the same mistakes again and again and were not seriously working on their own game," another report said. Pakistan were crushed by 170 runs in the first Test in Melbourne and go into the second Test from Sunday at Sydney with Australia sensing another series win as the Pakistanis have crossed the 350 mark only twice in their last 14 innings.

perform or perish :haha: what next, U-19 team gonna play instead :winky:

And now' date=' we will see a coach being replaced .:winky:[/quote'] he's a really old (69 yrs) fart newayz, they prolly appointed him so that they do not lose a valuable coach to a terrorist attack.

That was a random theory' date=' but they could have Wasim Akram for instance. There was Bob Woolmer earlier who met a tragic end, although that was maybe some other story.[/quote'] If Wasim is made Coach with Waqar always around Pakis as bowling coach every now and then all hell will break loose on the factionalism front. Imagine Wasim Coach, Waqar Bowling/fielding, Yoyo captain. Then there will be 3 Pakistan teams slugging against each other in the same match. :two_thumbs_up:

Intikhab Alam is trying to earn his keep now, his plush pension is at risk if the Paks lose this one badly. So hes making noises inside the pot. Pakistan dont have the money to pay for a foreign coach so the Poyzz will have to do with 70 yr old Inti and his fielding drills.

Yousuf, Alam not happy with PCB move Yousuf, Alam not happy with PCB move The PCB's decision to appoint a specialist fielding coach did not go well with captain Mohd Yousuf and coach Intikhab Alam. The PCB might have made up its mind to appoint a specialist fielding coach for the team after the ongoing Australia series but the decision did not go well with the captain and the coach, who feels the move will hardly make any difference. Both Yousuf and Alam were of the view that unless a player understands the significance of fielding in modern day cricket, it will be very hard for them to improve upon. Pak to get specialist fielding coach Although former captain Waqar Younis has been attached with the team in Australia as bowling and fielding coach, the PCB chairman Ejaz Butt has said it has been decided to have a permanent fielding coach with the team after the series. But Yousuf told the media in Sydney that he did not believe that there was more the players could do to improve upon their fielding. "Fielding is an area where individual hard work matters a lot and some players are born outstanding fielders. We are already practicing lot of fielding drills all the time," Yousuf said. "In the past also we have hired fielding coaches like Jonty Rhodes in 2006 but nothing much came from it," he noted, adding, "Whoever comes will do the same kind of practices and throw lots of catches which is already happening now," he said. Incidentally, on recent tours Pakistan also had a local fielding coach in Mohtashim Rasheed. But he was removed after the ODI series loss at the hands of New Zealand in Abu Dhabi. Pakistan coach Alam pointed out that unless the players are passionate about fielding from their early days, it would be difficult to push them when they graduate to the international level. "We need to change the way we approach fielding drills and catching practice sessions at the domestic level. Players need to understand how costly one dropped catch can be in a match. "We dropped both the Australian openers in Melbourne and they went onto score nineties," he noted. Pak coach places seniors under notice Alam, who is under fire for not contributing enough to the team as its chief coach, said his players did a lot of fielding practice with the coaches. "I'm not going to make any excuses about the conditions, the crowds and how we might not be used to it. There are some youngsters, some new guys. The department is such that if you work hard at it you can really improve. "We have hours of practice where we practice slip catches, high balls, flat ones, diving ones, running ones. We cover everything but I've been saying for a long time, it is a grassroot problem," he said. He pointed out that Pakistan had also produced some outstanding and natural fielders in Javed Miandad, Wasim Raja, Asif Iqbal, Imran Nazir etc.

Watson in command as Oz battle Watson in command as Oz battle Shane Watson continued his good form from last year to help Australia reduced the deficit against Pakistan even as the hosts lost Hughes and Ponting. Pakistan held a 204-run lead with one wicket in hand at the end of day two of the second Test after a late Australia rally at the SCG. The hosts took seven for 141 in the final session to at least limit the damage after the tourists were 205 for two at one stage. Pakistan, who resumed on Monday on 14 without loss in reply to Australia's meagre 127, reached 331 for nine at stumps with last pair Danish Kaneria (two) and Mohammad Asif (nought) at the crease on what is now a beautiful batting deck. Faisal Iqbal (27) was the first to fall after tea - victim of a wonderful Shane Watson catch. He slashed at a wide delivery from Peter Siddle and Watson, back-pedalling furiously, took a terrific catch at deep point. Skipper Mohammad Yousuf (46) was next to go with the score on 236 - this time Brad Haddin pulling off a brilliant catch. The wicketkeeper stretched high and wide to his right to accept a one-handed snare, giving Mitchell Johnson his second scalp.

Kaneria leaves Pak poised for win Kaneria leaves Pak poised for win Pakistan are closing in on their first Test victory over Australia in 14 years after restricting the hosts to a slender 80-run lead in the second Test with just two wickets in hand. The hosts went to stumps at 286 for eight on day three at the SCG, with Mike Hussey unbeaten on 73 alongside Peter Siddle on 10. The pair have put on 29 for the ninth wicket to give Ricky Ponting's men a glimmer of hope as they look to avoid their first loss to Pakistan since the 1994/95 series. Experienced leg spinner Danish Kaneria (four for 117) did most of the damage removing Marcus North (two), Brad Haddin (15) and Mitchell Johnson (three) after tea as Australia lost five wickets for 87 runs in the final session of the day. Worryingly for Pakistan, Kaneria had to be helped off the field late in the day with severe cramp in his left leg. If the visitors complete their day-four run chase successfully they will level the series at 1-1 heading into the third and final Test in Hobart starting on January 14. Australia were at the crease shortly after the resumption of play having taken just five balls to wrap up the Pakistan innings. With the tourists beginning the day on 331 for nine, Kaneria was the final wicket to fall to Doug Bollinger (four for 72) for the addition of just two runs. That left Australia looking to overhaul a 204-run deficit and they made a promising start with openers Shane Watson and Phillip Hughes taking them to 86 without loss at lunch. Pakistan then hit back, with Watson, Hughes and Ricky Ponting (11) all departing in the middle session. Hughes progressed slowly before consecutive boundaries off Kaneria boosted his confidence. But on 37 he did not quite get to the pitch of a Kaneria delivery and drove in the air to the bowler's left with the leg-spinner snaring a superb one-handed catch. Ponting survived his third straight golden duck in an SCG Test but continued his poor game when he edged Umar Gul to Faisal Iqbal at second slip. Watson was again the pick of the Australian batsmen but was dismissed in the 90s for the third time in his career shortly before tea. Watson fell on 97 gloving a ball from Gul to Iqbal at second slip after he was seemingly cruising to a second consecutive Test century. Unlike his previous dismissals in the 90s, Watson could do little to avoid his latest disappointment after attempting to drop the gloves to a delivery which seamed back at him on a good length. The makeshift opener had been dropped by Kaneria at fine leg off Mohammad Asif when on 18 and made the most of his reprieve. A flurry of boundaries in the afternoon suggested he was not about to suffer the triple-figure wobbles that have afflicted him in the recent past. But Gul cut short what would have a memorable ton on Watson's adopted home ground, the former Queenslander smashing 11 fours and three sixes in his 198-ball stay. The hosts' already slender chances of victory were dealt another major blow after tea when Asif trapped Michael Clarke in front of his stumps for 21 in the sixth over of the session. Things could have been worse two deliveries later when Hussey edged a teasing delivery from Kaneria to Kamran Akmal, who grassed the regulation chance. Kaneria was soon rewarded for his efforts when he removed North caught at short-leg for two to leave the hosts five down and leading by just 20 runs. He continued to wreak havoc removing Haddin and first-innings saviour Johnson in quick succession to expose Australia's tail late in the day. Nathan Hauritz (four) then joined the procession when he edged Gul to Misbah ul-Haq at second slip. Only twice in 132 years have Australia come back from a bigger deficit to snatch victory. Hussey, who was dropped on 27, 45 and 52, is now the only person standing in the way of an historic Pakistan win heading into day four.

I'll finish off Aussies - Danish Kaneria http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,26558160-5018870,00.html Pakistan spin wizard Danish Kaneria says he'll finish off Aussies By Ben Dorries January 06, 2010 Pakistan hero Danish Kaneria has taunted Australia's battered batsmen by telling them to go away and study videos of his spin wizardry. And the flamboyant leg-spinner promised to go "bang-bang" on Wednesday and polish off the last two wickets of an Australian side that is in emergency damage control. After taking 4-117 to leave Australia at 8-286 and with just a slender 80-run lead, the spinner with the deadly googly said Australia's batsmen should go back to the drawing board before next week's final Test in Hobart. :cantstop: He doesn't believe they can pick his variations - and he celebrated cleaning up Mitchell Johnson with a wrong'un by dashing around the SCG in a spectacular aeroplane celebration. "They have a few more days to look at my videos," Kaneria said. "Let's see what they do, but maybe I will do something different, too. The most pleasure was getting Mitchell Johnson with the wrong'un. "I made a plan . . . it was my time." Only Mike Hussey, unbeaten on 73 after being dropped three times by wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal off Kaneria, offers any hope of a miracle for Australia. Without one, Pakistan will square the three-Test series.
