As Graham Gooch, one of England’s greatest openers and a mean striker of a cricket ball himself said: “I’d pay to watch him bat,†and Gooch has seen four decades of cricket for free. His aggressive approach has revolutionised the opener’s role. Instead of caution and occupation of the crease as a means of removing the new ball’s shine, Sehwag hits it against abrasive objects beyond the boundary, as hard and as often as possible. He should be much better known than he is, even in India, and would be but for the monopoly of Tendulkar, his friend and rival. He once said that the only difference between them was the bank balance. Yet, for those who like their heroes to tread the high wire and overreach themselves, Sehwag has been, by far, the more enriching.
Heard Robert Key ( a former England opener who played against us in teh 2002 test series in England ) say on Skysports, that Sehwag was the greatest bastman ever. Greatest of all times , he repeated more than 2 times.

read the article vair naice but...

Sehwag, now 31, is nondescript, a short, balding, roly-poly man, who could be running a Delhi shoe shop
what the hell was that?

I think he truely is - because of the way he has transformed batting style in test cricket; also the fear he instills into the bowlers. I would rank him above SRT as a test batsman due to his humongous innings. Majority of people will argue about his consistency and his compactness. SRT is the most complete batsman that we have seen and that may remain true for our lifetime and Viru does not possess that beauty/complete skill; but he sure knows how to use his skill set to unsettle the opposition. Also, in ODIs, none comes near SRT as the greatest batsman.

Was it Robert Key or Ian Blackwell who just went on about how Sehwag is the greatest, better than Bradman.

Was it Robert Key or Ian Blackwell who just went on about how Sehwag is the greatest' date=' better than Bradman.[/quote'] Robert Key. He said Sehwag would have slaughtered everyone from Lillee & Thommo or the WI pace battery. He was asked a couple of times if Sehwag was better than Bradman, to which he replied in the affirmative. The way Veeru made McWarne look pedestrian in Chennai and his treatment of Murali , Akhtar,,etc. One would have to agree entirely with that one.

Is this the new in thing?? These days every maaja saaja is coming up with his best XI and players of the decade :giggle:
Why do you have to invariably put a wrench in anything where an Indian player is being praised by anyone?

Derek Pringle is no 'Maaja Saaja' like Sarfraz Nawaz or for that matter most of the paki former players.but if he had chosen Mo Yo, probably u wont be crying sour grapes..! you would have been shouting from the roof tops and may have creamed your pants . by the way has there been any pakistani batsmen comparable with Sehwag as per Derek Pringle's parameters ever?

Great compliments from Pringle & Key. Sehwag definitely has raised his stakes for such claims, the way he has played his cricket in the last two years

honestly speaking he is not the greatest player of the decade .. he has become a bit consistent only in recent years and previously he was not that consistent .. he is an awesome player but surely not the greatest
