The Bulls desperately need to win the match in order to keep their hopes alive in the tournament. They have been unlucky with two defeats in as many as games. So, they will be looking at star batsman Symonds to perform. Symonds has looked uncomfortable in the middle so far and has chipped in with 16 and 27 runs down the order. Preparation ahead of Friday's match: In the first game we were couple of runs short. And in the second match we did not field well. So we never gave ourselves a chance to win that game. It is the sudden death for us now, which sometimes is not a bad thing. Sometimes you put your best foot forward when you are under that sort of pressure. We are going to do that tomorrow (Friday) night. Or, we are gone. Wicket at the Gabba: The curator is very good to us. It is a high flow kind of wicket and we will have to master that up with skills. Then we can win this game and keep moving in the competition. On Bulls outing in the Big Bash: It was pretty important for us to win that first game (against the Victorians). That sort of a game takes off a bit pressure off you and gets the momentum going. Now we got to build our own momentum and be business-like in the way we go about our cricket. On his game: I've been enjoying it. I've been doing more batting this week and been feeling more in touch. Hopefully, tomorrow we can convert some of this practice into a victory song.

Bulls and Tigers in tough battle Bulls and Tigers in tough battle The Queensland Bulls find themselves in a do-or-die situation as they take on the Tasmanian Tigers at the Gabba on Friday. The Bulls desperately need to win the match in order to keep their hopes alive in the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash. They have been unlucky with two defeats in as many as games. They were unfortunate to lose their opener against the Victorian Bushrangers by three runs (D/L) and in their second outing, their 156 total was easily chased down by the Southern Redbacks with an over to spare. Though they have shown glimpses of their batting and bowling brilliance, their fielding has cost them matches. As the Bulls continue to wait for overseas player Daniel Vettori, who is scheduled to play in on January 13, they will be looking at star batsman Andrew Symonds to perform. Symonds has looked uncomfortable in the middle so far and has chipped in with 16 and 27 runs down the order. One player who has looked in form for the Bulls is opener James Hopes. Hopes has scored 85 runs from the two matches at a strike rate of 140. He has complimented his batting with picking up crucial wickets. Medium-pacer Ryan Harris has picked up early wickets and eased the pressure off fast bowlers Nathan Rimmington, Ben Cutting and Ben Laughlin. They will be most likely joined by left-arm fast bowler Scott Walter, who is all set to make his Big Bash debut. Another new face in the Bulls is the19-year-old, Chris Lynn who has replaced Alister McDermott after the latter was included in Australia's Under-19 World Cup sqaud. McDermott will giving a miss to the rest of the season in order to prepare for the World Cup. The Bulls need to be aware of Tasmanian overseas import Rana Naved-ul-Hasan. The Pakistan fast bowler has been sensational in the tournament. He hit 47 off 27 balls against the Western Warriors and also picked up three for 29. His good reflexes sent back Mitchell Marsh thanks a to superb run out. Naved-ul-Hasan has been well supported by Travis Birt, who notched up 54 off 42 balls against the Warriors. However, the Tigers too have had their share of injuries and replacements. Captain George Bailey has been ruled out of Friday’s encounter due to an elbow infection sustained due to abrasion. Wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Paine will shoulder the extra responsibility and lead will lead the Tigers. He will be helped by senior opening batsman Michael Dighton who is most likely to play against the Bulls. Also making his debut is left-handed batsman John Rogers. Fast bowler Brett Geeves and offspinner Jason Krejza will look to restrict the Bulls batting line-up. Friday’s match will see lot of sparks flying around as the two teams would like to rise from their current standing in the points table.

The West Indies skipper sustained a side strain during the Warriors’ opening match against the Southern Redbacks in the KFC Twenty20 BigBash. He sat out of the team’s last two games and a decision will be taken on his participation only Sunday morning. The 30-year-old has said that the injury should have ruled him out for at least two weeks but the southpaw is working against time to be fit for Sunday’s game. Gayle revealed he had a scan and suggested there could be either a strain or a fracture.

The Warriors have registered only one win from their previous three outings, while the Bushrangers have lost only one. The Warriors humbled defending champions New South Wales Blues by 127 runs – the biggest win in the KFC Twenty20 BigBash and are high on confidence. Thanks to an unbeaten 108 from just 58 balls by opener Shaun Marsh, the Warriors now sit pretty at the third spot on the points tally. The southpaw was well supported by Wes Robinson, who came in for Chris Gayle, and scored a cautious 54 from 55 balls. The West Indian captain, who sat in the Warriors’ dug-out, is likely to miss Sunday’s encounter as well. Gayle has not recovered from the side strain sustained during the Warriors’ opening match against the Southern Redbacks. According to reports, Gayle tore a muscle in the side during the course of his aggressive 44 against the Redbacks bowlers and at least requires two weeks to fully recover. Marsh, Robinson and Luke Ronchi made up for the missing star. The Warriors will once again be looking at the trio to give them a good start at the top of the order. Marsh’s brother, Mitchell Marsh, joined the party with the ball and the youngster picked up four wickets for six runs in his 2.2 overs. However, the medium-pacer will be missing from the scene as he was included in the Australian Under-19 World Cup squad. With fast bowler Brad Knowles, Nathan Coulter-Nile and off-spinner Aaron Heal making up the Warriors bowling attack, the hosts have to a lot to look forward to and go in Sunday’s match as favourites. The Victorians, who are placed at the second spot in the standings, were earlier thrashed by the Redbacks. They were on the wrong side of a 91-run defeat as the two teams fought for the top-of-the-table spot. Dwayne Bravo may not have had a great run in Australia so far but he is due big time. With David Hussey, Brad Hodge, Aaron Finch and Cameron White for company, Windies all-rounder will pack some punch. The Victorians’ line-up is capable of tearing apart any bowling attack. However, their bowling department will miss Clint McKay, who was called for the Australian Test squad. Bravo, who has had a lukewarm season so far, is confident of a win against the Warriors and will be looking to secure the Victorians a berth in the final two spots.

Knowles steers Warriors to win Knowles steers Warriors to win The Western Warriors jumped to second place on the points table in the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash, after registering a 24-run victory against the Victorian Bushrangers at the WACA. After setting a target of 153 runs, the Warriors were led to their second straight victory thanks to superb bowling performances from Brad Knowles, Aaron Heal and Ashley Noffke, which restricted the Victorians to 128 for eight in their 20 overs. The dangerous openers Matthew Wade and Brad Hodge did not quite provide the start the Victorians hoped for. Fast bowler Knowles bowled Wade out for only six runs in the second over, while Hodge was caught by Luke Pomersbach off a delivery from Noffke. With two wickets down for 24 runs, the Victorians were in an uncomfortable position. Captain Cameron White tried to steady the innings, however, he fell to a brilliant offspinner from Heal for 31. At 70 for three, with David Hussey and Andrew McDonald in the middle, the Victorians were still hopeful of reaching the target. However, Noffke struck again to pick up Hussey for 18 in the 13th over. It’s all about numbers Victorian overseas player, Dwayne Bravo, who has had a lukewarm tournament, did not provide any fireworks and was sent back by Heal for just seven runs, three overs later. Aaron Finch (14), who hit a noticeable 48 against the Southern Redbacks in their last encounter, threw his wicket away while trying to sneak a cheesy run. McDonald then took upon himself to lead the attack but lack of support from the other side made him crumble under pressure. Theo Doropoulos caught him for 32 runs in the last over off a delivery from Knowles. Knowles finished the day with three wickets for 20 runs, while Heal and Noffke scapled two each. Top Performer: Ashley Noffke Earlier, the Warriors won the toss and elected to bat. Shaun Marsh and Wes Robinson, who had a 168-run opening stand against the New South Wales Blues, seemed in a punishing mood. They notched up a 57-run partnership before John Hastings got Robinson out in the seventh over for 34 runs. Marsh fell shortly, contributing 19 runs from 25 balls. Luke Ronchi, who was accompanied by Pomersbach at the end after captain Adam Voges departed for eight runs, looked in no mood to relent. He looked dangerous with his 31 but fell to Dirk Nannes’ tactics of changing pace. Ronchi stepped across outside off and Nannes sent in a quicker delivery and had the stumps clattering. An over later, Pomersbach too was bowled too by Nannes for 32 runs. Doropoulos and Noffke chipped in with 22 runs down the order to take Warriors total past 150.
