Does the ICC have anything planned to counter dew during the WC

Recommended Posts

There is going to be dew in almost all venues in February-March in India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. This is not a whine about today's match - I didn't watch it and couldn't care less about this masala ODI series and admittedly our bowling is a pile of rubbish most of the time during the past year. It would be criminal for a knockout WC match to be decided on the basis of the toss and dew. I think it's going to be a major factor in ensuring fair play and success of the World Cup - early start, even day matches, some magic spray/chemicals, something! For the knock out games - only 7 - there is going to be a good audience regardless of the time of the match.

Looking at the list of Indian venues which will host the matches, I dont think there will be too much of dew in late Feb/Mar.The only two venues which may see some dew are Mohali and Delhi. Dew shouldn't cause much of a problem at Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata with winter in those parts over and summer setting in. Similarly venues in Lanka haven't seen much of a dew related issue in matches played there around that time (series against us in late Jan 2009). Not so sure about the venues in BD. But just to be on the safer side, starting the matches an hour earlier (say at 1.30 pm with the match ending by 9.15 in the evening) would be very sensible, unless there are any practical difficulties.

the best idea is to start game at 12.00 PM. So we have best of both.
Absolutely! Organizers need not worry about the crowd, they will be queueing to get in to the stadium from 5 am onwards. Starting the matches early ensures 'toss' doesn't play a major role and a fair contest between bat and ball settles the issue. After the 2007 WC fiasco, ICC would do well to look in to this seriously!
