Virat Kohli is the man!

Virat, Well done on another great performance. Came into a pressure situation. Unlike our classmate Rohit and Umar Akmal you showed grace under fire. Patient. Hit the bat ball and silly shots. Just a little cramp away from a century. They could learn a lot!:haha:

Kohli has already proved at lower levels he is very good while chasing. Perfect foil for Dhoni and Yuvi. If only we have a strong hitter down the order complement these three that would be perfect.

now what is this, yaar make a thread and praise him, and am sure every single one on icf will praise him but for that do you need to have umar akmal in your title. isit because without him the thread wont get as many views as it will with him.:icflove:

He is quickly proving that he belongs in the national team. We need players whom we can depend on more often than not and he surely is setting himself up to be one for the future.

Good temperament under pressure and a definite touch of class in his batting as well. That innings in the Champions Trophy against some express West Indian bowlers (granted they were not brilliant but on the day were bowling extremely well) on a tough wicket showed what he can do, and he has followed it up with some consistent performances. This is what the team was expecting from Rohit Sharma yet never got, giving him series after series to fail in. Kohli has grabbed his opportunities well.

He did well during India A. He did well against Australian side. He came through the ranks. Badrinath has also done everything like him. But Kohli grabbed the opportunity with both hands. What an opportunity missed by BCCI. They could have sent so many talents to this tri series.

Even after being a blind supporter of Bangladesh, I still find it hard to believe that you are comparing Kohlis innings against Bangladesh ODI bowling attack with Umars innings against Australian test bowling attack.....just no comparison dude... Also Umar is a better batsmen than kohli (just my views)

Kohli just belted Brett Lee led attack in India to score a 100 when they toured here. It was a tour game though. He also did score 100s in Emerging player series tournament in Australia. He was the top run getter for the series. India beat Australia in Final. Kohli doesn't play for India because he doesn't have a spot. He would comfortably walk into lot of teams.

He did well against SL too recently.

dr_tooley, Virat Kohli is a good find for us, and hopefully he will go on to get lot more success. But, can you pls. not drag Pak players needlessly and by doing that you are only cheapening VK's contribution today? (maybe you did do it on purpose for the thread to create a controversy!?)

dr_tooley is a tool. What could have been a nice discussion on Kohli will descend into the usual India Pakistan garbage.

Spot on, a great example of someone who has risen through the ranks. The way he has performed under pressure is most impressive, and he is a really good player to watch, some of his driving is just superb.

I sincerely think it is worth stating that Umar is an average player in a aweful side. Virat by constrast has to get into and stand out fromt he best batting line-up in the world. Allowing Akmal to get away with only being compared to the collection of mediocrity in his own team overstates his achieves. Thus this new need to be compared to each other. As you see such comparison only serves to magnify Virat's fine qualities. :omg:

Damn Rohit should learn from him. When he came on to the scene with his brilliant 50 against SA in T20, 65 in Australia CB final, 50 against Lanka in Australia he was simply sublime. Even just before T20 he was exhilirating to watch. If only he lives upto his potential that would be great. His fielding definitely makes lot of difference.

Sir I'm not sure I can equal your lyrical eloquence. However I would suggest sticking to topics raised rather than adopting an Ad Hominem.

tooley, You are comparing ODIs in subcontinent to Tests against OZ in OZ. Just let it go. Like f.b.m. says do all the comparisons after VK plays away Test knocks. For now, just stick to VK appreciation.

What exactly has he done in Oz? As I remember he has score no centuries not even any ninties in Oz. He has got out a number of times to fairly unimpressive bowling. I think you are confusing his performance in NZ against a fairly mediocre attack with his performance against Oz. All I'm saying is the obvious; that had any of the Paki team got decent score no-one would have noted Umar's innings. However as the rest of the team aren't good enough to play Test cricket, his scores of 40 make him look like Bradman. Oh and comparing him to Sachin? Sachin score two centuries against a much attack on worse pitches. The plain fact is Umar could not get into the current Indian line. Indeed we have many players who are much better than him who can't even get into the side. Virat not only has but as shone. :two_thumbs_up:

Umar Akmal scored a 50 in the 4th innings with the test on the line. Not exactly crappy performance. And like others have said, comparing ODI performance of one player and test performance of another (doesn't matter who the players are) is about as useless as it gets.
