This is a triseries involving Sri Lanka along with SA and India. The opening match was played on sunday between SL and SA, the scorecard of which is: Here Looks like this match was not different from the India-SA youth ODI yesterday. SA under-19 side thrash Sri Lanka December 29, 2009 Edition 1 THE South Africa under-19 side showed signs of the force they can be when they beat Sri Lanka under-19 by four wickets at the Wanderers yesterday. Needing five runs off the final over, Malcolm Nofal wafted a six to end the match in style, and to give the young squad victory in the opening match of the under-19 Tri-Series, also involving the India under-19 side. The winning target of 258 runs was the second highest run-chase yet for the South African under-19 side with the highest having been 270 against England in 2003. With the required run-rate hovering just above the five an over mark, captain Josh Richards (59) and Dominic Hendricks (66) put the hosts in a good position after the opening 25 overs with a 119-run opening partnership. Cody Chetty was the anchor in the middle order, and starred in three vital partnerships with Colin Ackerman (22), Jerry Nqolo (15) and Kirk Wernars (16). Chetty scored 48 runs off only 45 balls, and helped to pull South Africa out of the danger zone in the latter part of the innings, with only 17 runs needed when he departed in the 47th over. Sri Lanka would have been satisfied with their total after Man of the Match Danushka Gunathilleke smashed 70 off 50 balls to propel them to 257/8 in their allotted 50 overs. Udara Jayasundera was also among the runs with 60 after Richards won the toss and elected to field first. - Sapa ----------------------------------- I think everyone can read the CI bulletin. Hence, I'll try to post report of Ind-SA match from another source. Looks like it hasn't come out as yet.

The report of India-SA is here Ackermann stars as India upset hosts India U19 beat South Africa U19 by 18 runs at Bidvest Wanderers Stadium on Monday despite a brilliant century from Eastern Province batsman Colin Ackermann. Ackermann scored 129 not out, as South Africa failed to chase down the required 269 for victory. His century came off 113 balls and was beautifully crafted under tight bowling from India’s spin attack. 20091228colinackermann.jpg Despite a superb all-round performance from India, it was Ackermanns knock that stole the show. He came in to bat in the 14th over and toiled and manoeuvred past testing deliveries, his grit and determination showing the class maturity of a rising 18 year old talent. Wickets kept falling around him regularly, but Ackermann went about his innings with tactful shot selection along with alert running between the wickets. India’s spin trio of Manan Sharma (2/32), Gaurav Jathar (2/56) and Ashok Meenaria (1/25) operated like a smooth running machine and took the match away from the hosts in the middle of the innings, with boundaries scarce and singles not enough. India’s dominance was evident early on in their defence, score comparisons after 30 overs showed that India were 155/1 while South Africa were struggling at 108/5. The Grey PE scholar put in a defiant effort towards the end, hitting 10 out his total of 14 boundaries, with South Africa needing 15 to the over in the last five overs. His late flurry together with Bokang Mosena (27) gave the locals hope of a victory that had almost faded, but they ended agonisingly close, 18 runs off the pace. Ackers, as he is known, batted for more than two hours, hitting 12 four and two sixes and was deservedly named as the man of the match. Earlier on, South Africa’s bowlers once again gave off more than 250 runs after Lokesh Rahul (77) and Mayank Argawal (43) got the tourists off to a speedy start. The opening pair put on 81 runs in 14 overs before Stephan Smith got the breakthrough with Argawal caught in the deep but that still didn’t peg India back with Rahul and Madeep Singh continuing with the free scoring. The drinks breaks brought success for South Africa, with Stephan Smith breaking the ominous looking partnership of 81 between Rahul and Singh, with the first delivery after the break. Smith finished with figures of 4/50 with the rest of the attack proving expensive. The bowlers were punished early on in the innings and pulled back well to restrict India in the latter part of the innings, who resorted to extravagant and risky strokeplay in an effort to post a challenging total. Three changes were made to the South African XI, David White, Simon Khomari and Rabian Engelbrecht made their debuts. India’s victory keeps the series evenly poised after two exciting matches that have shown the vibrancy of the World’s most promising talents. Tomorrow is a rest day, with India taking on Sri Lanka at King Edward school on Wednesday. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ We have another India-SL match. If India wins this, they'll qualify for final.

Ashok Meenaria leads India to second win while Lankans suffer second defeat December 30, 2009 India Under-19 237 for 9 (Meenaria 69, Harpreet 67) beat Sri Lanka Under-19 192 (Buddika 31, Meenaria 3-23) by 45 runs An all-round performance by captain Ashok Meenaria ensured India sailed through to their second consecutive win in the Tri-Nation Under-19s Tournament at the King Edward VII School Ground in Johannesburg. Meenaria top scored with 69 to take India to 237 and later chipped in with three late wickets to keep Sri Lanka to 192. The Lankan youngsters were beaten by 45 runs by the Indian counterparts in the third match of the tournament played at the King Edward VIII school grounds in Johannesburg. India on the other hand went on to secure their second straight win having defeated hosts South Africa in earlier on.. After opting to bowl, Sri Lanka's Kasun Madushanka removed the openers before they could settle in and the Indians soon found themselves at 51 for 3, in need of a solid stand. That came in the form of a 100-run partnership between Meenaria and Harpreet Singh, who made his U-19 debut. The pair batted for nearly 21 overs and managed a respectable run-rate of 4.72 during their stand. They were separated when Meenaria was dismissed by offspinner Rumesh Buddika. Harpreet added another 40 with Manan Sharma before he was stumped for 67. The Indians just managed to bat out their 50 overs, losing nine wickets in the process. Sri Lanka chasing 238 runs for victory were no where near the target and were struggling at the halfway stage with the score on 90 for 3. Rumesh Buddika and Kithruwan Withanage’s rescue act ended after the pair had added a valuable 51 runs for the fourth wicket. The dismissal of the duo saw the Lankans losing wickets at regular intervals. The Sri Lankans failed to mount that target because they couldn't stitch together substantial partnerships. The top order made starts but failed to carry on, save for the only half-century stand in the innings - the 51 for the fourth wicket between Kithuruwan Vithanage and Buddika. The Sri Lankans couldn't recover after they lost half their side at 137 in the 37th over. Meenaria then took three lower-order wickets to top a very satisfying day in the field. The Sri Lankans have two more matches to play and will have to win both if they are to be in contention. The Lankans face hosts South Africa, who beat them in a high scoring first encounter, today at the New Wanderers in Johannesburg. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After this match SL U-19 played with SA U-19 yesterday and thrashed them by 148 runs. Here is the report: Sri Lanka youths hammer South Africa by 148 runs at Wanderers Scorecard Magnificent batting by Rumesh Buddika and Akshu Fernando supported by right arm pacie Bhanuka Rajapakse helped steer the Sri Lanka under 19 team to an emphatic 148 run win over the hosts South Africa in the fourth match of the tri nation cricket tournament played at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg yesterday. This was the first win for the Lankan youth after suffering two successive defeats. It was sweet revenge for the Asian nation who were earlier unfortunate to lose in a high scoring match against the same opponents. The foundation for the win was laid by left handed Rumesh Buddika and right handed Akshu Fernando. Peterite Akshu slammed a 59 ball knock of 51. Rumesh continued the prolific run cracking 139 off just 137 balls which included 18 boundaries. The pair came to the rescue of the side when they were struggling at 82 for 4 in the 15th over. Aggressive accumulation of runs put the Lankans on a solid footing before the partnership was brought to an end with the dismissal of Akshu. However Rumesh followed it up with another valuable 45 run stand for the sixth wicket with Dhanushka Gunatileke. The home team in their run chase was given a flying start by the openers Dominic Hendricks and skipper Josh Richards who together put on 53 runs before Lankan skipper Chathura Peiris dealt a double blow by dismissing the duo in his sixth over. The South Africans never recovered from the setback as right arm pacie Bhanuka Rajapakse who failed with the bat made amends by exposing the South African batting vulnerabilities. Bhanuka at a crucial juncture grabbed two quick wickets as South Africa slid to 90 for 7. A partnership of 42 runs for the ninth wicket between Cody Chetty and Simon Khomari only denied an early win for Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka who have now put themselves in contention with this big win will next confront India in a game scheduled to be played tomorrow. Sri Lanka under 19 283 in 48.1 overs (Rumesh Buddika 139, Akshu Fernando 51, Dhanushka Gunatileke 25, Kithruwan Withanage 24: Kirk Wernars 4 for 42, Sammy Mo***eng 2 for 29) South Africa Under 19 135 in 32.3 overs (Dominic Hendricks 23, Josh Richards 23, Simon Khomari 17, Cody Chetty 27 n.o.: Bhanuka Rajapakse 6 for 29, Chathura Peiris 2 for 32) -------------------------------------------------- Now India has to win the next match to secure its place in final.

Indian team reaches the final of the triseries. Here is the report: Pacies Netravalkar and Sharma rout Lankan teens - Under 19 Tri Nation Scorecard The left and right arm pace combination of Saurabh Netravalkar and Sandeep Sharma guided the India Under 19 team to a comprehensive ten wicket win over the Sri Lanka Under 19 in the fifth match of the Under 19 Tri Nation cricket tournament played at St John’s College ground in Johannesburg yesterday. The duo shared eight wickets between them with Netravalkar ending with impressive figures of 5 for 26 in his ten overs while Sharma finishing with a haul of 3 for 22. The decision of opting to field after winning the toss taken by the India under 19 skipper Ashok Menaria spelt doom for the Sri Lanka Under 19 side. It was India’s third successive victory of the tournament. The Indians who are the defending ICC Under 19 world champions have showed that they are the team to watch in the U19 World Cup due to get underway in another two weeks in New Zealand. The Lankans began in an inauspicious way by losing their first wicket in the second over with just one run on the board. They never recovered from that debacle as they lost three more quick wickets in four overs which included three of their top order batsmen. Reeling on 9 for 4 the batsmen following too were unable to make any headway due to some fine bowling between the two pacies. None of the Lankan teenagers were able to come into terms with devastating bowling skills of the duo. At the end of the ninth over the Lankans were in dire straits on 23 for 5. They were made to work hard for their runs and survival, though they plodded for another 17 overs the Lankans were able to make only a pathetic score of just 52. India in their run chase needed just 9.1 overs to reach the target with Mayank Agarwal leading the way with a 32 ball knock of 36 that included four boundaries and a six. Sri Lanka came back into contention after losing two matches at a stretch with a comfortable 148 runs win over hosts South Africa. But now has put themselves in a spot of bother. India with this win is virtually assured of a final berth. The second team in the final will be decided after the last round robin match due to be played between hosts South Africa and India today.
