fineleg Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 He did bowl at good speed and I think for ODI team - he can be included in the squad. Eleventh comeback!
graphic23 Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I wouldn't mind Aggy for our ODI team, actually.
fineleg Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 I wouldn't mind Aggy for our ODI team' date=' actually.[/quote'] Yes. He can field quite well, and bowling cant be worse than our current ODI bowlers. He has pluck to bat decently once in a while (not reliable, but better batting than Nehra or Munaf Patel or Tyagi). Has decent ability for bowling the overs 40-50 as well.
Holysmoke Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 We need to make an aggy smiley just like the grumpy punter one. I suggest this pic...
DomainK Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Really, he can't be worse than what we are currently. He should have been tested in this BD series.
The Outsider Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Please! The guy is a proven failure - not over 1-2 years but over an entire decade. He just doesn't have the bottle and character in him to play international cricket. He'll come back, do well in run of the mill ODIs, build up his statistics and when it will come down to that crunch over or moment of the match he'll bowl long hops and full tosses. Have a good future in IPL and domestic cricket, TAV, but please keep him away from the national team.

Possible, but what do any of our other medium pacers (Ishant, Praveen etc) do in crunch time/slog overs? AA's strength over the other medium pacers is his decent pace, good fielding and ability to bat better than Ishant, Munaf, Praveen, Nehra. His bowling is as bad as any other. I would love to hear better options than Irfan Pathan and Agarkar for our bowling (+fielding/batting balanced combo of our ODI unit). I was hoping RP Singh would stand out, but he fizzled as well. Hopefully Tyagi will do well.
jusarrived Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 am a huge Agarkar fan the reason he been ignored is cos hes supposed to be expensive , but our selectors dont realize that so are all bowlers these days ...difference is , Agarkar picks up wickets as well ! anyways I think we should be resting our test bwolers Zaheer , sree and Ishant frequently!
Sachinism Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 He can't bowl any worse than the current batch and he seems to be in good form, I think there are improvements with his batting, don't see why he can't play again

jusarrived Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 His record , is actually very impressive ! 191(mths) 288(wkts) 6/42 (best) 27.85(avg) 5.07 (eco) 32.9 (SR)
The Outsider Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 You can't keep on adopting selection procedures where old garbage keeps on getting recycled. It's no different from what Pakistan do in their batting - keep on playing revolving chair amongst useless cricketers like Misbah, Malik, Faisal, Butt, Farhat etc. etc. All our top 5-6 bowlers have done well on a number of occasions. They are out of form, might have technical problems, loss of rhythm whatever. The aim should be to rectify those shortcomings and bring them up to scratch again, not push in someone who has shown himself to be a mental mess anytime the pressure is on and is most likely to lose you a match in a close and pressure contest.
sm332 Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I dont see how a career with close to 300 ODI wickets is considered garbage ... but what do I know?
The Outsider Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Alright, throw on the stats, bring him back in, and the next time there are 15 required off the last 2 overs and TAV gets the ball delivers and full toss and a long hop to finish the game off curse him! He would still end up with decent stats! If all those averages and wickets and stats were the only thing to look at why do you think he has been dropped from the team so many times?

sm332 Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I dont get it .. the pt is to get wickets ... you will get hit around occasionally but can you win games for the team occasionally. I dont see any of our current quicks winning us games in unhelpful conditions.
The Outsider Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Alright, then how about wait for TAV to bowl on the pattas in the Ranji one day leg and the IPL? And it's not that he had some earth shattering Ranji season either. Picked up 19 wickets in 9 matches @ 35 and got a juiced up track in the final which is having everyone excited. What about Mithun who picked up 46 wicket in 9 matches @ 23. Or even Irfan Pathan with 22 wickets in 5 matches @ 18? What is the basis of picking TAV?
The Outsider Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 http://stats.cricinfo.com/ranjisuperleague2009/engine/records/bowling/most_wickets_career.html?id=5192;type=tournament There are no less than 23 bowlers who picked up more wickets during this season than TAV
