Ganapathy is a utility cricketer. He can get into the mid 120s with his pace and actually can utilize the new ball somewhat effectively in good conditions. Plus he is a decent bat increasing his utility value. All in all a good domestic prospect. May not be of international quality. He is certainly no trundler. I have seen him bowl mean bouncers even on docile Chennai tracks. Plus he moves the ball both ways apart from being able to use the older ball reasonably well too.
thanks.u think he can play ODIs as an allrounder?

No, Lord, I dont think he fits the bill at the international level. He is less of an attacking bat than say Praveen Kumar and just a touch slower than Praveen on average. In any case, I would say we really ought to look at bringing Pathan back to form with some really concentrated attention from our bowling coach. He is a dream allrounder. India should not give up on him too soon. ________ LIVE SEX

Doesn't it reveal the seam bowling stocks of your zone when you have to include a utility player even in Ranji squad as your third seamer of the zonal squad? How can you reward a bowler who was not even in top 15 of wicket takers in Ranji trophy? This is a FC match and not a damn List A, for heavens sake!!

South vs Central : Stage set for an interesting contest The South Zone bowlers, led by Tamil Nadu off-spinner R. Ashwin’s six-wicket haul, set up the contest by skittling Central Zone out for 252. More... Stage set for an interesting contest Vijay Lokapally INDORE: The intensity of quality cricket was evident at the Maharani Usha Raje cricket stadium here on Thursday. The South Zone bowlers, led by Tamil Nadu off-spinner R. Ashwin’s six-wicket haul, set up the contest by skittling Central Zone out for 252. The target for South Zone was 291 and it finished the day at 57 for one. By adding 41 runs on Thursday morning the South Zone tail sent a strong message to the opposition. Nothing was lost for the team even as Mohammad Kaif and his men gained a first innings lead of 38 runs. The onus was on the bowlers. R Ashwin spun South Zone back in contention with his sensational six-wicket haul after his side conceded a slender first innings lead to Central Zone on a dramatic Day Three of the Duleep Trophy semi-final, here on Thursday. Resuming the day at 254 for eight, South were all out for 295, conceding a 38-run lead but Ashwin changed the complexion of the game after that. He ran through the middle-order of rivals in their second essay and all Central Zone could manage was 252 on board, setting South a 291-run victory target. South Zone made the most of a shaky batting approach by Central Zone, with the exception of Piyush Chawla, who came up with his second half century of the match. Central Zone came to bat for the second time with a 38-run lead and an open game in front of them on Thursday in the Duleep Trophy semifinal here. Soon they were reduced to 39 for 3 and it appeared they had not learnt from their first innings experience of facing the South Zone attack. R. Vinay Kumar did what comes so consistently to him — getting an early breakthrough. He removed Jalaj Saxena and Sanjay Bangar and left the stage for Abhimanyu Mithun, who induced an uncharacteristically aggressive stroke from Kaif that ended in the hands at covers. Poor shot selection by Tanmay Srivastava brought South back into the game and when a confident Suresh Raina attempted a suicidal coming-down-the-pitch drive the Central Zone batsmen had clearly thrown away the advantage. Raina, 59 off 82 balls with 11 fours and a six, was followed quickly by Parvinder Singh and Naman Ojha as Ashwin struck a nagging line. But, once again, it was Piyush Chawla who came to their rescue and played an intelligent 56-run innings to help Central Zone score 252. He scored his second halfcentury of this match with the help of eight boundaries and a six. Only a spinner knows how to play a fellow spinner and only a tweaker knows how to dismiss his counterpart. Chawla fell prey to R. Ashwin's fast delivery that kept a little low. Chawla was supported by Praveen Kumar who did some pinch-hitting -- 40 off 39 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes -- from the other end. Barring Suresh Raina (59 off 82 balls), no other batsman could stay at the crease. A blistering charge by Praveen Kumar (40, 39b, 4x4, 2x6) and an equally entertaining performance by Piyush Chawla (56, 56b, 8x4, 1x6) gave Central Zone the platform to try and force a win. Openers Jalaj Saxena and one-down batsman Sanjay Bangar failed to deliver yet again. If Central Zone manage to progress from here, they will have to work on these areas. Ashwin was outstanding since he did not wilt under the calculated charge that came from Chawla and Praveen. The responsibility now lies with the batsmen where Abhinav Mukund (11) and Arun Karthik (33 with six fours) have shown the way after Robin Uthappa’s familiar dismissal — getting carried away after three fours in an over. With the South Zone scorecard reading 57 for one at stumps, the match is evenly poised for the final day.

West continues its domination over North Virat Kohli’s bright knock in the first hour of the third day promised much before left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja tamed the North Zone skipper. More... West continues its domination G. Viswanath Rajkot: Pamphlets with black and white photographs of Ravindra Jadeja and Cheteshwar Pujara were scattered across the base of many street lamps on the highway leading up to the Madhavrao Scindia cricket ground. The advertisements seemed to work, as a decent crowd turned up to watch their local heroes on Day Three of the Duleep Trophy semifinal between West Zone and North Zone. Jadeja and Pujara did their bit to keep the onlookers pressed against the boundary mesh for the entire duration of the day. Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for West Zone, scalping three wickets for 54 runs in 21 overs, while also providing entertainment with a bizarre run out of Manpreet Singh Gony. North Zone folded up for 294 all out, giving the home side a lead of 475 runs. Although the crowd would have preferred it if skipper Wasim Jaffer went for the kill by enforcing the follow-on, they were quite satisfied when Pujara opened the innings after Jaffer decided to give his bowlers a rest before the final. By stumps, sparkling drives by Pujara (23 n.o.) and Parthiv Patel (31 n.o.) extended West’s lead to 531 runs, with only Ajinkya Rahane back in the pavilion. Virat Kohli’s bright knock in the first hour of the third day promised much before left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja tamed the North Zone skipper. Resuming the day with his team against the ropes at 36/3, North Zone skipper Virat Kohli and nightwatchman Vikramjeet Malik got things off to a flying start. Involved in a 95-run partnership, Kohli stood tall in the face of adversity with a half-century, but there was a sense of inevitability to the rest of the day’s play once Jadeja dismissed the duo. Bowling his second over, Jadeja turned the ball across the face of the bat to hit the off stump for a flummoxed Kohli to leave the field and virtually bring the contest to an end in the Duleep Trophy semifinal at the Race Course Ground here on Thursday. Malik was the first to go, caught by Pujara off Jadeja in the covers for a brisk 41. Two overs later, Kohli was bowled for 56 after Jadeja got through his defence with extra flight. West held the upper hand once it raised a formidable 769 in the first innings and then dismissed three batsmen on the second evening. For much of the first hour on Thursday Wasim Jaffer operated with left-arm seamer Irfan Pathan and Munaf Patel, scattered men on the off-side hoping that Kohli would make a mistake while essaying firm front-foot drives. Kohli outsmarted his counterpart with a series of cover and straight drives, all off Pathan and Patel and raced to his 50 off 48 balls. His partner Vikramjit Singh Malik, too, cut and square drove hard. With the North score reading 102 for three, Jaffer introduced Jadeja and not off-spinner Ramesh Powar, who would have probably revelled on a surface that would have afforded bounce. Jadeja struck off the first ball when Malik whipped a shot towards mid-wicket for Pujara to convert an easy overhead catch. Seven balls later Kohli departed. The two new batsmen, Mithun Manhas and Rajat Bhatia, struck up a 100-run stand for the sixth wicket before Manhas — one short of his fifty — edged Abhishek Nayar’s wide down the leg-side into Parthiv Patel’s gloves, while Bhatia mistimed a pull on 53 straight back to Jadeja for a return catch. After Kohli’s departure, Mithun Manhas and Rajat Bhatia engaged themselves in trouble-free cricket for a little over two hours each and raised an exact hundred runs for the sixth wicket before Parthiv Patel picked up Manhas’s leg-side deflection with an outstretched left hand. Soon Bhatia miss-hit a shot straight back to Jadeja. Pravinder Awana offered company to Uday Kaul for an hour and 10 minutes before the second new ball claimed in the 81st over saw the North first innings folding up for 294. Rapped on his pads by a Nayar in-cutter, Gony stood fixed a metre outside his crease, waiting for the umpires’ decision. While the fielders were busy appealing, gully fielder Jadeja uprooted his middle stump with a direct hit to run him out on 3. The tail wagged for a while, with keeper Uday Kaul and Parvinder Awana notching up a 60-run partnership for the penultimate wicket, but once the new ball was taken, Irfan Pathan performed the clean-up act with two wickets from two overs. Wicketkeepers, normally, are the ones who do the bulk of sledging. But Thursday saw an exception, when some North Zone players, during their Duleep Trophy semifinal against West Zone, tried to unnerve Parthiv Patel by breaking the news of the keeper being ignored for the Test series against South Africa. One of the leading scorers this domestic season, Parthiv was, in all probability, expecting a recall to the Indian team. But the selectors preferred West Bengal wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha. The noise the North Zone players made -- repeatedly and intentionally -- after the team's announcement did not escape Parthiv's ears. That, more or less, summarised the third day of the match. Resuming at 36 for three, North folded up for 294 in reply to West's 769. The hosts were placed at 56 for one when stumps were drawn. The day was divided into two phases -- before and after the Indian team's announcement. Besides Parthiv, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Abhishek Nayar were also in contention and that's why there was a lot of excitement during the first session of play.

Praveen bowls at an average speed of 117 kph. Are you saying Ganapathy is slower than that? Is that even possible? :)

His batting avg in this Ranji season was 77+ with 2 hundreds and an aggregate of 540+ runs. His bowling avg is 24.22. I am sure you will agree that as an all-rounder you cannot question is selection in the zonal squad.

As far as I'm concerned bits and pieces players have no place in a FC squad. Matches are played with able players, not with those who conjure up this kind of stats playing against some other terrible players.

Keep your ignorance to yoyrself. Matches are played with able players' date=' not with those who conjure up this kind of stats playing against some other terrible players. If he is playing as an allrounder, even worse for India as seamers are the ones, who we so dearly need as back-up to our test bowlers. Bits and pieces players can play one dayers not the longer version of the game.[/quote'] 77+ avg is bits and pieces for you? He played a crucial role with the bat and the ball in many matches and was one of the key players for TN in this season. He scored a century against Mumbai who were the eventual champions. I guess the more you comment the merrier it becomes.
