Our cowardly leaders make another meak statement on a 26/11 repeat.

To each his own opinion.Kandahar was a failure of the whole govt, not just the foreign ministry. I know you purposely choose to be disingenuous about this, but Jaswant Singh went to Kandahar to get the 160+ Indian hostages back safely, not to escort the terrorists. At least he can be credited with restoring normalcy in ties with USA after the Pokhran tests. In 1998 we did the nuke tests and within two years Bill Clinton was dancing in Rajasthan. Our current PM had predicted dire consequences of the economic sanctions back then, but was proved wrong.
Why is it disingenous? Just because it can not be defended? It is not that I have invoked BJP's fiasco regarding Kandahar for the first time. And yes there is no need for a comparison with USA, or Israel, who have a ZERO negotiation policy with terrorist. When BJP was in power it made a mockery of India's security, and even today their supporters, like you, choose to defend it 160+ hostages yada yada.
What has Kandahar got to do with this? It was a national shame, like 26/11 as I have said elsewhere.
And why not? Isnt Masood Azhar one of the most dreaded terrorist in the world? Hafiz Sayeed deserves every bit of punishment but atleast he is NOT in India's control. We did have Masood Azhar tab BJP ne kya ukhaad liya? And if you are sincerely interested in this saga I suggest you check out snippets from world media, including 26/11, when India's capitulation to Kandahar was invoked. Thanks a zillion of course to BJP..Even better that the Home Minister maintained he was not consulted. Fair to say in past 10 years BJP gave us: Worst Indian Foreign Minister Worst Indian Home Minister.
For starters he and his boss SM Krishna can tell us how Tawahhur Rana was issued an Indian visa from Chicago consulate, under the discretionary quota of the consul-general with exemption from reporting to local police stations in India.
Very valid question and I am awaiting an answer on that as well. For now my point, and you can take it for whatever it is worth, that there may be something happening behind the scene here which we are not privy of. But I am with you that Indian citizens need to have definitive answer on this. xxx

Lurker, your entire post about Kandahar is something we have gone over before and I dont see any relevance of it in this thread which is discussing the current foreign minister and his MoS. If you are offended by me calling SM Krishna the worst Foreign minster in 10 years, then that is my opinion and I have given my reasons for it. So let us leave it at that. But I will just correct some factual errors in your previous post.

And yes there is no need for a comparison with USA, or Israel, who have a ZERO negotiation policy with terrorist.
This is incorrect. Israel has regularly negotiated with terrorists for release of its captured soldiers and citizens. A couple of years ago Israel released a convicted terrorist Samir Kuntar, along with 4 other militants in exchange for the dead bodies of 2 Israeli soldiers captured by Hezbollah.
Even better that the Home Minister maintained he was not consulted.
Advani claimed he did not know that Jaswant Singh was accompanying the terrorists. He did not say he was not in the know about the terrorists being released. Although even that claim since has been disputed by others present in the CCS meeting and seems rather dubious now.
Very valid question and I am awaiting an answer on that as well. For now my point, and you can take it for whatever it is worth, that there may be something happening behind the scene here which we are not privy of. But I am with you that Indian citizens need to have definitive answer on this. xxx
Dont hold your breath. Till the Headley-Rana bombshell dropped by the FBI we were belaboring under the ridiculous assumption that there were no local accomplices. Had the GoI been serious about fixing responsibility the consul general who issued the visa would have been investigated already and action taken

I do not see why one has to be so critical of this response. Look at the scenario towards our western border. Pakistan is the key ally in the war on terror & is the main corridor for US supply/logistics in the Afghanistan war. As long as the big daddy USA sticks there, the terrorist scumbags do not have a full on country to train/plan their ambitions, Kashmir included. The US even made our dear neighbor go after the nutjobs .. Is all this bad ? The emphasis of the jehadis changed and its there for all to see, the Pakistan Army and the people of Pakistan became their primary target. No wonder we've done better post 26/11 and they havent. Do we need to provide an excuse to Pakistan to move its troops to the western border ? All it will do is unify the Taliban, the Pakistan Army & the Pakistanis who face far more insurgencies these days. In short, keep it simple .. dont unite ur enemies when they are fighting each other. Even otherwise, if any fool thought we could mess with Pakistan while the US was nearby using Pakistan as an ally, they better get a mental check up done. Our Chief of Army Staff made a big & bold announcement few weeks back that dealt with Pakistan as well as China. I guess that was more than enough for the time being.

Come on Sriram you know you are seriously mistaken about Mr "Patriot". If ever India goes to war this bravest of men will chuck his US H1B, or Green card(if he has been "lucky" to have it) and would move to India and take to the border. There is a good chance that if he is married, and has a kid who might be an American if he/she was born here, he would move back to India in a heartbeat, denounce all his relationships to United States and fight for the pride of Motherland. Alternately of course he can keep raising his BP and cholestrol level and end up in an ER sooner than later. xxx
I love these cases of such online warriors pontificating others on how to live life, when they themselves do anything but what they say..
