TOI report Deccan Chargers have signed Razzaq http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/ipl/top-stories/Chargers-pick-Razzaq-signal-IPL-Pak-thaw/articleshow/5506823.cms

MUMBAI: The Indian Premier League is always full of surprises. After all the fuss over Pakistan being 'excluded' from the 2010 auction comes a soothener: IPL-2 champions Deccan Chargers will be signing up Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, as an injury replacement for IPL-3. Incidentally, Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan had recently said that he was keen on signing Razzaq, but seems to have missed out. Deccan Chargers chairman V Shankar told TOI on Thursday, "One of our (international) players is injured and needs a surgery. Therefore, we needed a replacement and Razzaq fits the bill well because of his all-round abilities. There was never an issue about Pakistan players being deliberately not picked as has been talked about all along." The injured cricketer in the Deccan camp is West Indies fast bowler Fidel Edwards. Chargers did not reveal any further details but the injury to Edwards opened up a slot for an international cricketer, paving the way for Razzaq. However, as of now, Chargers is the only team going ahead and buying a player from across the border.

Deccan Chargers have taken the lead by confirming that they are signing up Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq as replacement for injured West Indies paceman Fidel Edwards. However, among the other seven teams only Mumbai Indians have a vacant slot but they have not decided on any replacement. Among the franchisees, most have either spent their entire purse of $750,000 for the 2010 auction or have no slot left. Deccan, for instance, is a rare side that has $30,000 and a slot left. "Razzaq's reserve price was $50,000 so they cannot buy him with the money they have even if they have a slot left," an IPL official explained. However, Shankar's explanation that Deccan is replacing an injured player is just within the IPL rules. Accordingly, the new player being bought would either have to be paid the same amount that was paid to the player being replaced or less. But there is a twist in the tale. IPL CEO Sundar Raman told TOI on Thursday that as of now "there has been no request from the (Deccan Chargers) team seeking a replacement". "They cannot buy because they don't have enough money left from their purse. If they are seeking a replacement, we're yet to hear about it," he said. Razzaq's signing will be the first indication of the government, BCCI and IPL working overtime to ensure that the allegations of 'India deciding to snub Pak the cricketing way' ends as soon as possible. The only other franchise that has a slot left is Mumbai Indians but they have no money left, having exhausted their $750,000 cap on acquiring West India Kieron Pollard. In any case, the Sachin Tendulkar-led team has never shown any interest in Pakistan cricketers, right from the inaugural year. Among other teams, Kings XI Punjab has no slot left but the team's co-owner Mohit Burman told TOI: "In case there is any need for a replacement, we would be open to all options, including Pakistan players." Chennai Super Kings also have "no slot left" and KKR too spent their one slot on buying Kiwi Shane Bond. Meanwhile, Pakistan has responded positively to indications that there might be a rethink on IPL's snub to its cricketers, with interior minister Rehman Malik saying: "I welcome this statement. I believe all our issues should be resolved as we are neighbouring countries."

Ladies, we missed the key points here-

This means, Razzaq is not a surety and I hope IPL doesn't bend backwards AGAIN for Pakistan coz- First, we gave them an extension in Nov-Dec. Then gave an extension for an extension. When they still failed in the process, we gave them entry to the auctions. And they say we "conspired to insult them". Thankless fools. :finger:

Abdul Razzaq could become the first Pakistani to appear in this season's IPL, with the player saying he had been approached by Kolkata Knight Riders. While a team official said they had not approached the player following last week's auction, Razzaq said he had been offered a contract by the franchise and Sourav Ganguly, the team captain, was quoted by NDTV as saying they had been in touch with him. "A one-year contract with KKR is ready, I have been told, but the IPL's clearance is needed first," Razzaq told Cricinfo. "We have spoken to Razzaq for a very long time, we wanted him in the team but will wait for the IPL rules," Ganguly told NDTV. "The issue of Pakistani players is between the IPL and government. We shall have to wait for the rules." However, a Kolkata official contacted by Cricinfo offered a contrary point of view. "We had talks with him pre-auction and we had some paperwork subject to IPL rules and conditions," the official said. "The IPL included the Pakistani players in the auction list but our first priority then [during the auction] was to go for a fast bowler, so we went for Bond.

Last week:

New Delhi, Jan 19 (PTI)[snubbed all-rounder Abdul Razzaq today accused Indian Premier League of hatching a "conspiracy" against Pakistani players after none of the 11 cricketers from the nation found a buyer in today''s IPL auction in Mumbai. "I think this is a well-hatched conspiracy, which they (IPL) must have planned three-four months ago.

Pakistan aren't playing him' date=' why shouldn't he try and earn for a better life for his family?[/quote'] Who said pak isn’t playing him? He was supposed to play the Australian series, but was ruled out due to injury. Secondly, wasn’t he was the very first one saying, ‘oh this is a conspiracy against us and blah blah’ and then followed by ‘we should all boycott ipl.’ The moment you throw a bone to these idiots they latch on it as if they have never had one….pathetic!
