Gunner_Mania Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Marris - please dont judge the discerning powers of the West and the East. It is all a question of choice. This is like the umpteen number of people who derisively claim that people in the West are more courteous when they stop at a four lane crossing for the other car to go as opposed to India. I say, put all those Americans in a space as jam packed as we are in India and watch what happens. It is a function of numbers. Pure and simple. So, if we had the choice to pick and choose from channels we too would be discerning. We are learning and growing though. Unfortunately down the line we are learning a few bad (arguably) things as well. Like a fondness for reality TV for example :). That doesn't wash. sky Sports in UK is a virtual monopoly when it comes to broadcasting cricket & premier league football in UK, unlike India where there is a plethora of channels to watch sports - ESS, Neo, Ten, Zee Sports etc. There is competition, but our standards have only fallen. There is hardly any competition here, but standards have improved. There is constant innovation here in broadcasting, there is contsant innovation in India on how and where to place more ads. Even Doordarshan when it had its monopoly did not place 40% of screen with ads. All these innovation came when the choice for the consumer increased. One difference though could be regulation, if people did not like someting that was broadcast they will go and complian to Ofcom, the regulators and action would be taken. In India it will not happen. In most country Pay channel, means premium content with no or reduced ads. India is the only country where pay channel & FTA have the same number of ads, yet we pay for the channel. It's like having your cake and eating it too.
CG Posted February 21, 2010 Author Posted February 21, 2010 F U Neosports Now they are showing match between ads, guys let them know in their twitter and forums how bad these suckers are
maggot_brain Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 If I was paying for this I'd complain A LOT. It's atrocious. Adverts every 30 seconds
Karan114 Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 There were at least a couple of instances in the Test series I can remember of an appeal being made for lbw, the umpire's fingers going up and then an ad immediately. Even by our broadcasting standards in cricket, these guys are ridiculous.
ViruRulez Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 it has been pathetic coverage today.. they are placing ads again and again even during the overs sometimes
diegovegaz Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 not only between overs, in overs, they show the ads by decreasing the size of the telecast window, and squeeze them in the bottom
Gunner_Mania Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 You can sue them over this. in India? Wow. I would like to see that one.
DomainK Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 in India? Wow. I would like to see that one. Yes, it has been done before. I remember some NGO had sued DD (public interest litigation) over this and the court had ordered DD not to show ads that eat into overs. In those days kids used to think that an over consisted of 4 deliveries as DD always missed first and the last balls. So many times they would come back from the break to show players celebrating a wicket and then would immediately go back to a break since no cricket is going on. So you would know that wicket fell, but would not know who fell and who took him. It was so frustrating. Yes, showing a cricket match is not a favor the channels are doing on us. They are earning food money for this. You can sue them for intentional/avoidable bad services.
Texan Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 While awarding TV rights, BCCI should start taking into consideration the quality of the channel.
Prudent Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Absolute crappy coverage!! Yu can send feedback to their twitter account. http://twitter.com/NEO_Cricket
Sachinism Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 While awarding TV rights' date=' BCCI should start taking into consideration the quality of the channel.[/quote'] When signing contracts the only thing BCCI take into consideration is the numbers on the cheque. In a way you can't blame the broadcaster for trying to recover the costs paid out to BCCI.
Sachinism Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Absolute crappy coverage!! Yu can send feedback to their twitter account. http://twitter.com/NEO_Cricket msgd :two_thumbs_up:
Gambit Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Switch to DD. Much better w.r.t ads(hard to believe I know!).
Desi Cartman Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 I was still ok with too many ads during the extended breaks but this new screen squeezing technology is pissing me off .. Bastards squeeze the screen n then dont expand it till after the ball is released ..
Gunner_Mania Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 sky Sports is BLISS!! not to mention expensive
Prudent Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 What is NEO Cricket? - A 24 hour channel for TV Commercials, which has sold a few spots to BCCI to show 'cricket'. http://twitter.com/chin80/status/9433396103
