India is now believed to be going in for talks with a positive and an open mind. All relevant issues including counter terrorism and other issues that could create an atmosphere of peace and stability between the two countries will be discussed by India. I saw it on NDTV , BTW ALL ISSUES can be discussed ( maybe including Kashmir) What can I say except that We haz been PwNeD

Nothing will happen ....

EnterTheVoid Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 A change of strategy maybe, we can't continue to keep giving them the cold shoulder, at some stage we need to talk to settle our differences. Whether these talks result in anything meaningful, thats up for debate. Time will be the judge of that.

At the very least it gives you a diplomatic leverage with other countries. Would you much rather have rest of the world why is India not talking when Pakistan keeps making these overtures? As it is most of these talks dont do much anyway. If it does well so much the better. I would personally take a bit of movement over complete standstill.

All the talk about trade & people to people contact shall be the thrown out of the window once a terror strike, dozens of which are attempted anyways, is successful. We will warn Pakistan against future attacks, Pakistan will talk of nuclear weapons and how India threatens regional stability. Things will then go quiet and the world power(s) (USA) will get India to calm down and start some sort of talks. And the circle shall continue :potstir: Until we are an economic giant. We need to be #3 after USA/China and leave Pakistan far behind. With economic might our military strength must keep pace, so that we are confident our missile shield can stop all their missiles and our borders can be guarded against infiltration and our conventional superiority is higher. Only then can we force peace.

Only then can we force peace. I do understand where you are coming from but I wish it was entirely true. Sorry to be a pessimist, or a realist pick your choice, but we are essentially dealing with a country whose citizen may very well not care much about economic prosperity. This has to do atleast partly due to religious angle where this world, and material wealth, is just an aberration and the jannat is everything. I dont mean to say every Pakistani thinks like that but many do. What are you gonna say to them? This is a very complex situation and I wish I was more optimistic than I am. However I do beleive in the whole adage of keep your friends close and your enemies closer. We need to indulge Pakistan if only to have a finger of what they intend to do. Of course this does not mean we should lower our guards by any chance. xx

JuD holds anti-India jehadi rally in Pakistani Kashmir Islamabad, February 04, 2010 The JuD today held a conference of radical groups in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to express solidarity on the Kashmir issue, its first major public event after lying low for months due to the scrutiny of its leaders in the wake of the Mumbai attacks. The 'Yakjaiti-e-Kashmir' (Kashmir Solidarity) conference in PoK capital Muzaffarabad, organised by the Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) -- the front of LeT which carried out the Mumbai attacks, was addressed by several leaders of 'jehadi' and radical groups, sources said. Details about the leaders who attended the meet could not immediately be ascertained. The conference was held after a gap of several years as such gatherings were not permitted by authorities after former military ruler Pervez Musharraf clamped down on 'jehadi' groups following an assurance to New Delhi that Pakistani soil would not be used for anti-India activities. JuD spokesman Yahya Mujahid, who was in Muzaffarabad to participate in the conference, said the organisation will hold a series of conferences and rallies in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Quetta and Peshawar in connection with the Kashmir Solidarity Day, which is observed on February 5. JuD chief Hafiz Mohammed Saeed will address a Friday prayer congregation and a conference in Lahore tomorrow, Mujahid said. Earlier reports had said that Saeed, a key accused in the Mumbai attacks, would address a meet in Islamabad. Senior JuD leader Abdur Rehman Makki will deliver a sermon at a Friday prayer congregation in Rawalpindi tomorrow and then lead a rally to the Aabpara area in Islamabad. There will also be a public meeting at Aabpara, where the radical Lal Masjid is located. Since 1990, Pakistan has observed February 5 as Kashmir Solidarity Day. The day is also a national holiday. In the past few weeks, the JuD has also resumed issuing statements to the media via e-mail on behalf of 'jehadi' and radical organisations. The release of such statements had virtually stopped following intense focus on its activities over the past year. Recently, the JuD issued two statements on behalf of a grouping of radical organisations that asked the Pakistan government to expel the Norwegian ambassador following the publication of cartoons of Prophet Mohammed by a newspaper in Norway. Members of Falah-e-Insaniyat, a front for the JuD, too have stepped up their activities like the collection of donations across Pakistan, including the federal capital. Following the Mumbai attacks, Pakistani leaders like Interior Minister Rehman Malik said the JuD had been banned. Top JuD leaders, including Hafiz Saeed, were detained or placed under house arrest only to be subsequently released. Of course this does not mean we should lower our guards by any chance. xx I know what you're referring to .. when we have their educated internet savvy crowd talking of war and nukes like we talked of diwali and firecrackers in our childhood and the entire country treats their religion and nukes as the best things on earth, there doesnt seem to be much hope. My belief is, whether Pakistan is a representative democracy or a military dictatorship, the leadership must care about the people. All of their past leaders have cooperated with the US. The people will protest, claiming the PM/General being a sellout, but the leadership has to make tough choices in their larger interest. If we have the economic muscle, we can reduce the US/Chinese influence on Indo-Pak relationship and the military might to give sleepless nights to the generals across the border, we can get the concessions that are not possible currently.
