Feed
More... Sehwag develops sore back Press Trust of India 22 February 2010 (Jaipur) Star opener Virender Sehwag has developed a sore back even though it is unlikely to affect his participation in the second cricket one-dayer against South Africa in Gwalior on Wednesday. "Sehwag has a sore back and he underwent a scan yesterday. But it doesn't look serious enough to render him unavailable for the Gwalior match," a team official said. Sehwag batted in last night's humdinger against South Africa which India clinched by a wafer-thin one-run margin in the final delivery. Sehwag scored a brisk 46 before he got out and he could not fill in the part-timer's role during South Africa's chase because of the sore back. Sehwag left the field during South Africa's innings and was replaced by Mumbai all-rounder Abhishek Nayyar. Link to comment

Karan114
Seems like he should be OK for the second game. Though if he does miss out, guess Karthik will open with Sachin, with Nayar replacing Veeru Link to comment
zubinpepsi
I think veeru shud rest.. we need to test our backup players.. I hope dhoni tries some new players like Tyagi, Nayar, Ashwin ... and also Pandey shud be tried.. my X1 for 2nd ODI 1.Sachin 2.Pandey 3.Karthik 4.Dhoni 5.Kohli 6.Raina 7.Nayar 8.Jadeja 9.Praveen 10.Nehra 11.Tyagi Link to comment

vvvslaxman
Back problems never go away. He has to sufficiently rest from here on. I dont think he should play next 2 matches. Rest him. I have been having back problem since i was young. Like Dhoni he has to take rest on and off. Rope in Uthappm or someone else. Link to comment
pappu_kanghi
If Sehwag doesnt play in the 2nd ODI how about Sachin opening the batting with.. Yusuf Pathan? Link to comment
Gunner_Mania
Dinesh Karthik will open. Link to comment
ViruRulez
I would agree .. this would be YP's last test too ... he would get the ideal condition but if he still cannot perform then just dump him forever Link to comment
kabira
why? Better to go with Virat Link to comment
acharya
yusuf should bat 4th or 5th down Link to comment
Gunner_Mania
I would agree .. this would be YP's last test too ... he would get the ideal condition but if he still cannot perform then just dump him forever I know it is pedantic, but How can it be his last test when it is a one day. Even then, the argument will be, he failed because he is not a regular opener ,and judging him as a failure by that is unfair. Link to comment
ViruRulez
Dinesh Karthik will open. why? Better to go with Virat Virat or Karthik are stable options but it is about testing and giving YP the last chance .. the PP overs will be suitable to Yusuf's batting is he can really hit .. if he can hit well and if his so called form works then we will post a massive unchaseable total and if he cannot just dump him forever ... if he cannot perform then there is no need to even include him in no.7 spot Link to comment

I have seen enough of the argument that he bats at no.7 and does not get chance.. give him full chance and the whole match to bat .. if he can really strike in those overs (at least 10 overs or so) then we are nearly sure of winning the match .. if he cannot then just dump him forever... we are anyways in a win win situation irrespective of whether he can perform or not Link to comment

Gunner_Mania
Why is Sehwag not playing He has a sore back . He is likely to be ready, this is just hypothetical. Link to comment

Opening batting is a specialist position. If it was not, every slogger would open the batting. If all hitters could open, why don't we open with Yuvraj when he is available? Why do you think there is such a fuss made about facing the new ball. YP does not have the technique to face the new ball. Link to comment
Bumblebee
karthik is going to open! and again he wouldnt score of the first three balls and hit a boundary! and take all the strike! he just cant rotate strike! Link to comment

Thats why it will be a test of his technique. And you cant say Yusuf has no technique until you test him. Link to comment
