The parts of your anatomy which are requisite cannot really be cut off. :--D

devla Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Thanks Lurker ... its actually good if one wants the easy way out, ie to come to work and do the bare minimum and work from home .. basically avoid work where possible but if one wants to go forward then this kind of environment can be dangerous as slowly but surely all employees become habitual of escaping from challenges. For example, I spend 2-3 hrs a day on ICF alone when I could have been involved in something creative or challenging. I can also direct this timeenergy towards finding another job or reading something which might help my career instead of chatting on ICF but its very easy to lose the momentum. I have been desperately trying to get out of here for a few months and hopefully it will happen soon, the reason i mentioned this on ICF is to show how easy it is to get lost and comfortable in a situation which is not challenging/interesting. DC - Just realize that the new place / new gig may have the same type of problems. Don't take it as an argument against change. You boss seems to be happy with status quo and that may be his attitude to work but you could show initiative by taking on new work by yourself, without someone telling you what to do. Go to him or his boss with ideas of what you can do and how it would add value to them or the company - own the new idea. I don't think they will stand in the way if they think you know what you're talking about.

Think about this - if you were working for yourself, running your own business, would it still be easy to lose momentum? If the answer is yes, you're in the wrong profession. You need to find something you are passionate about. I know it's cliche but still true.
