cowboysfan Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 aussies crickters are the scum of the earth.most of the onfield incidents in world cricket are due to the ausies and pakis behaving badly or instigating something.just look at the recently concluded ind-sa series and how it was played in good spirits.
putrevus Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 What utter tosh! Why should Styris be fined at all? From the videos, it appears that he was not in the wrong at all. The ill tempered, out of control Johnson should have been penalized more. This 60% fine is really an eyewash. Physical contact between players must necessarily be treated in a much more severe fashion. It sets an example. And the punitive degree determines what kind of example it ends up being. The most important aspect of this ruling is both offenses in Gambhir's case and this case they were charged with level 2 offenses.which means fine between 50 to 100% or ban for one test or two Odis, verdicts in this case 60% match fees and in gambhir's case one test ban. Same offense but two different verdicts.
Rajan Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 waiting for Sumil Gavaskar to write about this... i wish Chris Broad were the referee in this match, then we could have clearly exposed his double standards..
sreej Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Jesus, Ranjan Madugalle has such a huge inferiority complex.
achilles Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 You kidding me? Head-butting a player is nothing? Leave it buddy. The fact that he hasn't showed up online after Johnson got fined shows what a "sport" he is. Typical Aussie. Never do they have the guts to admit they screwed up.
Bradman99 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Bradman99 - explain to me how you defend Johnson's actions in this case, please. If you want to see passion and aggression (of the physical kind) in the sport then you could watch boxing or wrestling. Or any of those other full contact sports. Dont get me wrong. I am not saying people should not celebrate or enjoy or disagree or even stare the others down. What can be cool to an Australian may not be cool to an Indian and vice versa. That is why there are rules and there is a spirit to the noble game. What Johnson did there was what a loser would do. If only all angry fast bowlers were allowed to vent their emotions, there would be batsmen out there wanting to use the piece of wood in their hands to good effect - on something other than a leather sphere, mind you :). Again - dont get me wrong. But if Johnson is not given some punishment for his disgusting act here, then what is the point of having a match referee? Well Stryis must have said something to get Johnson so fired up, right ? In the case of Benn everyone here was saying it was Australia's fault and again it's all Australia's fault. I don't see how what Johnson did can really have done much harm to Styris. There was practically NO physical contact, just a slight helmet hit, in which case Johnson is the one who would feel it more anyway. If it was pushing or tripping the other player over then it is understandable for people to carry on like this about the situation, but it's not. I bet if it was the other way around and a NZ player did that to an Aus player, people here would be calling him there favourite player or whatever, which is fine by me.
Bradman99 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 You kidding me? Head-butting a player is nothing? Slightly headbutting a player with a helmet on isn't going to hurt them, in fact it would of hurt Johnson more. But a 60% fine is fair enough, a match ban would have been too much. The talk by mr achilles about Johnson was excessive like all his other anti-australian rants.

I fail to understand why you are even attempting to defend Johnson's actions, Bradman99. I thought you took all the criticism emanating out of the Benn incident sportingly and acceptingly. So why the volte' face now? No matter what Styris said, Johnson's 'slight' head butting was not on. Do you agree? And tell me do you think it was fair that Johnson was only fined 60% of his match fee? Especially when you compare what happened in the case of Gambhir vs Watson?

The only thing which Johnson did which warrants a 60% match fee was make contact with Stryis' helmet, otherwise I can't see anything wrong with what happened at all. I prefer to judge each incident on its merit. In my opinion what Johnson did was only worth a 60% match fee. I don't agree with the ban Gambhir got, but that doesn't affect my feelings towards Johnson's ban.

I don't agree with the ban Gambhir got, but that doesn't affect my feelings towards Johnson's ban. Well, I still fail to understand all this. In your opinion, one cricketer making deliberate physical contact with another is worth only a dock of 60% of the match fee? It is immaterial whether Johnson hurt Styris or not. It is the act and the intention that counts. Whither goes the idea of setting an example to the thousands if not tens of thousands of youngsters and children watching? If people wish to see contact sports then why not watch Boxing or Wrestling? No matter what the heat of the moment is, this menace of physical intervention must be eradicated from the game. If not, the day is not far off when the batsman will not hesitate to use the piece of wood in his hand. Do we want that to happen?
Bradman99 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I do feel that what he did only warranted 60% of his match fee. You fail to understand it because you don't agree with me, which I understand and respect. We don't have to share the same view, that is what a forum is for- at least that's what I thought. As with that example, don't you think you are taking things a bit out of context. By the way, I don't understand why Stryis was fined any money.

But as always I appreciate that you understand the futility of fining Styris. Also with that example, it is not as much as taking it out of context as a projection of what might happen in the future. You know, the batsman does not always need to lie down and take all the abuse. One of these days they might decide to follow Ian Chappell's advise and set their mind to get at the bowler himself with a bat! Where will the game be then? That is precisely why such acts of rage (amplified by a sense of impending defeat in the game) must be culled. Whether the player is Australian or Indian or Kiwi or South African.
achilles Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 Well Stryis must have said something to get Johnson so fired up' date= right ? Lol. You truly are a BLIND flipping fool. :hehe: You can continue to make yourself feel happy with your flawed logics and I'm sorry to say, I'm losing respect for your opinion in this case, which, as thevortex truly pointed out was a complete volte-face from your stand on the Benn issue. I give up man. I win, you lose. Find someone else to sell your views on this subject to. Coz I regret to inform you, you are wrong (atleast partially). :hatsoff: And I liked your stance on the Styris thing. A far-cry from your stance 2 pages back. So KIU
Bradman99 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 We shall agree to disagree then. I know what you are saying now, but if a batsman ever does that it would have huge consequences and rightfully so, so no one would want to do it again. Don't think anyone would do it in the first place though, to be fair. But anyway, you raise some good points and I see where you are coming from.

I fail to believe that the sole reason why Johnson was getting so worked up and would go up to Stryis like that would be because he was getting smashed. He's been smashed before and never reacted like that. Stryis must of said something or got in his way or something like that for Johnson to react in the way he did. Why, what was I saying 2 pages ago about Styris
