patriot Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Mine would be: Gavaskar Dravid Steve Waugh Kallis Allan Border I don't think any side with 5 of these batters would ever lose a test.
Guest DeveGowda Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 What if bowlers are Holding,Hadlee,Wasim,Ambrose and Warne or Murali ?
patriot Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 If 5 of the toughest nuts ( IMO) to crack can't do it. No one can. I would pick Graeme Smith as the other opener with Gavaskar. Extremely tough under pressure. Very underrated. But the above are my top 5.
Watson87 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Mathew Hayden Gautam Gambhir Sachin Tendulkar Jacques Kallis Kumar Sangakara
EnterTheVoid Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I would pick Graeme Smith as the other opener with Gavaskar. Extremely tough under pressure. Very underrated. Agree. Remember his match winning hundred in the second innings against England (the series where Vaughan resigned) or when he came to bat at the SCG with a broken hand ? Also exceptional fielder.
Riley's Girl Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Graeme Smith Adam Gilchrist Sachin Tendulkar Matthew Hayden Jacques Kallis
Gunner_Mania Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Tendulkar Dravid Gauti Dhoni That is only 4:fail:

Excellent thread and you probably have the same bunch that I would have picked - with one exception. I would swap Border out for Miandad.
thevortex Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Bravest among us would be that guy who would pick Sehwag in this list of 5 cricketers! :) I guess 'brave' or 'foolish' depends on perspective too.
rabinjackman Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Hashim amla....in present form Andy FLower Tendulkar Lara Dravid
rabinjackman Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Amla n Flower were nearly unbeatable when they toured India :haha:
patriot Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 Excellent thread and you probably have the same bunch that I would have picked - with one exception. I would swap Border out for Miandad. Thank you Bala. I too thought about Miandad. Viv Richards had once famously said that he would choose Miandad if he had to pick one batsman to bat for his life. But I thought otherwise because of his way below avg record against the West Indies ( - avg 29) who were far and away the best attack in his days. Therefore prefer Allan Border.
Sachinism Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 That is only 4:fail: my 4 are so good, i don't require a 5th
zen Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Mine would be: Gavaskar Dravid Steve Waugh Kallis Allan Border I don't think any side with 5 of these batters would ever lose a test. What if your life depended up on winning the test?
