Irrespective of where the players are born once they are granted British Citizenship - in whatever way, either them having completed the qualifying period, or because of their ancestral or parental ties - there is not a lot that the ECB can do to stop them from playing for England, if they are good enough to command a postion in the English team. What Vaughan & the ECB should be thinking about is if Kieswetter and Trott who cam through the SA domestic system are better than some other English players who have come through the English domestic system, then may be there is something wrong with the English domestic system and that is what they should be aiming to fix at. This 18 county system doesn't work for England and they have got to reduce it to 12 or 14 do away with the long drawn out county season, have incentives - not mandate - for playing at least 1-2 under 21s in the county games, stop playing Pro-40 which nobody in the world plays and play proper 50 over FC matches, 4 day matches and a T20 tournament.

I am fine with the England team using whatever policy they have, related to the inclusion of foreign origin players. But the thing is, if this trend continues to occur, it just isnt an English nationall side anymore, its a bit like a club/IPL side. I'd like to think when India plays England, its actually the Indians taking on the Englishmen, not Indians taking on some Englishmen and some other talented South Africans. Already, the English cricket side has a multi-cultural feel to it.. Now, it has a multi-national feel to it also.:giggle:

Isnt that how United States was built? You are good at something, science/technology/sports etc, you get pushed to the front of citizenship line and can start competing within a matter of years, if not earlier.

Absolutely and I have great respect for this inclusive policy. But when it comes to sporting sides, as a spectator, you do find it a bit weird when your opposition team has players from all sorts of national origins. But the fact remains, Kieswetter, or for that matter Pietersen, are British nationals. There's no arguing against that FACT. And all ECB is well within its rights to pick ANY British national to play for the national team. I suppose that is the nature of the globalized world that we live in today.
