Guest DeveGowda Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Best options to reduce these poal viruses by derailing these threads...from now onwards we simply write whatever we want in this threads :hysterical:
Roshanrocks Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Bublu BHuyan hasnt gone through the old threads like i have so he wudnt know ....how boring tendulkar vs xxxx comparisons have become...there is a hot debate going on right now vis-a vis tendulkar vs Bradman.... that too is becoming tiresome now :(
Shawn Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Viv is the best.Guy batted without helmets back in old days against far better pace bowling attacks.Maintaining an average of 47 with a SR of 90 in that era is significant.Strength of bowling attacks has decreased in last 15 years.
Clarke Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Where is Zaheer Abbas, he averages 47+ in odis :hitler: :hitler:
Gunner_Mania Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Why do these n00bies have to bump up 3 month old threads as soon as they join.:wall:
rkt.india Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 viv richards for me, purely because of how his record compares to others of his era. the average strike rate back then was around 60-70, and averages rarely went past 35. his record was almost bradmanesque in how far ahead he was. then this same goes for bradman he is certainly the best test batsman ever as his average, his scoring rate, his number of 100s, 200s, 300s are far more than his contemporaries....Cant we say the contemporaries of Richards like Srikanth and others were not as gud as him and were not that much adjusted to ODI cricket....

Also, Richards is a World Champion since he won WC for his country unlike Tendulkar.
Sachin200* Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Sachin the greatest pakistanis will say richards cz they are jealous of tendulkar as he is indian they always bring lara or ponting when ever the greatest batsman topic comes . tendulkar without doubt is the greatest batsman in any forms he is the most worshipped cricketer in the world the only player to score more than 150 five times in odis 200* 186* 175 163* he has the most tests & odi runs he has the most test & odi centuries the youngest player to score a test century at perth which is regarded as the fastest pitch in the cricket. Pakistan can never produce a tendulkar no lara no bradman no ponting no inzy no viv all are nothing before sachin.

CSK Fan Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Also' date=' Richards is a World Champion since he won WC for his country unlike Tendulkar.[/quote'] Please stick to watching tennis. You have no idea what a team game is. You give one batsman the likes of Walsh. Ambrose, etc to support and the other the likes of Prasad, etc and then you have the idea to compare their batting skills in terms of team results? didnt you learn the simple logic in school that in order to compare two things, all other factors must be equal? How can you compare team results of two individuals in different teams when we are talking about the better batsman? You have Usain bolt and 3 handicapped runners on one relay team and 4 normal Pakistani runners in the other. Which team will win? The Pakistani team will win each time, but does that mean Usain Bolt is NOT the fastes runner in the world and the Pakistanis are based on team results? In the above example all 4 runners, where doing the same thing, i.e, running. Now imagine cricket in which there are players bowling, fielding, running, the toss factor. How many more factors tdoes the eventual outcome of crickt depend on
Mr. Wicket Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Bevan, Viv, Tendulkar, Ponting... All have a case.. Bevan has a case for being the most overrated batsman in ODI history. Dean Jones was far superior.
Zap_Brannigan Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 If Dhoni retired today, would he be considered as one of the greatest ODI batsman ever? His stats are pretty similar to Richards. 90 SR,51 avg, 5500+ runs in 147 innings, 7 100's, 36 50's Vs 90 SR,47 avg, 6700+ runs in 167 innings, 11 100's, 45 50's

It was a good thing that he didnt face the famous WI bowlers then..90's Aus,Pak, SL (plus SA) were better than 80's Aus,Eng,Pak,Ind As much as you think that fast bowling got worse in the 90's compared to the 80's (only true for WI), Mcgrath, Donald, Akram, Waqar were at the peak in their 90's. Not to forget the 2 best spin bowlers in Warne and Murali.
SachDan Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 ^ Also Saqlain Mushtaq, who was a fine one day bowler.
Kriterion Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Viv had the advantage of playing a significant part of his ODI career when the no.of overs per side was 55 and 60 overs and ofcourse more than half of the best bowling resources in his time were in his team. And there was no SAF and SL were absolute minnows. Richards batted without any powerplays and free hits (not that free hits have been around long enough to significantly alter stats). but the 15 overs of PPs is crucial perhaps not when comapring to middle order bats like dhoni, but to other openers. his SR of 90 in those days, is intuitively equal to 120-130 nowadays. hardly anyone averages 90 runs per 100 balls even in the era of PPs and free hits. also Richards only played 9 of his 167 innings against SL and ZIM. and his averge in those 9 innings wasn't much higher than his overall average, 51 vs 47. further, richards was anything but a minnow basher: he averaged more than his overall career average against all the established sides of his day with the sole exception of pakistan. although the WI had the strongest bowling attack around, there were a fair number of prominent ODI bowlers around the other nations who had managed to accumulate at least 100 wickets before IVR retired: wasim, imran, lillee, kapil, chatfield, qadir, and bob willis had played long enough (64 innings) to snap up 80 wickets. and i forgot richard hadlee who had one the best records around that time.
akshayxyz Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 STFU guys, and stop comparing legends across eras. ... sachin > richards > sachin > richards ...
Zap_Brannigan Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 To people who care about avg. while batting without powerplays for just 150+ innings, its Dhoni > Richards > Sachin To everyone else who actually can understand how hard it is to maintain excellence for 400+ innings, its Sachin > Dhoni > Richards
