For skeptics who doubt the viability of buying Indian Premier League (IPL) teams at the sky high valuations they got on Sunday, here is more proof. Brand Finance Report says the IPL brand is valued at USD 4.13 billion as against USD 2.01 billion in 2009, reports CNBC-TV18's Tanvi Shukla. Brand IPL has a higher valuation than Manchester United, which is valued close to USD 3 billion. The value of IPL's branded business has doubled over last year. The combined brand value of all franchisees stands at USD 333 million. Chennai Super Kings has the highest brand value at USD 48.4 million. KKR slipped to second rank with a brand value at USD 46 million. Mumbai Indians and Deccan Chargers brand value stands at USD 41 million and USD 34.4 million, respectively. The report cites the renegotiation of broadcast deals, doubling of revenues, and higher base price for new teams as reasons for the higher brand valuation. However, the report cautions that IPL revenues are likely to stagnate over the next two years. According to Unni Krishnan, MD, Brand Finance India, "The English Premier League is actually facing one of the most difficult times in its history. This, despite having most loyal, die-hard fans, and great sponsors that you can ask for. So, what went wrong over there? Very simply, poor governance, poor financial prudence, poor transparency, and poor systems and processes. Is there a lesson that IPL can learn from that? You bet it has and that is a significant test for IPL going forward."
http://www.moneycontrol.com/news/cnbc-tv18-comments/ipl-brand-valued-at-36413-_448082.html Suck on it IPL haters. :finger: It is also funny to see KKR dropping to second position in terms of brand value after dominating by a huge margin for the first two years. Maybe if the continue with their current performance they might end up in the bottom 4 till next year in terms of brand value. :--D However, I am surprised to see CSK brand value growing to become the highest amongst teams. I would have thought MI to take over as the highest brand value amongst the franchisees once KKR started declining. Did not know Chennai also had such a large fan base.

CSK and DD has been the most consistent teams in IPL, so no surprise that they have more brand value. But its probably mostly because CSK has Dhoni, who is the captain of the #1 team in the world!!

But DD is not amongst the top 4 teams in terms of brand value .. it was not that bring brand value in last IPL too I suppose.... KKR on the other has been one of the worst performers in IPL yet one of the biggest brand values in IPL ever since its inception .. so performance and consistency is not the main reason behind brand value .. Bengalis are crazy about cricket .. the ticket at Eden Gardens start at one of the highest amongst all the IPL cities and they go upto 32000 .. but still the available portion of the Eden Gardens is nearly filled up .. Bengalis are crazy about sports especially cricket and so the value is more .. it has to be Chennai people being crazy about cricket too for which the brand value is continuously rising

Those factors are true. But performance also matters. RR shot up on brand value after they won IPL 1 when they started out as the "cheapest" team. Its not just 1 factor. Its everything. With KKR its 100,000 Bengalis+Shah ruk. With CSK, its Dhoni, Performance ,fans despite CSK stadium is less than half of what Eden gardens can hold etc.

Why are they comparing Man u (a frigging team) to an entire sporting league. IPL has a long way to go before it can brag about it's presence. Its a new baby in the craddle and everyone wants to rock it but once the poop starts stinking it'll be interesting to see how many will want to be around it. Cricket quality et al is alright in IPL but the way they present it to the audience it is nowhere near any sporting league, I mean they are so desperate to throw in ads on big screen TV when the bowler is making his way back to the runup mark. Commentators sound as if they're on Viagra and seem to have read all the 20k marirs' post. The way they exxagerate every little thing is so painful to watch. 2-3 years more and all the respective board will have a huge headache in sustaining half commited players because given the format of ipl it will be hard to juggle between international duties and ipl simultaenously. The earlier all the boards and player resolve this matter the better it'll be for the fans.

He would have never thought that this club level tournament would fill stadium's and create fan-base. So he undervalued ipl and allowed the sponsors to brand everything, from six to success. Second comes Sony Max, they are making a killing out of it by exploiting the gaps and pauses of action in cricket. Such a practice would never be possible in free flowing games like football. And Modi, out of utter ignorance of the appeal of the league would have agreed to all this ridiculous ads while selling the contract to sony. And thirdly the greedy men with mikes. I am sure they are being paid a token amount for uttering "DLF Maximum" and "Citi Moment of Success". Overall the contribution from fans is minimal. The revenue for franchises from merchandise is negligible. Deals have been signed with all maa-baap companies in the utter desperation to cover up losses. I guess by the time of 6th Season, there would be a lot of corporate behemoth's ready to invest in these franchises and IPL as a whole. Then we can kick off all this ridiculous chota chota sponsors. The number of ads will reduce and quality would definitely pick up.

IPL brand value doubles to $4.13 billion: Study NEW DELHI: Quickfire cricket format Indian Premier League's brand value has more than doubled to $4.13 billion (over Rs 18,000 crore), while 'Chennai Super Kings' has emerged the most valued franchise this year, says a study. Ranked fourth last year, Chennai Super Kings led by MS Dhoni has moved to number one with a valuation of $48.4 million, followed by Shahrukh Khan-owned Kolkata Knight Riders ($46 million) and Shilpa Shetty's Rajasthan Royals ($45.2 million). The valuation of teams pale in comparison to the IPL brand itself, which has more than doubled from last year's $2.01 billion. "The IPL brand alone has risen significantly from the previous year's valuation providing tremendous economic value to its owner BCCI," according to brand valuation consultancy Brand Finance. "In comparison to international benchmarks for sporting business' such as EPL (English Premier League) which is valued at $12 billion, the IPL juggernaut, in a short span of 3 years, is valued at $4 billion and has the potential to grow further," said Unni Krishnan, Managing Director of Brand Finance India. "A huge amount of Intellectual property is being created by the complete IPL ecosystem which was sustained despite last year's difficult economic conditions. This demonstrates the exponential value of IPL and the Brand potential in a cricket loving country like India and other global cricketing countries," Brand Finance said in a release. The individual franchisees have also seen a fair amount of uplift in value since last year. Vijay Mallya-promoted Royal Challengers Bangalore is ranked fourth this year with a valuation of $41.9 million and is followed by Nita Ambani-owned Mumbai Indians ($40.8 million), Delhi Daredevils ($40.5 million), Kings XI Punjab ($36.1 million) and Hyderabad Deccan Chargers at the bottom with a valuation of $34.4 million. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/iplarticleshow/5713042.cms :two_thumbs_up:
