It is actually the speed that is measured, when the bowler [b']RELEASES THE BALL. Just out of curiosity, can you please explain this in terms of some equations. Very simple ones like Speed = Distance traveled / time. Obviously they must use both these variables to calculate speed right? So how do they do it? Very politely, I request you to refrain from making fun of me or ridiculing me just coz I am asking you a question. It may be one of the most stupid questions ever asked in the history of humanity but sir please don't make fun of my ignorance. Please just help educate a markedly less intelligent fellow. Edit - to be more precise, when you say they "measure the ball at the release", what is the actual number they use to characterize distance and time so that they can measure Speed = Distance / Time. For example, consider the distance is 10 meters and they measure the ball leaving the hand and traveling for 10 meters as say 0.05 seconds. Then Speed = 10 / 0.05 = 200 meters per second. Further Edit (the Italics) - And after that is done they will use the equation for "acceleration / deceleration" to arrive at the speed at the release calculated to be for a distance of say 0.1 meters from the hand. So, my question is, when they "measure the ball at the release", what is the value for distance (meters or feet or whatever) and time (seconds or micro-seconds or whatever)? Maybe, the answer to this question may help us slightly educated folks understand "measuring the ball at the point of release" in a better way than say a thug from the bushes of australia who runs around catching pigs and yaps off saying he bowled at 180 kms/hr? Sorry for the sarcasm.

But as far as Iam concerned I don't need any calculation to tell me that the bowlers in those videos are sending down pie's. It was the Bradman jingos that were going bellicose. But FWIW I did estimate speeds for Shoab and compared with the speeds that were posted on the footage after each delivery. It was fairly accurate ( my speeds were higher than the official ones posted .. I have explained all this meticulously in that thread .. but why would you want to entertain facts when shouting and hurling insults is your forte that you excel in ? ) Uh, why would I do an U-turn? I don’t care whose idea it was or who suggested it first. But I do know that, thanks to your tireless hard-work, we that, in all likelihood, Ray Lindwall was almost certainly a 90 mph bowler! Dont worry I edited out all the stats from the "Stats for the Boss ... " threads ... totally my mistake. Should have known better and listened to Doc. Feel free to delete those threads. No idea why you would go around editing/deleting your posts. Nobody here says don’t crunch numbers. It is just that, half the time, we are arguing over the relative merits and de-merits of players when we could use numbers to do so much else. What ? Some random guy says something and you assumed that he was talking stats ... and are now blaming me for that ... Brilliant ! . Do you even read my stats related posts properly ? I rarely ever do series based stats ... they are as pointless as they can be because one flat pitch or juicy pitch can affect the bowling/batting averages adversely. The last one I did was many yrs ago. Just because your mind has stereotyped me into a stats guy and imagines things doesn't mean that they are right. I didn’t say you directly inspired that guy to type what he did, but it is the culture of using numbers to be the be-all-end-all criterion for judging players was very much fostered by you, among many others.

I have been seeing people claiming that you keep yourself busy licking Sachins groin, Or your Dad would be a sorry **** for making someone like you and so on. I am not sure if on other boards people can getaway with all this. I dont know how people figure it out so many intimate details, just by reading views internet cricket forum
