Did we miss the trick....

..by not picking Sreesanth. It was wrong to base selection purely on IPL performance (exception of jadeja)when the pitches were nothing compared to the real deal in the windies. Sreesanth would've pushed the 150kmph envelope at Barbados (we've seen how he ups his game on pitches that assist pacers Plus he hates the aussies. ) and could've slipped in 4 great overs like Bhajji with a couple of wickets.

Sreesanth - T20I 10 matches, 7 wickets, average 41.1, ER 8.5. Yep, definitely the solution to our problems...
But so are our rest of bowlers. Fast bowling has been always a weakness and now the question is choosing the least weakness among the weakest whcih is hard and sree belongs to this group.

Which of our bowlers has a worse record than an average of 41 and ER of 8.5 in T20Is? Nehra has a worse economy rate but a much better average, Zak has a much better average and ER, as does Praveen (though he has only played three games). Hell even Irfan's record is much superior to Sreesanth in T20I. Sreesanth is rubbish in T20I. Just because our main bowlers are bad it doesn't mean we pick someone who is even worse than them.

The 11 that played yday was as good as any other team that we can select and play. Where we lacked was in planning and some very bad decisions by Dhoni, none of which worked.

Ashwin might have been useful. He got so much bounce even on some of the Indian wickets. He had carrom ball to go with. He would have been a confusing proposition to go after. But spinners are always risky on pocket sized grounds. They have to be absolutely spot on. Zak was the worst culprit. Being a senior bowler if he had not gone for that many runs and picked a few wickets India could have got a chasable total.

My point is that Sreesanth is awesome or pathetic depending on the kindofpitch... if there is something in it for pace bowling - Sreesanth usually shows up with his A game.

India's biggest disadvantage was lack of swing. SA had lot of swing. RP Singh was unplayable there. He was literally making the ball talk. Nehra would have been far more effective in SA compared to these "just bouncy" track. Praveen is one guy who swings anywhere. Too bad we missed him.

Not selecting Ojha or Mishra is a big mistake ... U cannot fill team with part timer and expect to win ..
Also not using intelligent bowler like Raina was a mistake. Raina's pause is actually very effective.

Sreesanth is the Fastest World Class bowler in our country. He is temperamental and I think he's got a reserved ticket in the bus everytime India plays. Sort your temper out, young man. :hatsoff:

Do we need a fast bowler with a bad temper or medium pacers with a smile on their face all the time ??... that doesn't seem like a tough choice to me...

I don't think there is any International quality pacer in our country who is as naturally gifted as Sreesanth. He should channelize his "temper". We all know how lethal he is. His biggest drawback, which is also his strength, is that he tries to get a wicket every ball.
