When was the last time India won a competitive game... ...at an ICC tourney? I was thinking about the last time India won a competitive or a must-win game in ICC tourneys and was amazed we haven't done so for ages! T20 2007 was an exception probably coz there was no pressure at all on the folks. Here's the list so far... 1. Champions Trophy 2004 - Lost to pak in a de-facto quarter final game. Winner would have gone on to semis. 2. Champions Trophy 2006 - Same thing as in 2004. Only difference was this time we lost to aussies and didn't even reach semis. 3. World cup 2007 - Less said the better. We couldn't get past SL in a must win game after losing to B'desh in the opener. 4. Champions Trophy 2008 - Lost to pak again in a must-win and crashed out before semis 5. T20 2009 - Lost ALL 3 super 8 games!!! Lost to Eng, Windies and SA 6. T20 2010 - As usual we are 0-2 in super 8s and I am sure we will end up 0-3 after facing SL. So we are 0-5 so far in super 8s in the last 2 ICC T20s. We do well in group games which has no bearing whatsoever (no points carried over etc.) and lose whenever there's a meaningful game. Essentially we have become worse than saffers in ICC tourneys. We are great at winning bilateral series and as soon as we enter a must-win or a competitive game at any ICC tourney we sure are consistent in our performances with a track record which no other team can match. At least SA get to knock-out stages and semis before f***ing up but we can't even get that far! Considering there are only 8 decent test teams we are competing against we are not even able to make it to top 4, I guess we are KKR (Kolkatta Knight Riders) of world cricket :(( As for 2011 world cup the only chance we have is if we make spin friendly pitches and load our team with spinners a la CSK and hope we are able to replicate SL's success of 1996. And by the way someone tell Dhoni it's ok to bat after winning the toss. Most of the matches in this tourney has proven so.

In 20/20 you have far less deliveries to gut it out. When the asking rate creeps towards ten, you have to play your shots even on short pitched balls

What I meant to say was... India is to world cricket what KKR is to IPL - full of superstars but ultimately good for a few laughs and not able to make it to the knock-out rounds

I would rather my team makes it to semis or finals. What's the point of being there if you can't even get past the initial rounds? Forget about getting past the initial rounds, all I am waiting for is just ONE win in a must-win scenario. It's been so long since I saw India winning a match which really mattered that now I already know India will mess up a must win game in tourneys but will be great in bilateral series.

Don't agree there - I would be happy if India got to the semi-finals of big tournaments regularly, as that shows a decent performance even if not exceptional (which can only be victory). Crashing out in the group stages time and again is getting very frustrating.

Because in that tournament RP singh and Sreesanth took loads of wicket. This has not been the case in other tournaments.
