i don't know.. the world cup in 96 was won by sri lanka. champions trophy was won by the windies (?)...other teams do okay in india and abroad. even sri lanka who are atrocious travelling still got to the finals in 07 and in 09.. maybe the team can't handle pressure.
hmm india won wc in england in 1983, won t20 wc in 2007 in sa, won cb series in australia. drawn champions trophy in srilanka. india did ok abroad too then.

yeah they've ok too i suppose. but it's just that the indian team looks more out of sorts than any other side when there's even the slightest bit of bounce on the track. i shudder to think about what would happen people like dravid and tendulkar retire. for example i can't believe that somebody like raina made all the way to the indian team with 0% backfoot game.

Cos you know every other team can play in all conditions properly. Aus and SA suffer against spin, Pak suffers against swing, bounce, pace or spin and SL suffers against good bowling.

What would India have to do to become contenders for 50 over - 2011 world cup? 1. make sure that IPL 4 is not held just before the world cup tourney starts. It could be held after the world cup. This is most important. With the league having an additional 2 teams the stress will be more. And the teams would be thinner in terms of talent resulting in more cow-lashing success. 2. Hold training camps for bowlers, especially our trundlers to learn the art of bowling yorkers and accurate short balls. Training done, should be similar to the old chinese kung fu training they showed in the movies :hitler: 3. Hold training camps for batsmen especially for short balls and dilscoops. Here too old movie style kung fu traiining to be used. 4. Make sure we select 3 trundlers in every game instead of 2. 5. Send Jadeja to a psychiatrist FIRST before even thinking of putting him him in the 30 probables list. Hi nightmares would be worse than Warne's, thousand times over. 6. Allow Sachin to do whatever he wants to do, allow him to play what match he wants and sit for what match he wants. Just make sure he is fit for the world cup. 7. Send Yuvraj SIngh to weight loss clinic, let him lose weight first. On a more serious note.... :dontknow:
Forget WC 2011. Nothing will happen for India. Maybe they can start preparing for 2015.

i couldnt care less about a lack of a 140k bowler.i will take brains' date='guile and preparation over express speed anyday.[/quote'] Sure, we have a lot of bowlers with guile and preparation..................NOT!!

the recent australian series will prove otherwise.essentially their"B" team beat us easily.
it wasn't exactly their B team and it was far from easy they won two matches with 4 runs and 3 runs... which could have gone either way

To be honest I can only really see 3 teams winning it- Australia, India or South Africa. South Africa always seem to fall short though, I'd anticipate an India vs Australia final but it's still a long way away, anything could happen.

Haha at this stage, I reckon they are the 2 most likely sides. But things can change, it'd depned on the injuries and form of teams during the tournament.

I'd bank all my money on Pakistan' date=' West Indies or any of the minnows not winning it![/quote'] Pakistan's got a spin heavy attack, suitable for the conditions.they'd certainly qualify from group stages n from then its a knockout, anything can happen

1)Drop Ravindra Jadeja and hand him a lifetime ban. (oh wait we are not pakistan haha) the boy needs some therapy 2) Hire a professional gym trainer for Yuvraj, Rohit, Raina and other unfit guys. 3) Drop Zaheer Khan and and Yousuf Pathan eventhough they are econimical they don't have wicket taking abilities for oneday cricket and play Ojha/ Mishra and Ishant Sharma who is light years ahead of Z. Khan (mr overrated sob). 4) Batting line up: Sehwag Gambhir Sachin Dhoni (wk) cap Raina Yuvi Rohit Sharma/ Robin Uthapa (finisher, both are way better than fluke Pathan) Bhajji Pragyan Ojha/ Amit Mishra Ashish Nehra / Vinay Kumar Ishant Sharma Spin is the key in our pitches also the slower bowlers will be hard to get runs off so I will chose Vinay Kumar over Nehra also Raina, Yuvi and Rohit can bowl 10 overs and I am sure they will do a much better job than ugly inbred Yousuf Pathan

What would India have to do to become contenders for 50 over - 2011 world cup? Use our good relation with Karzai and get some of their bowlers to play for us...

we need our pace bowlers to hit form.... some miracle needs to happen to Ishant , Sreeshanth and Irfan. Yousuf Pathan has been given a lot of chances in international cricket for near to zilch performance, time to show him the door, but dont be surprised if he comes good against Zimbabwe and becomes apermanent member in our team
Demolish all the pitches in India having even a hint of bounce. We wouldn't want to be exposed in our own backyard.
that...seriously is the best thing that BCCI can do

Well if we really need to think of winning that cup, first of all we need to rethink our traditional strength Batting.Batsmen should be well prepared for the bouncers, and the scorchers.Secondly we must improve our fielding standards and try to reach a standard, from which we never fall, maintain that standard throughout the world cup (and the standard must not be a degraded one :P).Along with all this, we must improve the running between the wickets, basics of the running like grounding the bat, diving, running between the thrower and stumps, and all those stuff. Now comes the bowling. We must look at the combination with a variety, not going for big names, but going for potential capacity and the current form.Three pacer along with a spinner will do the job, as there are part-timers who can complete the remaining quota of 10 overs. So, really we need to start learning from basics, and if we can do that, we will surely be a very good contenders for this World Cup, along with the Home advantage we already possess. P.S : No IPL before the World Cup, because the IPL will degrade the quality of Cricket played by India in World Cup due t oany reason like injury, non-ability to adjust in the longer format, playing too many risky hoiks across the line etc. it may be technical or even a psychological effect.
