Sigh. It is a sad day for Indian cricket when you read something like this. Sadder still that it happens while so many fantastic role models like Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly and Kumble are still active in one form or another of the game, and yet these players fail to learn anything from those class acts in terms of conduct and dignity.

The BCCI on Thursday issued a showcause notice to six Indian cricketers who were involved in a brawl with fans at a pub in the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia. Notices were served to Yuvraj Singh, Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan, Ravindra Jadeja, Piyush Chawla and Rohit Sharma. The BCCI has sought to find out from the players if the brawl did happen and who was to blame. The team's manager has also been spoken to. The brawl erupted at a pub called Tequila Joe's on Tuesday night after the Indian team's loss to Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup. Nehra and others were having a drink at the pub while Yuvraj was trying to get them onto the dance floor. Some Indian fans got agitated on seeing the cricketers enjoy themselves and reportedly abused them. The fans told the players it was disappointing to see them drink and enjoying themselves after the defeat on the field. Their comments instigated Nehra and led to a tussle. Yuvraj tried to calm things down but eventually, the pub's bouncers had to intervene. Nobody suffered injuries. The pub's manager confirmed the incident, but Yuvraj denied there had been any brawl. what is hypocritical on Kirsten's part is that he is coming at with all the fitness stuff when we are losing so badly.why didnt he come out with it a year ago when it was plain for everybody to see the lack of fitness in a number of players?

BTW I saw Wasim jaffer at the movies , the same day he got out against Aus in a test match after not scoring many runs. The guy sat through an entire 'comedy' movie but didnt even smile once. KKD was there with his mrs as well and he had fun. My friend was really angry that this guy is shameless bla bla and I asked him to just see his face. trust me Wasim was more disappointed than any cricket fan in India. Just cuz they go out to change their mood or to move on, doesnt mean that failures dont mean anything to them

There are some people who put tremendous value on their places in the side, and many of those had to really work for it. Guys like Jaffer, even after a double hundred, remember what they're doing for a living and why. Look at the work ethic and discipline shown by people like Dravid and Laxman, who had to make the most of every chance they could without ever being coddled by selectors and media. Most of the younger fans and kids here will not be familiar with this, but there were times a decade+ ago where Dravid's place in the ODI side was nowhere NEAR certain, and Laxman struggled to barely hold a spot in the test side. Heck, even a few years ago around 2006 or 7, VVS was dropped to accomodate Yuvraj, and in the series you mention Dravid went to open to accomodate Yuseless in the middle order. Tendulkar at his age is far fitter than most of these youngsters. So is Dravid. Heck, Ganguly in his last year of int'l cricket still had more tenacity and sheer guts to fight in a game than some of these kids do. Unfortunately the Porkys, Rainas and other coddled youngsters these days get the glamour and big paycheques handed on a platter after one decent knock and then ease off. No wonder the next generation is going into the Pakistani territory of arrogant, undedicated players who are more likely to hit a bar after hours rather than pulling a Dravid or Ganguly and working tirelessly on their strokeplay or other aspects of their cricket.

exactly and thats why Aussies are doing so well. They are disciplined and dont take their spot for granted. look at M Hussey, he would have been out had he not made a come back after flopping in a series or 2. Look at the watson, how many times did he get injured but he kept hitting the gym and trying, even after injuries he hasnt lost his pace , his fielding is good and so isrunning between the wickes. Then we have Munnabhai , who came into the side as the phaastest Indian and now we know where he is , same with I sharma and Irfan Pathan

Yup. A lot of the younger Aussie cricketers grew up with some amazing role models for discipline and dedication. You had the likes of Border, Steve Waugh (who played an innings with a hole torn in his calf muscle), Justin Langer, Glenn McGrath and co - and even if the skill levels of guys like Hussey/Watson/White/Johnson/etc are not up there with the aforementioned, the dedication and heart certainly is there. With this lot... it's truly tragic. They came into the side with a similar culture being fostered by equally dedicated and passionate seniors, yet nothing rubbed off.

^ IMO our players just want to play as many games as possible to make the max money that they can. I cant think of any other reason for dropping pace or playing with injuries

One Gary's report is in BCCI hands and Media too keeps the pressure up, I hope BCCI will be forced to cleanse the team of rotting players.. Months ago I had said that many players in the Indian team always look forward to a trip to Caribbean because that's thep lace to Party and have a good holiday.

No sir, nothing permanent will happen. If you look up the news items after the 2007 WC, you'll find the same sort of things that you are seeing now, incl the partying part. At the time, BCCI came up with a long list of commandments for the players. Can't remember the details now but pretty much nothing was followed.

Team India not involved in any brawl: Pub owner NO PUB brawl its a hyped news from media.

Rubbishing reports of some Indian players having been involved in a pub brawl after their loss to Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup, Tequila Joe's owner said that no member of the Indian cricket team was involved in any sort of a brawl. Some false reports in the media had earlier claimed that six Indian players were involved in a brawl with fans in a pub at St Lucia. According to those reports six Indian players went to a local pub, Tequila Joe's, on Wednesday night where fans started taunting and abusing them which resulted in a confrontation after the team's failure to reach the semifinal of the Twenty20 World Cup. TIMES NOW was the only channel which did not resort to any false reporting on the story on Thursday and speaking exclusively to TIMES NOW owner of the pub too has dismissed the reports. Ulrich Augustine said, "No Indian player was involved in any sort of a brawl. On the contrary, they were all having a good time and enjoying the food. I was there all night and there was no fight what so ever. Nothing transpired that night and infact we had all the teams come to our bar. The atmosphere has been full of fun and the players are having a good time here."
