Naxals blow up bus near Dantewada, 33 killed NDTV Correspondent, Monday May 17, 2010, Dantewada, Chhattisgarh Naxalites have blown up a civilian bus at Chingawaram on the Dantewada-Sukma road in Chhattisgarh. There are confirmed reports that 33 people have died, but the toll may rise. The bus was carrying passengers from Sukma to Dantewada. There were 50 people, including 15 special police officers (SPOs) on the bus, reports said. A Ministry of Home Affairs spokesman said there was no Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel on the bus. Most of those killed were civilians, the spokesman said. Seven injured people have been taken to hospital in critical condition. Intelligence sources confirm 33 deaths. But the toll may be higher. Special DG V Raman had said earlier: "I fear at least 50 dead, we are checking." Information is hard to access in this Naxal-infested area. There are dense forests and nightfall shall make rescue operations even more difficult with landmines spotting the area. Sources said the SPOs on the bus were part of an operation launched two days ago. Two Maoists had been killed in the operation, but the local commander, Ganesh, had escaped. After finishing the operation, most of those involved were walking back, but 15 of them boarded the bus near Gadiras. Maoists reportedly observed them at the bus stand and passed on the information. Sources said this pointed to the swift and effective intelligence and communication network of the Naxals. SPOs are mostly local people recruited to fight the Maoists and have emerged as the biggest threat to them. This is the first such attack on a civilian passenger bus. But only six weeks ago, Dantewada had witnessed the worst-ever massacre of 75 CRPF jawans and one policeman in a Naxal ambush. (Read: 76 jawans killed in Naxal attack) The Ministry of Home Affairs called a meeting in Delhi and condemned the attack. Speaking to NDTV exclusively after the attack, Home Minister P Chidambaram said: "Naxals don't discriminate, only kill." He said there is need to revisit tactical operations against the Maoists.

Well no one is pointing fingers at Pakistan for this mate..so chill...What do you mean by a hush up? Nazalism is at the center of a huge debate in India on strategies to tackle naxalism. It is an internal threat and our govt has realised it..Its your govt thats blaming others for all their ills, Pakistan taliban is a RAw, CIA and Mossad conspiracy etc etc.....Well I dont wanna derail the thread, so lets leave it at that..

The fact of the matter is u shall hear of more such incidents because the govt does not see the Army & Air Force as a solution to it, and rightly so. More importantly, the answer to this issue is well known i.e. deal with the maoists with violence but provide opportunities to the people in the affected areas to ensure the grievances are answered. Thats that; now how shall we deal with JeM, LeT and other 'freedom fighters' like Kasab :wall:

Fortunately that "internal threat" is not financed and supported by a neighboring country
