Is IPL one of the reasons for India's dismal performance in World T20, 2010?

IPL is an easy target. How about critics establish a firm causal link between that wretched league and our listless show in T20Is.
+1 why are we looking for superficial targets here because some of our players suck really bad in T20?

^why does it not injure foreign players?? Dirk Nannes, Warner, Gayle, Jayawardane, Malingas?? can you answer that? If it tires our players and makes them fit, its not IPLs fault its their fault.
For starters very few foreign players play the entire season either due to availability or due to selection. Nannes and Warner don't play any other format besides T20. Malinga plays only T20s and ODIs. Sri Lanka don't play much overall cricket compared to India anyways. South Africa were knocked out as well with all the IPL players like Smith, Kallis, Steyn, Gibbs, De Villiers having ordinary tournaments. Collingwood is having an ordinary tournament and did no play much in IPL anyways. Pietersen played a handful of games. Ditto White and Hussey. You say the fitness of our players is not good - when do you expect the likes of Dhoni, Ishant, Yuvraj, Zaheer, Harbhajan, Gambhir, Sehwag who are involved in playing all formats throughout the year to work and rest their bodies to become fully fit?

- lots of worthless glitz and glamour from sh/t-faced ballywood hijdas which make cricketers complacent and less professional in preparation but despite all this IPL will continue to survive because it makes loads of money and the gand00s in the indian public keep supporting it by packing stadiums

I just gave you few examples of foreign players. They played alongside indians and their performance level has not gone down. Again problem with the players not with the IPL. they should have their priorities right. If they are injured, they don't need to play IPL. Its not IPL's fault that Sehwag does not opt to rest. Johnson gave it a miss as he knows its priority.

And I already illustrated the difference between foreign and Indian players - foreign players are either T20 specialists or don't play the entire season due to selection or other international matches. The only ones who did were South Africans who sucked in WC, and Sri Lankans whose international workload is not comparable to Indians.

Then despite following IPL you don't know IPL I guess! The franchises and BCCI which have invested millions into these icon players will let them rest - yeah right, I believe you.

Not all. Vettori plays non stop. Infact he came directly from nzland after finishing series with Australia and into IPL and then to world cup. Ditto Mike Hussey, Watson. >Then despite following IPL you don't know IPL I guess! The franchises and BCCI which have invested millions into these icon players will let them rest - yeah right, I believe you. First of all I haven't followed IPL this season, just game here and there. I don't like it myself. You are saying because of lot of money involved franchise will not allow their icon players to rest. I thought franchises would want play their Best XI and atleast reach semis. So if icon player is not fully fit, how can they force him to play??

If they are injured, there is no choice. But they are not going to let them rest after paying millions for them so they can keep themselves fit for international matches. I don't think most franchises are even bothered about reaching the semis etc. as long as they are making money and having star players is going to earn them more of it, even if they are exhausted and drained. Anyways, even tired icon players are going to be 10 times better than the domestic trash that is going to replace them.

It's a cop out. Wonder what's the excuse for us sucking in CTs of late despite being pretty decent in bilateral and even tri-series ODIs? And in T20s we've been sucking even in bilateral ones and those after pretty good ODI series, with no IPL effect.

^wrong. You are only stuck at icon players. Lets see, Laxman icon player for chargers, did not figure in many games. Surely franchise lost lot of money? They would have played him, he was fully fit, but they didn't, may be they wanted to reach semis?? No?? What are other icon players 1) Tendulkar, well he knew he will hae long rest, so we cna excuse him, ditto Rahul Dravid and Ganguly, now we are left with Sehwag, Yuvraj and Dhoni. Sehwag and Yuvraj both were unfit, Yuvraj had genuine injury but could have opted out.

This thread was bumped by Sachinism to suggest that we've crashed out of T20 world cup because of IPL. The only relevant point raised against IPL so far has been that it might tire out our players. Dhoni has already ruled it out. What's the fuss about?
Will Dhoni say anything after Kirsten was made to shut up by the BCCI babus last year? Kirsten clearly said last year that IPL was partly responsible for our early exit. Does the coach not know anything about his team? Circumstances are similar this year, but he won't say anything obviously because he wants to keep his job.

Laxman is not an icon player. He was bought for around $350,000.

By icon I did not necessarily mean icon by IPL definition. Add some of the big guns to Sehwag, Yuvraj, and Dhoni like Gambhir, Harbhajan, Ishant(till recent),and Zaheer who figure in all cricket and you've got more than half the Indian team.

NO Laxman was icon player, he gave up his icon position by himself. Remmeber he was captain in first edition then they were last :haha::haha::haha: you also mentioned injured icon player is better than domestic *****. Surely Laxman is better than few of the players Deccan tried. So your argument that franchise will go to whatever length to make sure their big players player even though not fully fit goes out of the window. Franchise knows no one follows losing team. They want their best XI, don't they spend millions on some players. The thing is you are blaming IPL for our failures in T20. It does not make sense to me. We failed due to our weaknesses. We failed because we were unprepared. Our captain opted to field first so that opposition bowlers do not bowl on fresh wickets and made sure he started with spinners. The reason we lost was we were sissies. IPL should have been great practice for our players.

I don't think Kirsten was asked to shut up' date=' BCCI babus expressed their disagreement. Dhoni will certainly blame the IPL workload if that helps to acquit himself from this fiasco. All the firangs in IPL did the same amount of travelling and partying, they're doing well. Playing a few matches less than their Indian counterparts doesn't leave them fresher. As Yoda said, blaming IPL is a cop out.[/quote'] http://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/15857/ I've already highlighted the difference between foreign and Indian players in my earlier posts mainly to do with : 1. Teams like New Zealand and Sri Lanka playing much less international cricket than India 2. South Africa crashing out like India with all IPL players under performing. 3. A lot of foreign players not playing entire season for various reasons like joining mid way or not being selected 4. A lot of foreign players being T20 and ODI specialists. After you filter these out, you will be left with 2-3 players at the most who played majority of the IPL season and did well.

He was captain, but he gave up his icon position even before the auction so that the franchise could bid for more expensive players. I am certain about this, you can google and check if you want.

Are you comparing Laxman's popularity with someone like Yuvraj, Tendulkar, Dhoni? Try to see the context before you start typing whatever!

It's not about just losing - we've lost every single Super 8 match for two consecutive years. We have one just one match against a major team in 2 full editions of the tournament. Anyhow, I've already given the reasons I feel IPL is harming Indian cricket. You don't see them today, hopefully you will see them a few years later. Till then keep on banking your hopes on IPL to act as great practice for players.

you know wht the funny thing is ???????? all the players that did well in the ipl didnt even make to the indian squad. i mean whats the point of having domestic t20 competition if you aren't going to use it as selection criteria for the t20 world cup. what PURPOSE does ipl serve? all the top indian batsmen in this ipl were guys that didnt make the squad - uthappa, rayudu, ganguly, tiwary. why not pick them all the top bowlers were ojha, irfan, mishra, ashwin, none of them made it. ridiculous. they picked jadeja instead. well done indian selectors and well done indian public for accepting this IPL serves no purpose except making money and bringing cheap publicity to ballywood hijdas before they release their next flop films.

1) Again wrong. Newzealand players were playing non stop cricket before IPL so they have been playing as much as we did. 2) Totally wrong, what players can you name them?? As far as I know, AB Devillers, AB Morkel, Steyn etc did fairly well. 3) Whatever, lot of them were with the team all through out. 4) That applies to india too, some of the players don't play test and ODIs, like Chawla, Murali, Rohit Sharma, Pathan to some extent, even they are T20 specialist. LOL at Shwetabh.
