No offense but I am also getting pissed off with IPL now and that too for such huge 50 or 94 matches tourney .. I agree that it is filling up BCCI's coffers but what is the benefit of making money if you cannot invest properly in the grassroot development of cricket in India .. we are not producing any quality bowlers and our bowling is turning crappier day in and day out .. the quality of our batsmen have also decreased .. they are turning FTBs rather than good batsmen like Sachin or Dravid .. I am fecked up with IPL as of now .. if you are making money but not developing cricket then I dont see any benefit of making money .. after the IPL started we have played two T20 WC and there have been two Super-8 exits .. so it does not seem to help in our improvement in T20 either ... it is instead helping the four foreign players .. Stop this IPL for two years and you will see the difference in the commitment of some of the players. They will try harder to get into the indian team because there will be no alternative like IPL. Now it seems some of the players don't even give a feck about Indian team and Zim Tri series is an example of that. We should try to respect each team and send our best possible team to crush them. For me IPL tamasha is over. Modi and his lovers can go make love with each other.

lot of these players did nt do well in IPL and were nt in form or at gud fitness level, bt still they were picked....this is selectors defeat rather than players..whn u pick chawla and Jadeja who wasnt even playing for long, there werent many options for captain to choose from, vinay kumar i dnt think would have done anything special, bt would not have done worse than Jadeja, Zaheer khan was so difficult to hit in IPL, looked toothless here, gambhir was injurd and out of form....playing 2 bits and pieces players like YKP and Jadeja was crime coz both are niether reliable not proven match winner with bat or ball at international level

IPL is good but the selection policy is wrong..If you shortlist and select players based on their performance in Ranji and Duleep trophies for T20 WC, select players on zonal and regional quota basis and based on their hype and reputation in other formats, the team will suck..

No the problem is that we take international t20s seriously. It's not a format cut out for serious rivalry based on national rivalries due to it's nature of being basically a lottery. Where else can you find a nation, crowned as world champions just 10 months back staring at a second sound exit in ignominy and vice versa? For me that doesn't reflect the much lauded 'inherent uncertain nature of the game' but just the hit or miss aspect of this format. Because otherwise one'll have to believe teams underwent impossible transitions in 10 months. So lets keep tamasha to where it belong, and cricket to where it should. IPL marries both to some enjoyable mixture but it doesn't change the fact it's still cricketainment. It also spares the players burning effigy-stoning houses routine. International cricket is too big to be trivialised on mickey mouse cricket.

The eligibility criteria is simple, a batting average of minimum 25, a strike rate above 120 and at least one fifty in IPL. This gave me 16 batsmen of which eight are in the squad. I tried to pick the batsmen based on strike rate. On ranking them by this measure, I found that we have four "bad"/biased selections. The players who should have been chosen, for the original squad, are

1. Uthappa
2. M Vijay
3. I Pathan
4. Rayudu

and those who shouldn't have made it are . . .

1. Dhoni
2. Sharma
3. Gambhir
4. Yuvraj

and Yuvraj who doesn't even make the cut as per the eligibility criteria. :-) Then I thought maybe some people want to give more weightage to averages since already have a minimum strike rate. This is what I got after ranking the eligible players by average. . . The number of "errors" by selectors as per this criteria goes up to five ! IN

Dirk Nannes bowled non stop in IPL, he is still performing in T20. Warner played most of the games. He is performing. White was there too and he is doing well. Jayawardane played entier IPL, he is doing well Sanga played IPL, he did well. if IPL was cause for our T20 performances, then its ridiculous, because if you play IPL non step, you in t20 mould, and we sucked in T20. Atleast IPL should make sure we do well in T20 cups, but even thats not happening. The problem is our fitness levels.

The Indian coach is on record saying IPL has effected performances, before being shut up by the BCCI. There are hazaar other reasons which have been mentioned time and again about how IPL has been detrimental to Indian cricket, but those with gold dust in their eyes obviously won't see it. It might be here to stay, but so is China in Tibet.

Why IPL is hurting only Indian cricket whereas players from other countries, who performed well at IPL are continuing to do so?

^yes you can't blame IPL can you. Its players who are playing. some of big names in IPL are doing fine for their respective countries. the thing is we are ranked 8 (after this for sure) in T20, 2nd in ODI and 1st Test. If IPL was the big problem, we should have atleast reached semis, and drop our ranking in ODi and tests. T20 is hit and miss game, you need to focus great deal. Our players have fitness issues, which they have to sort themselves.

Malinga and Zak both played all the IPL games for Mumbai side by side but look at the contrast in their performances in the World T20. The IPL has its benefits and negatives but inherent T20 ability is not made or destroyed by it. All of our bowlers suck at T20 cricket.
