The Outsider Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Learning by rote A lot of criticisms can be leveled against the IIT entrance examination ranging from questions on subject matters not ideally covered in 12th standard to the sole emphasis on Math, Physics, and Chemistry. However, learning by rote would come down pretty low on that list. Majority of the examination tests problem solving, specially the Physics part. The Chemistry portion has significant emphasis on the learning by rote aspect, but that holds true in Chemistry even at graduate level examinations to an extent. The worst is the manner in which the Math portion is designed, with half the problems involving a 'trick' solution rather than analytical reasoning.

Our students have got about 70 of top 100 ranks and 7 out of top 10 . IIT entrance coaching is a full fledged corporate industry here. It also helps that our middle castes give utmost importance to education. For example the IIT topper is from Reddy community :winky:.
