Yuvraj's century for Air India in vain NEW DELHI: Yuvraj Singh's explosive century went in vain as Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) defeated Air India by five wickets to lift the title in the Goswami Ganesh Dutt memorial cricket tournament at the St. Stephen's College ground here on Sunday. After being put in to bat, Air India was in a precarious position with four wickets down for 21 runs at one stage. New ball bowler Sumit Narwal (three for 34) did most of the damage with his disciplined performance. However, an unperturbed Yuvraj played his trademark strokes and scored a brilliant 146 off just 110 balls. He smashed 13 fours and seven sixes during his stay in the middle and forged a 223-run partnership with Deepak Joon (81 not out, 95b, 6x4, 2x6) to help Air India post a total of 263 for five. In reply, ONGC rode on Mithun Manhas's breezy 93 (75b, 9x4, 3x6) to achieve the target. While Yuvraj was named the ‘man of the match' and the ‘best all-rounder,' Manhas was adjudged the ‘man of the tournament.' Other players to be awarded for their individual showing were Narwal (best bowler), Joon (best batsman) and Dhruv Shorey of DDCA President's XI (best upcoming player). The scores: Air India 263 for five in 40 overs (Yuvraj Singh 146, Deepak Joon 81 not out, Sumit Narwal three for 34) lost to ONGC 266 for five in 37.4 overs (Mithun Manhas 93, R.S. Gupta 45, Ajay Ratra 36 not out, Sumit Narwal 36 not out, Sachin Rana three for 38) .
IKnowU Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 surprise surprise......when he gets his asss handed to him. He comes up with such performances. Pure show of selfishnesss and arrogance when he plays for Team India.
b555 Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 its like students studying only the night before the exam , this guy peforming only when his ass is under fire
saneindian Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Yuvi has lost some weight, but still needs to do more training to knock off the fat. BTW good going for him, needs to continue training hard and playing whatever club cricket he can play.
