i hope UV's axing is only a shock treatment.he still remains a vital cog in our WC hopes n should walk in if he gets in reasonable shape before the WC one man that needs to be fired is that Nitin Patel.one cant blame the players alone for fitness when BCCI hasnt apponted a proper physical trainer after Gregory Allen King.we need a proper traiiner to get the players back into shape.its not only UV whos gone out of shape n they havent selected a reserve WK:wall:another proof Cheeka has no idea how to select a team

Well, can we send a replacement if dhoni is injured for the rest of the series?

For the ODI series in sub continent o for home series' date=' they generally don't pick a reserve keeper.[/quote'] Also Karthik stays in Chennai. Hardly an hour's journey from Chennai to Colombo :giggle:

Ok, I do agree with the WK as it is a risk but we will only know at the end if the risk to get a better batsman instead on a WK was a good decision. Other than that, again fail to understand the need for IP, you first say he is not a good bowler but than you still believe he will do better than our part timers. And I do believe that we will play 4 bowlers + jadeja so I doubt there is any need for him. His batting is only a bonus and if our batsman do well, there will be no need for his batting.
The point is that one should select the team with proper balance, which includes picking the reserve WK. If we have to judge what a good decision is based on hindsight then why not just pick the playing 11 and pick those who are good fielders as reserves as they can be useful as substitutes. If a player in the playing 11 doesn't get injured then that selection by selectors would be a good decision. Ofc we don't do that and thus the need to pick extra bowlers, bat and WK. What's so hard to understand that I think that IP will bowl better than part-timers? It as if you are implying that one has to bowl exceptionally well to bowl better than our part-timers. Also you have to understand that IP is being used as the 3rd seamer, where as we don't have part timers who can be used as seamers. And why IP is being used as the 3rd seamer is because I think it's necessary to go in with 3 seamers considering the options for bowling during 20 PP overs and at the death. Playing IP as the 3rd seamer allows us to play 2 specialist spinners, who are amongst our better bowlers. In short, I am picking IP to play Robin Singh kind of role :winky:

In short' date=' I am picking IP to play Robin Singh kind of role :winky:[/quote'] Woeful are our times when we're looking for players to play 'Robin Singh' kindof role.. ...when Scientists are still trying to understand why he was in our team for so long..

What the heck? Jadeja is there?:(( ,paks and lankans might have started celebration. BTW Sachin needs more rest, why?

That's lame really! Agreed he was a bits n pieces player but his wholehearted dedication for the team's cause was second to none. Be it bowling, batting or fielding, he was hundred percent commited that too with limited ability. Even at the age of 37 he was one of the fittest players in our team and the second best fielder after A.Jadeja. How many players from the present generation can be put in a category where they value team's success more than the individual performance? :-(

Yusuf Pathan' date=' an exceptional striker of ball, no wonder logically he is dominating international attacks winning matches for India single handedly.[/quote'] he is at best a halfbaked batsman. shaky basics, and a more limited player compared to a proepr batsman. cannot be compared to yuvraj or uthappa.they are the exceptional strikers of the ball.

You don't score First Class hundreds against Lee' date=' Johnson, Clark, and Siddle in 140 deliveries without having a range of proper cricketing shots.[/quote'] let's stick to the shorters forms of the game. test cricket can wait for a while.(i don't care about that pratcise game anyway for reasons i had mentioend previouly) raina had two fifties against both aus and SA in one dayers. he also followed it up with a hundred in the t20. you also saw the authority rohit showed vs australia on a hostile pitch. why has not kohli played such knocks? even at less than international level IPL? That would not have come without 1.better ability to strike the ball. 2. increase in range of shots. 3. better maturity all over a process of 4 years. while i have seen raina and rohit improve over the years with more explosive knocks, i am yet to see kohli play a knock that has a stamp of authority. for example whenever bangalore faced huge targets, kohli repeatedly failed when the onus was on him to dominate. there was only one explosive knock against DC. but that's my point. to have a consistent ability to dominate, you have to strike the ball exceptionally with proper shots.you shud have a range of shots under your bag. i am against kohli and ALL under 23 yr olds for the same reason. they would not have developed this game within 2 years of being u19's . its ridiculous to expect kohli/jadeja/tiwary to dominate internaitonal an attack in time for the 2011 world cup. they have to develop their game to be atleast "junior matchwinner" level .it will take more than a year.

I think R.Jadeja fits that description better than Yusuf Pathan as it is Jadeja who is a far more limited player than Yusuf..This is where Gary K has to step in and improve his technique against the short pitch deliveries. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are talented strokeplayers, but not half as good as Y.P in clearing the ropes

Kohli has just started his ODI career.hes yet to play top teams on consistent basis.hes got all the shots.n his record is far better than Rohit.infact if i am not wrong ,his aggregate is more than Rohit in half no. of games. n at a better S/R too.so much for complete game

hes got all the shots.
then where are they? i am searching everywhere for them. where are his explosive knocks?

does not mean a thing.neither are a true reflection of both players.i can write an essay on why it is pointless and ignorant lookin at records of junior players. that's for another time.i don't care a damn about their so called record because it does not give you the complete insight about their games. for the umpteenth time , performing against kulasekara and co in conditions of dew is not the same as facing tait and co at kensignton oval. all that kohli has shown is he can nudge singlesand two's in solid knocks vs kulasekara and fernando. against the stronger attacks, kohli has one highly scratchy fifty ina dead rubber. so much for his "record". hell kohli has not even shown he can dominate in IPL.leave alone internationals.

Kohli didnt play in that Barbados game.is that his fault.even Gambhir failed there,so Rohit>GG? as i said hes not faced top teams, give him time,he'll do well once he faces them.he got that ton in that practice game but u r not taking that. dominating is not everything.u gotto be consistent too.Laxman doesnt play big shots, nor does Dravid,so wat?even Dravid hasnt dominated in IPL,so wat does that mean? why is Rohit's S/R in below 80 if hes got all the shows n can dominate anyway,i would much rather take a consistent player than one who dominates in one innings n sucks in next 10-15

it may seem that way because jadeja is a good five years or so junior and raw. its plain wrong to compare a 20 yr old with 25 + something. also that y pathan is not a proper specilaist batsmen would be evident the first time a trained eye sees him..
irat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are talented strokeplayers, but not half as good as Y.P in clearing the ropes
it takes time for players to refine their timing. for example the yuvraj that holed out in the 2003 WC final is a far cry from the yuvraj hat dismantled broad in 2007. ganguly who was struggling to score on the leg side in the 1996 titan cup ,was thrashing pollock and ntini in SA in 2001. things change as the player matures. that's why i am arguing for older players. the younger players would not have the same timing or refinement . specialist batsmen are more complete, reliable players over a period of time. they can play the matchwinning knocks way more consistently than even the best allrounders. certainly a specialist anyday over y pathan who will have much fewer days of glory.
