Dhawan, Pandey, Tiwary have all wasted opportunities on this tour. Bowling looks compltelly harmless, batsmen are unable to kick on after getting a start. Maybe the selecors missed a trick by sending a team of rookies, having a few guys who have already played for the national side could have helped.

I don't think Tiwari will get any chance in other A tours now. We wasted a good talent by not grooming him when he was really booming with confidence and taking on international class bowlers fearlessly. What is the point in choosing him now when so many doubts have creeped in because of uncertainty? Why can't the selectors choose a second XI Indian team every year and make them play with third XI if any A tour doesn't materialise? And why will an A tour not materialise if the intent is there? SL A tours are regularly happening. Last year they had gone to SA and this year they've gone to Australia. As for India A's bowling, it'll look harmless on flat tracks as Unadkat has not even started his domestic season, Mithun has played in just one season and I suppose Tyagi is not as good as we had the impression, even if he bowls at 140ks fairly regularly. These bowlers are strengthening their basics rightly, before learning the other tricks of the trade. So India A is out of the triseries now as they do not have any chance to reach the final. But results are not as important here as consistently good individual performances are. I think only Pujara reasserted that can be consistently good. Everyone else has failed.

England Lions beat India A to maintain winning run England Lions made it two wins out of two in the triangular one-day series after a five-wicket win over India A. More... England Lions beat India A to maintain winning run Glorious homecoming for Stevens 1 July 2010 pa-8990819-919351.jpgDarren Stevens led England Lions to a five-wicket win over India A in the Triangular Series by scoring 58 not out Darren Stevens hit an unbeaten 58 at his old ground to help England Lions chalk up successive wins in the Triangular Series with a five-wicket victory against India A at Grace Road. Stevens, who was born in Leicester and played for the county for seven years from 1997 until moving to Kent, put on an unbroken 90-run stand with room-mate Peter Trego to see the Lions home with 27 balls remaining. Chasing 255 to win, Lions openers Andrew Gale, promoted up the order with Alastair Cook unable to lead the side due to a back injury, and Steven Davies gave the innings some early impetus with an entertaining stand worth 38 at better than a run a ball. Both looked in fine touch with Davies unfurling some typically stylish drives and Gale launching Abhimanyu Mithun for a huge six over midwicket which prompted a spectator to blow hard on his vuvuzela. But the pair soon fell in similar fashion, caught behind attempting loose drives off Dhawal Kulkarni as England Lions slipped to 47 for two in the eighth over. Jonathan Trott, a centurion in Tuesday's win over West Indies A, seemed intent on another big score but having reached 22 he edged the lively Jaskaran Singh behind where Wriddhiman Saha took his third catch of the innings. Like the three Lions who perished before him, Ian Bell was guilty of wasting a start. Successive boundaries off Manoj Tiwary - the second an audacious reverse sweep - suggested the Warwickshire man would lead the chase but he was visably disgrunted after chipping the same bowler straight to cover. At 114 for four there might have been a few jitters in the England Lions dressing room but Ravi Bopara soothed any nerves with a handful of silky boundaries. However, after bossing a fifty partnership with Stevens, Bopara misjudged a sweep and was given out lbw to Tiwary. Trego joined Stevens with the game in the balance - England Lions needing 90 from 19 overs - but the pair scampered between the wickets to keep the scoreboard ticking over. The aggressive Trego in particular, was quick to capitalise on anything loose and two successive sixes in the 35th over bowled by Iqbal Abdulla pushed the Lions towards the finishing post. Stevens, despite being struck on the foot, was calm and composed and brought up his fifty off 71 balls, with a sweetly timed drive over extra cover. That was only his third boundary and his fourth, a clip off the pads, sealed victory in the following over. Earlier in the day, stand-in skipper Gale won the toss and elected to bowl first on a wicket that did not offer much to the new-ball pairing of Sajid Mahmood and Ajmal Shahzad. The much-improved Mahmood rediscovered his accuracy after a mauling by West Indies A two days previously, but Shahzad was slightly wayward early-on and got punished by Abhinav Mukund who hit the Yorkshire bowler for successive boundaries to get the scoreboard moving. Shikhar Dhawan clipped and drove boundaries off Liam Plunkett's first over as the India A openers rattled along at five an over in a 54-run stand. Peter Trego provided a much-needed breakthrough in the 11th over with just his second delivery, tempting Dhawan to drive to Gale who took an excellent catch tumbling forward. ravibopara-920161.jpgRavi Bopara was the pick of England Lions' attack with 3-32 from 10 overs as India A were dismissed for 254 The Lions did not have to wait long for another wicket as Plunkett soon found Ajinkya Rahane's outside edge with a leaping Steven Davies completing the dismissal. The wicket brought captain Cheteshwar Pujara to the crease. The elegant right-hander averages more than 60 in first-class cricket with a highest score of 302 not out, and he did not take long so show his pedigree with a delightful straight drive off Shahzad. The India A skipper took three boundaries from Trego but fortunately for England Lions none of his team-mates could hang around long enough to forge a substantial partnership. Ravi Bopara, in a rich vein of form with the ball, tore the heart out of the batting line-up with three quick wickets as India A stuttered to 145 for five after 31 overs. Mukund, who became bogged down, chipped straight to James Tredwell at cover, Manoj Tiwary then played on and Manish Pandey become Bopara's third victim when he lobbed a catch to Gale. Wriddhiman Saha, who holds the squad's only Test cap, announced himself with a towering six off Tredwell, one of two maximums during an entertaining 35 which gave the innings more than a gentle nudge. After a 69-run stand which took India A to 214 for five, the returning Shahzad picked up three wickets in 11 balls including a beauty to dismiss Pujara, who nicked a rising ball to Davies having made 73. Mahmood collected the last two wickets in the final over to fall to finish with 2-37.

More... Pujara shines but India A lose to England Lions by 5 wickets July 02, 2010 Skipper Cheteshwar Pujara's well-made 73 went in vain as India A succumbed to a five-wicket defeat against England Lions in the Triangular series at Grace Road, Leicester. Put into bat, Pujara was the lone sparkle in India A's batting line-up, whose middle order failed miserably to ultimately skittle out for 254 in 49.3 overs. Chasing the target, Darren Stevens (58 n.o.) and Peter Trego (48 n.o.) shared a 90-run partnership as the Lions eased home with 26 balls to spare. Earlier, Andrew Gale replaced Alastair Cook as captain after the England and Essex opener was withdrawn from the match as he was suffering from discomfort in his back. Gale won the toss and put India A in to bat on a wicket that did not offer much to the new ball pairing of Sajid Mahmood and Ajmal Shahzad. It was Somerset's Peter Trego who picked up the first wicket in the 11th over, tempting Shikhar Dhawan (24) to drive one straight to Gale. Ajinkya Rahane also departed quickly but Pujara stemmed the rot with a defiant 73 but was unable to find much support from his middle order with Ravi Bopara and Ajmal Shahzad both claiming three wickets apiece. Chasing 255 to win, Gale (29) opened the batting with wicketkeeper Steven Davies (18), who was the first wicket to fall, followed by his skipper nine runs later. After Jonathan Trott (22), Ian Bell (31) and Bopara (41) pushed England Lions to 165-5, the game was very much in the balance but then Trego joined hands with Stevens to take the game away from the Indians. Stevens brought up his 50 off 71 balls while Trego displayed some typically aggressive batting, which included two successive sixes off left-arm spinner Iqbal Abdulla in the 35th over. India A will next face West Indies A for the second time at Grace Road.

1st half ton from Dhawan after the first match in the tour against Yorkshire XI at Leeds. He was dismissed on 59 today. Indian XI: A Mukund S Dhawan AM Rahane CA Pujara* WP Saha†, MK Tiwary, MK Pandey, Iqbal Abdulla, DS Kulkarni, A Mithun, Jaskaran Singh So no Unadkat or Tyagi once again. It seems both of them are injured. Such fragile pace bowlers can't be the future of Indian team. India A is 237/2 in 38.3 overs. But they are already out of final so WI A must be using it only as a practice match.

Naah , if we win the next two games well, we still have a chance. Need to ensure we get to 325-330 from here on, 270/3 in 42 overs, scoring 50-60 runs in next 8 overs should be possible.

100 for Pujara. 108* in 85 balls, from a batsman who has a reputation of being a stonewaller!!fantastic knock from him. What a series he has had. Will get increasingly difficult to deny him a spot in the national side. Well done Pujara. India A, 315/5 in 47 overs. Can we get to 350 somehow.
