Younus left out for England tour Younus was in the provisional squad but failed to make the final cut Pakistan have left former captain Younus Khan out of their squad for Test series against England and Australia. Younus recently won an appeal against an indefinite ban from international cricket imposed after an inquiry into the winter tour to Australia. But the selectors have instead recalled Yasir Hameed, also 32, who last played Test cricket in December 2007. There are also places for uncapped Azhar Ali, Umar Amin, Wahab Riaz and Tanvir Ahmed. Opening batsman Azhar and seam bowler Tanvir are new to international cricket, but Amin and Riaz have both appeared in limited overs internationals. Pakistan play their first tour match against an MCC side including former West Indies skipper Brian Lara at Lord's next Sunday. They then have four warm-up games against county opposition before taking on Australia in two Twenty20 internationals and two Tests being staged on neutral territory in England because of ongoing concerns about the security of teams touring Pakistan. After that, they will then embark on four Tests against England before concluding the tour with two more T20 matches and five limited overs internationals. The absence of Younus from the 17-man squad is a surprise as he averages over 50 in Tests and hit 173 against England at Headingley during Pakistan's last tour in 2006. There is no place either for Shoaib Akhtar, once the fastest bowler in world cricket, although he will be part of the Twenty20 squad. Pakistan's pace attack will instead be led by the Mohammad Asif, the youthful Mohammad Amir and Umar Gul, who is returning to international cricket after recovering from injury. They will be backed up by Tanvir, who has been given his first chance at the age of 31 after taking 399 first-class wickets at an average of 28 during his career and left-armer Riaz. Danish Kaneria and Saeed Ajmal provide the front-line slow bowling options, with skipper Shahid Afridi also likely to chip in with a few overs of leg-spin. Pakistan have a sorry Test record away from home in recent years, having lost nine of the 15 matches they have played since the tour to England four years ago and won only two. Their most experienced batsman in tests is Mr. Sania with a grand total of 29 tests and an avg of 36. He's never played a test in England before this tour. This is gonna be fun :cantstop:

All the batsmen from this team collectively average (only reputed batsmen considered) a whopping 36.3 2. In England, the batsmen of this team collectively average (only reputed batsmen considered) an astounding 19.96. Yes. 19.96. 3. This team has a collective 22 centuries so far. 4. In England, this team has a collective "0" centuries. 5. There is only one batsman in this team that averages above 40 and thats Umar Akmal. 6. After Umar, there is only one batsman in this team that averages above 35. Thats Shoaib Malik at 36.11. 7. Considering the above stats, one might assume that it's a very young team full of young players. But barring the debutants (who have not been considered for the stats above), this team's average career length is almost 8 years. The only player who has played for less than 7 years in Umar (again, barring debutants who have not been considered for the above stats). Note: Reputed batsmen considered for some of the stats above does not include debutants.

Younus dumping irks former Pakistan players KARACHI: Pakistani cricket veterans on Monday expressed anger that Younus Khan had been excluded from the squad bound for England, saying the former captain was being victimised. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has given no reason for excluding 33-year-old Younus from the 17—man Test squad announced in Sri Lanka on Sunday despite his indefinite ban for disciplinary offences being overturned. PCB chairman Ijaz Butt was last week quoted by local media as saying that Khan would require the board's clearance, which has apparently not been given. Younus was one of seven players banned and fined for disciplinary offences on the tours of United Arab Emirates, New Zealand and Australia. But the bans on Younus and Shoaib Malik were overturned by a one-man PCB arbitrator. Another former captain, Mohammad Yousuf, who retired in protest over the sanctions, did not appeal while all-rounder Rana Naved-ul-Hasan's appeal is pending. Former chief selector Iqbal Qasim said Younus was being punished for challenging his indefinite ban. “I feel Younus has been victimised,” Qasim said. “He fought his case and was outspoken against the treatment and was dropped,” said Qasim, who resigned from his post in February after Pakistan's disastrous tour of Australia. Pakistan on Sunday also announced a 15-man squad for the Twenty20 matches on the tour of England, which opens with two Twenty20 matches against Australia on July 5 and 6 before two Tests against the same opponents, also in England. Pakistan then plays four Tests, two Twenty20 and five one-day games against England on the tour which ends on September 22. The squad for the one-day games will be announced later. Qasim said Younus will be missed on a tough tour. “It's our batting which let us down, so we will definitely miss Younus, who is a big name when it comes to international cricket,” said Qasim. Former captain Rashid Latif said that, along with Younus, fast bowler Mohammad Sami and batsmen Faisal Iqbal and Khurrum Manzoor also deserved a place in the squad. “I respect the selection but four players _ Younus, Sami, Iqbal and Manzoor_ deserved places in the team,” said Latif.

The visitors made the most of an excellent batting track at the St Lawrence Ground by batting well into the final afternoon in reaching 264 for four before their acting captain, Salman Butt, declared to give his bowlers a gentle work out either side of tea. Facing a match deficit of 365, Kent openers Joe Denly (69) and Chris Piesley (43) showed good concentration by posting the county's maiden century first-wicket stand this season, but both fell to rash shots in the final half-hour. Denly swept across a quicker ball from Abdur Rehman to go leg before, while Piesley, when seven short of his maiden first-class 50, nicked behind off Shoaib Malik. Young all-rounder Alex Blake (28) then danced past one from the same bowler to be stumped. The sides shook hands on the draw soon after and for the tourists it was pretty much mission accomplished. Their only concern was the niggling side injury that left captain Shahid Afridi a virtual spectator over the three days. Pakistan coach Waqar Younis moved to play down the injury, saying: "Our physiotherapist has just arrived back from London with Shahid Afridi and the scan showed a small muscle rupture in his side. "He has been asked to rest for two days and have some treatment, then we will re-asses things, but we're hopeful he will be fine." Afridi went off the ground on the second day of match against Kent at Canterbury yesterday, clutching his back because of a side strain. Pakistan team manager Yawar Saeed said that although the injury does not look serious, precautionary scans had been done to know the exact cause of the back problem. "Off course, it does not appear to be anything serious but we just want to be sure, but he had proper practice with the boys in the morning and is keen on his cricket and forthcoming matches," Yawar said. However, Afridi, who is scheduled to make a return to five-day cricket on July 13 in the first Test against Australia at Lords for the first time since 2006, did not take the field on the final day of the tour match today. Afridi is one of the few remaining senior most players in the touring side after the selectors ignored former captain Younis Khan, Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Sami and Faisal Iqbal for the series while another ex-skipper Mohammad Yousuf has retired from international cricket. After the match against Kent, Pakistan also play Essex and Northamptonshire before playing Australia in two T20 Internationals on July 5 and 6 in Birmingham.
