Yeah and he was faster than Tait today. Akthar at almost 35 is still bowling faster than Tait who is 27 and some jokers here are comparing Tait with Akthar. Akhtar has played 46 test matches and has kept his pace over 150 km/hr all the time. Let Tait play 10 test matches and he will struggle to match even Irfan Pathan after that.

Tait didn't try to bowl quick intentionally.....he is saving himself for one day series and maybe he play tests also

Sort of mildly surprised to see Akhtar still hitting the speeds he hit yesterday. The dude's officially listed as 35, so he's probably 37-38, but still touched 95 mph, which is BRISK. But you could tell he gave it all yesterday. Its easy to go flat out knowing that you have to bowl only 4 overs in a day. And by the end of it all, he looked totally spent. He's obviously used the time away to lose some fat and condition his body. But for a professional athlete/fast bowler, Akhtar still looks awkwardly fat. Obviously, father time is catching up with him. When you see someone going FLAT-OUT just to go through 4 overs a day, you know that an injury is just round the corner. The true test of consistent pace is in the test matches where a fast bowler invariably bowls 17-18 overs a day. By that yardstick, Mitchell Johnson is probably the fastest bowler in the world. First session or the last session, sun or rain, his speeds are always there and thereabouts.

Thats true Gaurav, both of them are equally quick. But I've seen Johnson go through an entire test match day bowling in the 90 mph bracket. Most genuine quicks tend to degenerate into the late 85-87 mph bracket towards the end of the day. From an Indian perspective, watching guys like Tait, Akhtar, Aamer, Nannes, Johnson and Ryan Harris operate routinely in the 90 mph, it pains me to see that these guys' slower balls are some times as quick as our guys' top speeds. Its not that I am desperate to see our guys bowl quick, but I just stupefied as to how the initial promise that our guys show in terms of pace, sort of magically vaporizes into the air. :((
