Do you see Parthiv Patel playing for India again or even Vinay Kumar? How did they make the XI?
Parthiv made it at a time when there wasn't really anyone else about. He showed good potential. Vinay couldn't be ignored due the ridiculous amount of wickets he was taking. But Jadhav?? Hasn't done anything stand out and there are so many other batters out there who deserve selection before him

Actually' date=' I'm surprised to see Ajinkya Rahane making it to the XI, despite Robin Uthappa (assuming NDTV was right 2 months back that he's fit) and Ambati Rayudu being in the reckoning for an India cap. Abhishek Nayar deserved his place in this XI by being an all-rounder, if areas of strength are anything to go by.[/quote'] Uthappa and Nayar are injured and are doing their rehab at NCA alongwith Zaheer and RP Singh (Kohli and Rohit were there as well for some days). The biggest surprise is Irfan Pathan whose where abouts are not known. He is not at NCA, he is not at Baroda Cricket Assocition's academy (confirmed by Nayan Mongia who said Irfan hasn't visited BCA academy for the last 4-5 months), he is not visiting Kenya with the Baroda team for the tri series they are playing. Wonder what his plans are. The only he could have forced the seectors to pick him was by taking truckloads of wickets and scoring useful runs in matches where he can play come competitive cricket.

I don't think whatever he did 8 years ago has any relevance of how India wants him to emerge after a year or two. Parthiv was selected as a keeper of India in 2002. Should that be enough for him to be chosen as a skipper for Emerging Indian players' squad?

Vinay took that many wickets in FC cricket. This tournament is of 20 overs cricket and 50 overs cricket. If India thinks him to be an emerging player then he did a cracking job by getting whacked for 20 runs in his first 2 overs and from then taken off by the skipper.

So you've seen this thread for the first time. Didn't you know that Uthappa was NOT selected for this tournament and he isn't fit fully even now? As it has been mentioned numerous times on this board, whenever the topic of Rayudu or Abu Nachim has been raised, that BCCI won't be selecting ex ICL players for any tournament for one full year, which they'll complete when this current season starts. They might be available from October onwards, if BCCI officials do not get another brain fit!
NDTV 24x7 claimed that Robin Uthappa had been given a clean chit and was fit to play in the Zimbabwe tour. Given the stature of the channel, I doubt they'd bluff. As for Rayudu & Nachim, its really sad to see them not making the cut, given that they do have it in them to play for India.

Didn't know about Nayar. As for Irfan, I remember reading somewhere that he is recuperating from injury and hence, he's not in Kenya. Its about time he steps up and performs, before PK takes his place in all formats.

IIRC we had a similar discussion on Uthappa earlier as well. This is what CI wrote on 7th August. Uthappa is currently at the NCA taking tips from NCA fielding coach R Sridhar and former Karnataka wicketkeeper Somashekhar Shiruguppi. He will start batting at the nets after a week. http://www.cricinfo.com/india/content/current/story/471380.html This is what he tweeted on July 23rd Big day today :) :) I threw, kept and batted wit d cricket ball.My first since d IPL third place game:)if no set backs.wil b ready 4 CL :) 10:55 PM Jul 23rd via Twitter for BlackBerry® Go through his tweets to know exactly what has kept him away from active cricket. http://twitter.com/robbieu9

India won the second T20 by 102 runs against SA.

India scored 166 runs, Dhawan and Patel platel playing well again, and bundled out the saffied for just 64 runs with Unadkat being the chief wrecker once again taking for 4 for just 10 in 3 overs. Hope we get a good wicket taking bowler. Seems there was a lot of swing with an early morning start which Indians exploited well.

Unadkat and Dhawan continue their impressive form. Good to see Chawla picking some wickets as well. How I wish this Indian team could extend their stay in Australia and play a few 4 day matches against Australia A. Would be wonderful for the development of the likes of Dhawan, Rahane, Pujara, Pandey, Unadkat, Yadav etc.

Yes. Jaidev's fast-tracking should be an option worth considering. But we should still wait another 6 months to see how he performs before burdening him with the kind of expectations an Indian cap comes with. He is obviously a bowler for the future and I think they should work hard with him to help him hone his skills to turn into Zaheer Part-II someday. Dhawan can consider himself in the same league as Murali Karthik & S Badrinath for despite their performances, and some pretty stellar ones at that, they just can't seem to attract the selectors' attention. Its good that he's got an opportunity to play in this tournament and I hope he makes the most out of it.

Dhawan has been a little unlucky with his injuries. Every time he has done well in domestic cricket, he has pickd up and injury to be out of cricket for 3-4 months. That has been the story of his domestic career so far!! Plus he has never had the backing of the Delhi cricket association. Have never seen Sehwag and Gambhir talk about him or any of the officials promoting him either. As for Badri, well he did get picked for the Indian test team from 2007 onwards, got to play ODIs in 2008 and tests in 2010. Murali Kartik has had his chances but was never given a consistent run. And at 33-34 , it looks tough for him to make a comeback to the Indian team unless the selectors and the team management have a sudden change of heart.

I have been following Shikhar since his days as an U19 lad, who played in the U19 World Cup final. He was the most aggressive player in the entire tournament and his strike-rate was consistently above 130. He was also a better striker than Robin Uthappa (I believe they opened together) and his maturity has been on display too. I think a season with Dhoni's IPL team, whichever it may be, may help his cause as it would help MS judge first-hand Shikhar's potential and also boost his chances of getting the national cap. Badri, well, he needs to get a consistent run. We all know what he's capable of doing. I think he's a better prospect at replacing RD post judgement day, than Che Pujara. Murali Karthik is one of the best Chinaman in the world. Why he doesn't get picked is quite beyond all of us.

Naah thats not correct. Dhawan did have some attitude related issues in the past. He has been invovled in a few pub brawls as well, but over the years he has matured now and looks more focussed. The stint under Sachin at MI seems to have changed him. His talent was never in doubt, needs a few consistent performances and will be soon in the Indian team.

WTF,hes an orthodox left arm off spinner, not a chinaman about Shikhar,i've followed him too.his List A record is great.with both GG n Sachin out of the triangular,he should've been the perfect choice to partner Veeru.but Cheeka expects Karthik to do the job so much that he hasnt even picked a reserve opener:wall:

Are these matches being broadcast in Aus? I remember last year the main 50 over tournament was
