Ricky Ponting - the fastest to 12,000 runs?

The equation- Ponting currently on 11,954 test runs in 244 innings requires 46 runs in the next two innings to break Sachin's record of 247 innings. Interesting to note that Lara who finished on 11,954 runs in 232 innings would've needed just 46 runs in 14 innings to pass that mark 'had' he continued to play. Can Ponting do it? punter.pngCurrent List Fastest to 1,000 runs - H Sutcliffe (Eng) 2,000 runs - DG Bradman (Aus) 3,000 runs - DG Bradman (Aus) 4,000 runs - DG Bradman (Aus) 5,000 runs - DG Bradman (Aus) 6,000 runs - DG Bradman (Aus) 7,000 runs - WR Hammond (Eng) 8,000 runs - SR Tendulkar (India) 9,000 runs - R Dravid (India) 10,000 runs - BC Lara /Tendulkar 11,000 runs - BC Lara (WI) 12,000 runs - SR Tendulkar /Ricky Ponting 13,000 runs - SR Tendulkar (India)

It was 6 balls. I don't believe in Jinx threads. The only reason why Ponting got out is because he had not recovered from the sever wounds he had received from the Amer clash earlier. Poor Ponting.

Ricky Ponting reaches 12.000 runs in 247 runs, tied with Sachin for the fastest to 12K. Climbing the next rung will be very hard for Ponting.

Being a die hard aussie fan didn't stop me saying that in my opinion lara was the best out of the 3. There was just something about him when he was on song that no one could get him out. I think it comes down to the lifestyles of the countries too. Australia a lot of pressure from the media for ponting to perform all the time and india of course so much more media scrutiny and fan pressure whereas in the west indies everyone is laid back and the pressure I'd say wasn't all that much every time he came out to bat. Having said that you still have to come out and make the runs don't you.

I dont rate Ponting in the same league of Lara/Sachin/Vivian. But he is leading the league below to them which contains batsmen like of Kallis, Dravid, Inzi, Jayawardene, MoYo, Sehwag, Haydos, Steve etc. Btw lets not much bitter on him on a day he achieved something. Congratulation to him and good luck for tomorrow.

His fall from unbelievable heights of excellence in the last couple of seasons notwithstanding, he’s truly one of the defining batsmen of the post Gooch/Gower/Border/Lara/Mark Waugh/Steve Waugh/Saeed Anwar/De Silva/Azhar generation. At one point, If it’s day 1 of match 1 of a test series and Australia is batting first, you could even doubt if the sun rose that day, but you can guarantee Punter would score a 100. And if that wasn’t enough, he has been part of some remarkable 4th innings efforts by the Aussie batsmen. You can question his overall attitude and snobbery treatment of opposition players, but you simply CANNOT diminish his batting exploits.
