Blundering ways of Indian selectors

Actually he does have a very good technique' date=' Lord. Lets agree to disagree on this. [/quote'] Hes got a very good technique against spin, not pace.have u seen him bat against any pacer?
About acceleration and strokes, I am sure you have gotten to see him at T20 level. He was once a strokeless batsman who liked to play along the ground at all times. That is no longer true.
T20 is diffrent.there u HAVE to accelerate,u have no choice.even someone as deffensive as Kallis hits sixes there. n IPL is no parameter to jusge.the quality of bowling is often pedestrian
About his age - I would actually consider that a big advantage. When Dravid, Tendulkar and Laxman retire, at about the same time possibly, it is going to be critical for us to have a balanced mix of experience and youth. And that is where Badri could come in. Pujara is a good young batsman. But we dont want a middle order full of youth - do we? Which is precisely why we must try and ascertain whether Badri has it in him to come in and contribute. I dont think we have tested him well enough now.
domestic experience is nowhere as helpful as international experience, thats why i want the youngsters to be drafted in now,so that they learn from these guys n build it from there.nice example was with Raina.SRT was ther batting with him.as soon as Raina played a bad shot,SRT would come down n have a chat,i dont Badri can do that we still 2-3 yrs more of Dravid,SRT,VVS.by the time they'll go.Badri will be 32-33,u dont want 32 yr old walking in the side wen u have younger options available
As an example - look at Michael Hussey. I am NOT saying that Badri is India's Michael Hussey. Just giving an example as to exactly how advantageous it could be to have a slightly senior middle order batsman coming in when established batsmen move out of the game.
thats thier culture, they always provide late debut to thier cricketers.n Hussey scored tons of runs before that.Aussie domestic cricket is regarded as the toughest in the world, certainly way tougher than India,so Hussey was rewarded for doing well there.besides i dont think they had many options,we do

Lord - I have watched him play in the local circuits personally in the flesh. Yes, it may not have been international level. But I can say that he does have the horizontal bat shots as well. And can face quality fast bowling. To score a half century against that pace attack of the South Africans he had to have some idea about playing pace, should he not? I am not denying we have options. But think about a scenario where the 3 great middle order giants retire. We cannot ever think of options such as slotting Sehwag later in the order. And we cannot also think of options where we have 3 complete greenhorns in those pivotal spots. Can we?

[/quote'] so thats where the love comes from?i dont blame u.i watched Dinesh Mongia bat live n used to think of him highly:haha::haha: i'm not denying his horizontal shots.i'm questioning his technique against swing.from wat i've seen,he hasnt impressed me at all.

against u r going by stats alone.did u watch the innings?most of his runs early on came thru edges to the boundaries.can u show me some other such innings where he has played quality pace bowling in swinging conditions even Yuvraj has 3 tons against Pak,all of then wen ball was darting around, doesnt make him a great test player, does it?

Badri is a greenhorn too.i'll say it again.domestic experience of India counts for very little.if we plan well we wont have 3 greenhorns in MO.selectors should phase out seniors gradually n allow youngsters some time to learn from these seniors b4 they go.Raina has started well.lets hope he continues

Not just the live action, Lord. I have seen Vijay and Karthik play too from close quarters. And Agarkar too. I really do believe he has a role to play in the Indian Test team. I actually did watch that half century. And those boundaries to 3rd man were not all edges. They were guided there. Also I am not saying that Badri is a great test player. I think he has potential to become one. Well - something is better than nothing, na? So Badri's experience is bound to help. And he has been with the seniors for sometime and will not be in awe. About Raina - do you really think it is seriously possible to mess up on this wicket? :)

i'll take the youngsters's time to grow over Badri's whatever domestic experience.its some body has to learn from the seniors,it should be the youngsters who have potential n time to grow, not a 30 yr old(just a month to go:--D) nobody should be in awe of the seniors.they carry themselves magnificently n make the players feel comfortable

yes,ask Dravid:winky:

If the selectors won't pay attention to proper planning for the futute even the playing XI will keep on getting affected like it has been since last two series. In the series against SA, a golden opportunity was missed to try out the future middle order bats if selectors had planned properly. And in this series we could have moved ahead without a flutter with a fourth and fifth seamer when the first two choice were not available. The present set of selectors under Srikkant has destroyed whatever good wor was done by More &co and Vengsarkar and co.

good work done by More and Vengsarkar? Both were very bad and would rate among the worst. Many one time wonders played and effectively a lucky draw system. With Srikkant, there is a steady improvement and we have become no.1. And you talk about proper planning? What proper planning? Batting is our least of a problem and there is really no reason why to drop those regular and good players. People like you will always complain, if they gave chance to these future players, you would have said it is unwanted and should have stick with the older experienced players. But it really would not surprise me if in future, you start prasing Srikkant as after all you will panic when little gets wrong and be happy when little gets right just like our indian media.

Goodness me. Batting will be our worst problem since now on and there are every chances that we may get batsmen who perform well in India but fail abroad. More: We got Irfan Pathan and Munaf Patel under him and then under Vengsarkar we got Ishant, Praveen Kumar, Gautam Gambhir etc. Sehwag came back motivated, got a golden period from Ganguly for about 2 years and are still getting the advantage of Zaheer when he was brought back. Mishra was listed as the third spinner and immediately gave results when Kumble failed to play the Mohali test vs Aussies and eventually retired. We didn't feel the feel of pinch of his retirement immediately. Which new players have emerged and grabbed their chances under Srikant? Can you list here?

Both, Lord. I just think a little bit of solidity may be called for. Rohit Sharma, Kohli, Raina etc - these are all attacking players. In fact excepting Pujara, I dont see anybody having the temperament needed for true, tough Test match cricket. They may develop that. But it is going to take time. Temperament wise - Badri is far better.

they r attacking in LOIs,but r prepared to wait in four day games.i watched Rohit n Kohli for BPXI against Oz n both paced thier innings superbly, there wasnt any overattacking instict there. Kohli defintely has the temperament.thats why hes done so well in ODIs n also Ranjis.Rohit too i believe will be different player in tests.on what basis do u say,Badri's temperament is far better, can u give me one innings apart from the SA knock?

that depends on the seniors,if the seniors r like Mohammed Yousuf n Afridi who keep fighting among themselves, then it certainly wont help.but we have the likes of SRT,RD n VVS,all who carry themselves magnificently, thier presence can only help if u r willing to learn
Dravid will be kicking himself. As he ought to! :)

Well, Lord, nothing that I have seen of Kohli or Rohit has convniced me about their temperament. Their talent - no doubt. Their shot making ability - most certainly. But not their temperament. I definitely think they will struggle in Test matches - especially abroad.

And yes I have seen Kohli bat in whites, but I dont recall having seen Rohit. Just extrapolating based on their games, I dont think they would be upto it at the highest level.

I havent had the chance to see him bat throughout his dom. career,so dont know, just numbers wont convince me. any big 100 that came against a quality pace attack that u wanna tell me about? Rohit Sharma has a triple 100 in domestic cricket,so he must have great temperament going by ur logic?heck, even Yuvraj has a triple ton in domestic cricket:giggle:

extrapolating ODI performances to know whether they'll be test players?not a great idea.i agree that both have thier issues, but hv time to iron them out.Badri has issues too, whether u agree or not,but hasnt got as much time

Lord - not saying that Badri does not have any issues. But the issues sure are not what have been easily generalized - such as timidity (??), edginess, lack of strokes etc. etc. I feel he has a good role to play. But I agree with you in that I dont think India will give him a chance. And that in my opinion might be a mistake. Apart from Pujara we dont have any other player who has the Dravid spirit in him. And that is where Badri comes in.

but we have Pujara,na?how many Dravids do we need?Apart from him,we do have Vijay(who i believe will bat at 3 wen the seniors go)and Rahane too.Rahane also is in Dravid mould.not sure if he went on the A tour recently, but from whatever i little i've seen,he looks okay. I cant see wat role Badri can play presently.we have seniors to guide youngsters.let them learn n try to establish themselves.if they succeed,Badri wont be needed.if they dont,we can always go back to Badri. i know it wont be the best way to treat him,but it'd be best for the team

I must be candid here and state that for me Indian cricket stands far above these individual players. So, if Badri does not get a chance at all and India still does well, no worries at all. My worry is exactly the opposite. I dont think we are all that settled with the middle order after the greats step down. Believe me, the headlines will tear down these batsmen. Rohit Sharma is the same man who had to be dropped out of the team owing to his lackadaisical displays in that recent ODI series. There is no doubt that he is talented. As you may well know, talent alone is not enough at the highest level. The Steven Waughs and the Paul Collingwoods of this world prove that again and again. And you need such gritty customers too in a team. I see such grit in Badri - hence my recommendation. If Pujara is able to make good on that spot and hold it down, that would be great. And he is young too. But remember that could work both ways. Oh and by the way, I would think twice before going ga-ga on Vijay. He is an impulsive stroke maker. I like the looks of him. And I like how he is pairing up with Sehwag. But lets wait for tougher tests for him. I want to see how he does against bounce and real pace and swing.

that depends on how the selectors handle it.if they allow the seniors go at same time ,it'll obviously hamper.but if they handle it right,i believe we'll be okay. n every youngster isnt looking for fame n glory.still there r kids who genuinely value the India cap n wil work hard

yeah, but if u have talent,u cant ignore.who knows Rohit might be completely different n successful in test cricket.we must give him a chance to know as for grit,Kohli is one gritty batsman.i'm sure he'll be able to grind out n play cautiosly wen needed

Based on how they have gone till now, I do not have too much hope about the selectors doing the right thing and that is my main worry.

Both of them may. And the keyword is may. I just think we will be better off with maybe one or even two youngsters. But we cannot have the whole middle order manned by green horns. Not very inspiring wont you say?

I really think the youngster deserves a chance. For too long he has been waiting on the outskirts. But over and above all this, the reason why I like Badri as an option is because there would at least be one person who has come up through the system the hard way. Again like Mike Hussey. And somebody who can compensate for all the flashy batting from the other end.

its may with Badri too.its not a gaurantee that he'll be a success because hes good at domestic record, its about taking a chance.i'd rather do that with a youngster. n Badri would be a greenhorn too.as i said, domestic experience counts for little.case in point,Wasim Jaffer.selectors gave him a chance on the basis of his dom. record n experience n he couldnt impress.then they tried Gambhir, who was talented but way less inexperienced n he made the opening spot his own

comparing Aussie n Indian domestic structure is futile.Aussies' domestic structure is way tougher.u really have o be special to score runs for that long in thier domestic cricket.sadly thats not the case with India as for a non-flashy player,Pujara,Rahane r the one who come to mind who can play that role.lets try them first
