Skikant and co have been making mistales after mistakes in last 2 years and here we come to know that this first set of paid selectors have been chosen for a four year term.

It was obvious why he was feeling low. Nayar was dropped from the India squad after featuring in just three ODIs. He had faced seven deliveries and bowled 18. But it was enough for the selectors to discard him. Nayar was left wondering where had he erred. He is not the only one asking this question. The selectors — led by Krishnamachari Srikkanth, have left a team of former India cricketers in their wake. The five men have picked and dropped players in the most brazen of manners. And to their good fortune the hoopla surrounding IPL, Lalit Modi and the internal politics in the BCCI has taken the heat off them. Blundering ways A fine example of their blundering ways were the teams picked for the recent tri-series in Zimbabwe and the India A side for England. Ideally, players like Irfan Pathan, RP Singh, S Sreesanth, Munaf Patel should have been recalled and kept in the mix for the 2011 World Cup. Instead, they chose to dole out caps to Umesh Yadav, Pankaj Singh, Vinay Kumar and Naman Ojha. None of them did anything worth mentioning. Sreesanth was called to the Test side for the Sri Lanka series. The pacer was coming from a long break and his fitness was under doubt. The fears came true when he pulled out of the tour with a knee injury. And guess who is his replacement? Munaf Patel, who last played in 2008-09. No one for sure knows what kind of form and fitness Patel is in. A trip to England would probably have given an indication. But then who said that selectors need to have vision? RP Singh is another case in point. He won India Test matches in England and Australia. Post IPL he’s lost zing. Given his match-winning abilities the selectors should have made sure that the UP bowler finds his way back. Irfan’s case is bizarre. MS Dhoni keeps lamenting about the lack of a genuine allrounder. The selectors have been ignoring Irfan for over a year for reasons best known to them. Then there are the likes of MS Gony, S Badrinath Sudeep Tyagi, Dhaval Kulkarni, Robin Uthappa and Manoj Tiwary have all been forgotten after brief trysts. It’s anybody’s guess how many more players will get to wear the India cap and how many more careers will be ruined.

You've got to take the bad with the good. The criticism, along with the praise. People however don't want to look at the blunders of Srikkanth. I really don't want to see the careers of more players ruined.

Of late there has been flurry of players but have not even had a chance to prove their worth. Balaji was a wreck while in New Zealand. He had come with some hope to play but never got a chance. He even played a local game for Wellington side but wasn't given any opportunity whatsoever. I think this selection committee has take one step forward and 4 steps backward. Looks more like this committee has elected to appease the zonal requests not the interest of players at heart.

I don't think you can blame the selectors, most of the test matches India has played recently were in subcontinent, this retread garbage of RP, Irfan, have shown nothing in both IPL and domestic cricket to warrant their recall. Balaji after his back injury was never the same, he never was a great test prospect to begin with so how can you blame selectors for his demise. their selection of umesh Yadav, who bowled the fastest among all the new comers so nothing wrong in giving him a chance.Vinay Kumar was leading wicket taker in domestic cricket it should count for something , so was given a chance. They have not denied a chance to anyone who is more worthy of a spot in test squad and given it to somebody else.

No zonal quota in Indian team selection: Srikkanth There is no zonal quota system in picking the Indian cricket team and once a player is selected he should be given a long leash to prove his potential, national selection panel chairman Krishanmachari Srikkanth has said. Srikkanth said the aim of the selectors was to pick the best team and not to accommodate players from different zones. He said the selectors will have to trust the players they pick and will have to give them enough time to prove their ability. Srikkanth also said that a captain must be somebody who motivates his players.

The first thing that our selectors assured was nurturing our bowling talent and using a rotation policy to ensure their longevity as well as effectiveness, they have failed miserably and India are staring down the barrel in what seems to 90s revisit where batsmen won us the matches and an exact reverse trend of our bowling winning us the games under Vengsarkar's committee. I simply cannot wait for these nincompoops to leave the hot seat and hopefully be replaced by a visionary chairman. It is shocking to see that NO new bowling talent has been unearthed or nurtured under Sri's regime, whereas Vengsarkar's team delivered us RP, Sree, Ishant (in full flow) and to some extent Munaf Patel (lad was very crucial during our first Windies series win in Carib). Reason why I have been utterly disgusted by Srikanth and his teams' policies is because of the ridiculous reasoning behind "just for the sake of completing squad" bowlers who are thrown into oblivion just after ONE tour of bench warming (Kulkarni, Tyagi to name). And I am not the one to be ranting on zonal biased selection, for all I care he could pick 11 players from Tamil Nadu as long as they are capable of carrying our domination in longer format and equally deserve the #1 test team tag.

What has gone with RP Singh? He's completely ignored by the selectors. In conditions which offer swing, he can be a handful as witnessed during the Indian tour of England. Some of his deliveries during that series were just out of the world. And I dont think there is zonal bias either. Just look at the ODI squad - there are hardly anyone from the South Zone apart from one or two.

The problem I have with this selection committee is that they select some back up bowlers for a tour, these bowlers don't get a game and on the following tour they're replaced by someone else.

Srikanth and the current selection pannel have proved to be no different from earlier selection panels. Randomness, biased and illogical selections, lack of thought and planning..these are some of the traits which have always been there in BCCI selections and will continue to remain there as long as we have thugs and goons running the borads as personal fiefdom.

I am surprised they keep ignoring Praveen from Test squad. He has better first class credentials and experience than Mithun. He is a clever bowler who can pick up few wickets upfront. Since Sree and Zak left. they have to look for the next best options. In Srilankan conditions you need swing options. Ishant is not a swing bowler. Mithun is not a swing bowler. Munaf is not a swing bowler. Praveen is. RP is. Irfan is. So they have picked most unfit set of bowlers for the given conditions. I repeat again and again. India's strength is swing. So they should pick players based no that strength. Througout Indian history with an exception of Srinaht hit the deck bowlers never helped India win matches.

i have been the severest critic of Srikkanth on this board.his selection policies have cost us badly and will continue to be a hindrance to this team.If we fail to maintain our no 1 ranking then this guy needs to be forcibly removed.he was handed a great team on a platter and has done nothing to improve the bowling,infact the opposite is true.

Test series loss in Australia, 1-1 draw vs SA at home, a 2-1 loss to Sri Lanka..ummm not exactly the best time to be the selector. Remember when he became the selector (post lanka series and before Aus series of 2008 in India), there were demands for seniors to be dropped and the test team was in turmoil. Kumble and Ganguly left within a month of Cheeka becoming a selector. Give credit where its due. Most of his selections have been good, its some of the bizzaare musical chairs being played for the players on bench and the India A sides which has been a major cause of concern.

Three names from that series I spoke about are Dhawal Kulkarni, Balaji and Murali Vijay. At least Murali Vijay got a few chances but whatever happened to Balaji and Dhawal Kulkarni. The selectors were better off taking 17 year olds than the chosen two for carrying the drinks. I can name at least 2-3 players from each series that were filled in to satisfy quota.
