putrevus Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 he would replace Yuvraj(although UV made 100 in warmup)Irfan can bat n also provide extra bowling option' date='so why not hv it?with the new ball,he can still get swing n be a effective[/quote'] They did in last match he played and India were all out for 76 in 20 overs, this is not Irfan's fault but blame goes on Dhoni too, he is not confident in his batting at no 6 , when he can bat regularly at no4 in odis he should be able to bat no6 and give his team more bowling options. SL is playing with five batsman and mattews why cant India do it, If India needs to come out of this conundrum they need to think out of the box and risk losing in short term to gain something in long term.
Fontaine Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Pathan had a magnificant domestic season with ball and bat. Hopefully he can have one more' date=' unblighted by injury to put his name undoubtedbly in contention.[/quote'] I hope so too. Hoping he can really continue to do well in domestic cricket so that he's selection for the WC is done. We could really use an all rounder there.

Irfan was top scorer in that 76,so not sure u can blame Irfan, tht was just an off day, over all our 6 bats r good enuf n we should play Irfan regularly at 7

I think Gary was saying the same but he needs to understand there is no Kallis in India so we have to adjust with Irfan. When Zaheer and Bhajji are fit there is no need for Irfan in test team but in situation like this it is not such a bad option to have him.

Thats exactly wat i'm saying.Irfan is our best allrounder.either u pick him or stop moaning about lack of allrounders.with Zak out n Bhajji half fit,we need as many bowling options as possible.dropping UV shouldnt harm that much since we have very good top 6.Irfan provides an option.yesterday he could've started with the new ball as conditions were conducive, who knows, situation might hv been totally different

h4te Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 ashwin's good' date=' but we can't have two specialist off spinners in the line-up[/quote'] two? who's the other specialist off spinner? :hmmmm2:
saneindian Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 And when Irfan finally gets picked again (depite his bowling being in shambles), plays a couple of matches, gets hit everywhere, hits some 15-20 runs, people will be blaming the selectors and team management for going back to "tried and tested failures" again. Unless Irfan shows some improvement in his bowling , he should not be playing a match in the sub continent. And if at all he is to be picked to for the senior side, why not send him to the emerging players tournament in Australia? With good conditions that suit his style of bowling, who knows a few good matches there could be the turnaround.

I agree he should have been to england with A team why the hell they did not send him is mystery
sreej Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Anyone remember Gaurav Dhiman? He would have been the perfect allrounder for ODI's and T20s. He used to open the batting as well as bowl first-change. I looked him up on Cricinfo and it seems like he only plays in the Karnataka T20 League, not first-class matches. He has been quite successful as an opening bat but he's stopped bowling though. I'm guessing he'll feature in the IPL next year.
achilles Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 two? who's the other specialist off spinner? :hmmmm2: H4te Singh Bedi.

Always too lazy and took things for granted. Very similar to Stuart Binny.
Tendulkar_Bhai Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Ifran should have been played instead of UV, i cant believe UV is even in the team as he was dropped for the tri series due to poor performance so how has he proved himself in a few weeks!?! Plus he has always flopped as a test player, and according to his recent interview he was talking as he wasnt given a chance in his "peak" even though he is still below 30! Also UV is keeping out our next Tendulkar in Rohit Sharma who needs matches as he is the future of our batting. I can understand they dont trust Ifran as no.2 bowler but no.3 he would do a good job, also RP should be bowling.
