500 pushups in 4 hrs.. come on luks paaee u can do better than that yaara ... On my chest day when i am done with all the major exercises ... i always do close to 150 pushup in less than 5 mins... in 4 sets .. 1st 50 and then low down the reps to 40 and then 25 reps till i finish 150 .. on some days i do close to 200 ... this gives my chest the best pump ever .. i feel its one of the best free hand compound movement exercise. TBH my chest size is bigger than my coach who is a champion BB in our city but yes .. he has better definations.. i am getting close to him ... and age is also on my side.:two_thumbs_up:
150 pushups after chest workout is impressive. (other way to look at it, perhaps you can squeeze in more in the chest-weights session) I have tried few times, but after chest workout I never crossed 40-50 - that too split across multiple sets. Primarily because, I do not like any exercise involving lots of reps - i start getting bored - and chest is my weakest link - due to some elbow & shoulder issues.
150 pushups in 5 mins ? I can probably do it over 5 days' date=' can handle 30 a time :hahaha:[/quote'] There is this 100 pushups routine - http://hundredpushups.com/ You can be zero to hero in 5-6 weeks. There are similar routines for squats (200) and pullups (100). 100 pullups (not one set!!!) is most difficult.

But at the end no gains from push ups so I never do any' date=' the pump is temporary. Great for endurance athlete's but that's that. Won't increase strength or size just muscular endurance : ([/quote'] I am pretty sure you are wrong. It builds core strength.

Probably not, I think you would build core strength alot more with something like weighted crunches of 12 reps. For lower back part of the core deadlifts would build it up. This is just core strength though.

Resistance is resistance even if it is against your own body. You think Arnold Schwarzenegger never involved in push ups? Guys like Mike Tyson could do 500 push ups sometimes with weights. It is an incredible exercise if you add few variations to it.

Mike tyson did push ups and had a great body. For hypertrophy he probs didn't use push ups though. But Im saying push ups don't do anything for hypertrophy or strength, it's got to be something low in reps. They are however great for endurance, boxers need that. What do you mean no scientific evidence, it's common sense weighted crunches at a weight you can do about 12 reps will build core strength. And deadlifts build up lower back part of core... Sure you get a pump, but no size gains These links are not always reliable, there are too many sites on internet with bs broscience, you may be right but I just have a different opinion. My opinion is anything you can do over 15 reps isn't gonna do chit for hypertrophy/strength/power. But it is great for endurance.

RKt don't starve to lose weight. Metabolism will slow down. You will be struggling to lose weight despite eating less. If you eat sufficiently then reduce the portions and increase the frequency. Eating a lot in one sitting is very bad. Also eating lot of carbs at night can hurt your progress.
No. I am not starving. This isnt right option.

From what I've read and asked around for something like bench press/squats/deadlifts Strength 3-6 reps, 3-5 minute break between sets Hypertrophy 8-12 reps 1-2 min break Power 3-6 reps very fast speed of reps 1-2 min break Endurance 15+ reps with 30sec- 1min break Reps according to weight you can manage for that amount of reps when compared to 1 rep max. (unless training for power, lighter weight, faster speed)

Muscular strength is the amount of force a muscle can exert in a single contraction if I remember correctly. So VVS I think it increases more with exercise with heavy resistance. A resistance you can do 500 reps will probs have negligible impact on Strength.

We have body builders on this thread who are contradicting you and these are the guys who have actually tried everything (regularly and not being a pu$$y and giving up after a month) which I am sure, you have not

Im interested to hear what Lurker has to say about Push ups increasing strength or size. I hold my opinion others have theirs... It's all good, just putting what I believe out there

Yes. that i know. In any exercise you have to constantly increase resistance. With basic pushups you cannot increase beyond a point. But you can try variations. Several of them. But you cannot possibly deny that all those who train for Mr olympia do have push up routines. 26-arnold-schwarzenegger-push-up.jpg

Spot on, like weighted push ups. :two_thumbs_up: But bench press etc would be more effective I believe.

I just said bodyweight push ups don't increase size or strength unless you can only do less than 15 reps. VVS talks about variations, no one here said doing 100+ push ups (bodyweight) is to gain size or strength. MHR does 150 after a work out but he didn't say it was to gain strength or size. Probs for endurance.

Just curious' date=' does anyone here look at Arnold and say, I want to build a bod like that?[/quote'] vein popping? :cantstop: Actuallly he was actually one of the few who had terrific body without looking ugly. Also you should be willing to take steroids to maintain a body like that.

What is so contradicting here? It goes by definition: Strength - How much force you can generate in short time. Endurance - For how long you can continue producing certain optimal power output. Its as simple as that. So, when you are doing lots of reps, like 50-100-500 pushups, or squats or crunches - you are just training for endurance. Endurance is different from hypertrophy/strength-training... Power lifting is purest form of building/displaying strength - which is more closely related to hypertrophy, than building endurance. A beginner will get some size and strength gains by doing pushups / free body weight exercises. But will hit plateau (of size and strength) pretty soon. Increasing number of reps like more and more # of pushups, is not likely to help gain more size. It does not mean a body builder can not benefit from large rep sets...but definitely not when he is looking for size gains/strength gains. In fact, it is advised that - when you are in bulking phase you better minimize cardio too ( 1-2 sessions max) - just enough to minimize fat gain.
