I am referring to the power play confusion in the last match. Since we usually are quire prompt to condemn any act that might be even slightly against the spirit of the game, I want to step forward and praise Mills for his honesty that day when he resisted the temptation and stood by his word. Even if there was nothing left to gain in that match at that point of time, it was a very nice gesture. Also, if I was Dhoni, I would remember to make sure that things are official because others may or may not be as honest. And I would also praise Rauf for not making a big deal out of it. Because if I was in in his place, I would not have liked to hear that the captains are conducting the game between themselves without ever informing the umpire. May be Mills deserved a warning for forgetting to inform the umpire.

Well, its batsman's responsibility to let umpire know that they are taking the powerplay. So great job Mills for standing up when it mattered. Also don't know why it took umpires to figure out after 4 overs. They should have known with the field placing that power play is on.

Technically power play is not on if the umpire hasn't signaled it. I am sure good umpires make it a habit to only observe and refrain from assuming anything at all.

it was Dhoni's faullt.hopefully he learns from it.doubt anybody would've stood to his word if the gaame was still on

Can't really blame Dhoni for the fiasco. Mills had informed him about it and he placed the fields accordingly. It was Mills' duty to inform about it to the umpires. The only extra thing tht MS could have done is to pay attention to the umpire and whether he had signalled it or not.

not really he should take the umpires word only, not the opposing players',as I said I dont think anybody would've stood to his word if it was a crucial game n the game was on.then it'd been embarassing. or Dhoni could've himself told the umpires that NZ r taking PP. It was Mills' duty to imform, but he could've said that he didnt say anything to MS,then what?

Good on him but Rauf and Ashoka did look like they weren't going to allow it. Horrible mix up from all sides. Mills did signal the PP towards the umpire but for some reason the umpire never noticed it. He was facing mills but wtf was he looking it at that time? Dhoni and Mills then didn't wait for the umpires signal. This will atleast bring a rule change. The bowling team captain should get the signal from only the umpire and not the batsman in the future.

It was Mills' duty to imform' date='but he could've said that he didnt say anything to MS,then what?[/quote'] Probably 1 game ban from NZC. :D

Agreed, but I guess no bowling captain infoms about batting PP just because of habbit.

It is and he might have refused it as well and that would have made it all the more embarrasing. It's like the practical demonstration of a loop hole in the law, and from now on the fielding captain would also start paying more attention to it.

They had the video. They showed Mills signaling it in the umpires direction but the umpire didn't notice it(maybe he was day dreaming).
yeah but all that can only happen after the game. IMO Dhoni should only adjust the field after he sees the umpires signal

Yes. Only after the game. The 1 match ban was a tongue-in-cheek comment comparing to the Randiv situation. I am not sure about the rules. But if it wasn't before, it will be from now that Bowling captain can get the PP signal only from the umpire and not the batsmen.

But question is are umpires that dumb? Field changes, Mills slogs, still there is no change in field only 3 men out of 4 overs. Are these umpires that dumb?? Shouldn't that inqure with batsman or captain, whats going on??
