KARACHI: Even as Pakistan Manager Yawar Saeed announced end of England tour for the tainted trio of Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer, sports minister Aijaz Jakhrani on Thursday said the players may play the one-day series. Jakhrani was also not keen to use the word 'dropped' and said the trio was just 'unavailable' to play in the Twenty20 series against England. Jakhrani said the three players, who allegedly took money from a bookie to bowl no balls during the Lord's Test against England last week, will be in London to "cooperate" with the Scotland Yard's investigation into the 'spot-fixing' scandal. "They are not playing because they have probably gone to answer the investigating team. They are not at the venue where the matches are being held, so they would not be playing. Probably they will not play Twenty20 matches but they might be back for the one-dayers," Jakhrani said. "The information that I have received is that they have gone to London to answer some questions and that is why they are not playing in the Twenty20 matches," he added. Saeed though had said a little while ago that they will seek replacement of the players after the T20 series, which will begin on Sunday. The Minister said action against players would be taken only if the three are proved guilty by the Scotland Yard. "This has been the stance of the government. We are waiting for investigations reports to come, only then we will decide on taking action," he said. The allegations have not been proved and the charges have not been pressed yet. We will not take any action until the charges are proved," he said. Asked whether the Scotland Yard had given any evidence of the players' involvement in the scandal that has plunged the game into a crisis, Jakhrani said "concrete proof" was yet to be given. "At the moment I have been told that there is no clear evidence that has been given by the Scotland Yard. They haven't shown anything. We all are waiting for the investigation report to come," he said. "After that, we will be in a position to say whether it is spot-fixing, match-fixing or a conspiracy because there are reports that there has been a conspiracy against young talent Mohammad Aamer," he said.

Proving a criminal charge is completely different to an investigation of the ACSU by the ICC where there are rules and regulations set by a sporting body. There arleady is compelling evidence from the video footage of predicting the exact time and place of the no-balls. Sure there might be ongoing discussions about leniency and what not but everyone from Australia to England have accepted that these guys have cheated. The only uncertainty is the way this was communicated, the money that changed hands and how long has it been ongoing. These *****holes can continue to play word games but the reality is sane current and ex-cricketers know these guys are cheating ****s. Not to mention what a complete ass Mohammad Asif looks like now. Being caught doping twice and now his ex-girlfriend being interviewed by the ACSU over her claims of having proof of what a scum bag he is. Assif, a doper, a druggie, now a cheat.

It is ICC's issue and it's no different than what Pakistan has done before in their politics. When confronted with facts or strong allegations they escalate the issue to the highest level of politics. Essentially, it's not the cheating players vs the ICC/ACSU. It's now becoming the PCB/Pakistan Politics vs the ICC/ACSU. Essentially Pakistan will try to bully and intimidate the ICC now that Pawar has taken over. These people are so insecure and cowardly that any attack on any one individual, no matter how dirty and loathsome like Asif, they treat as a matter of national pride even when the facts are staring them in the face and say otherwise. This is probably the first instance in sporting history where the politics of an entire "democracy" have come out to defend a two time doping cheat and now a fixer. These people have dragged themselves in the gutter here instead of allowing the relevant authorities (ICC etc) to take due course. These cheating bastards deserve each other.

What happened to Pakistan's PM and President saying this was national shame and the guilty will be punished severly? Looks like the army generals ordered them to defend the players.

One Paki journo kept on asking questions about the Indian Angle.. lol Chewtiya Scotland Yard..they must've records of phone conversations but are now sitting on it due to pressure from the top to have some mercy on completely failed state like Pakistan who are out there with begging bowls and this issue is affecting them badly.. Top level deal might have already been worked out..

"They are upright young men . . ." "We will inshallah stand vindicated . . ." Looks like the high commission have already made up their mind that the players have nothing done wrong. Like I said these cheating, two faced liars deserve each other. With a team full of dopers, drugies, deliberate underperformers, ball tamperers and now fixers it's a fitting team to represent the corrupted politicians of the country.

On top level, Pak Govt. must have got some sort of deal going with the UK Govt. The line of action, "Don't beat a man who is already down..This will hugely affect the flood victims relief efforts..Their blood will be on your hands..Don't do this to Pakistan otherwise it will implode and terrorist will run amok..Okay, what do you want? We will give/kill certain terrorists, in exchange..Okay we will not criticise Cameron and his 'favoritism' to India..What else you want?"
