A request to all posters ( very humble ) Please, lets not generalize all Pakistanis. There are plenty of sane, rational heads who have questioned their team and this "denial" by the people and media consistently. The shoe could be very easily on the other foot. We have to be more careful now for our players instead of merely poking fun at them. But when the charges are this serious, and the initial evidence is so compelling, it behoves responsible adults to comprehend the stakes involved. The removal of Amir, Asif and Butt from the touring party would not have been an admission of guilt; it would’ve been the simple and sensible thing to do under the circumstances. It would’ve served the purpose of sending a signal to the rest of the cricketing world than we mean business, and we’re going to handle things properly. And it’s not as if the three players would have been in tip-top mental, emotional and psychological shape to play cricket anyway. But as it is wont to do, the PCB shunned its responsibility, and made the ICC do its work for it. And that’s not all. You could almost excuse – almost, I said – the PCB not suspending the players straight away. Perhaps they wanted to send a message of solidarity with the players. Perhaps they didn’t want to appear as if they were kowtowing before the big, bad ICC. Or perhaps they simply wanted to be stubborn. Whatever the rationale, you can at least understand it, if not agree with it. But what’s decidedly worse is the denialism that seems to have engulfed the usual suspects. Not to step on Nadeem F. Paracha’s toes, but it is truly amazing how blind to reason and fact segments of our society – and government – can be. Saying the players are innocent until proven guilty is one thing. But it is most assuredly another thing to suggest that the players have been “set up” – as the High Commissioner to the UK Wajid Shamsul Hasan did – or that the players are the victims of a conspiracy hatched by Indian intelligence agencies. People actually believe this. Evidently, the Indians were in cahoots with a man who was the agent for half our team for years, as well as British tabloids, all for the express purpose of derailing the careers of our young stars. @ravishingravi, I hear you but sometime you have to call spade a spade. We are by now used to most of Pak fans denying everything and drinking "pakistan can do no wrong" koolaid. But what p*ssed me off was some Pak fans tried to put obvious cheats like Asif & Aamer with the likes of Dravid and Tendulkar!!! Take a look at some of the posts by Pak fans on this thread... http://indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=238535 Sometime you gotta follow the saying "laaton ke bhoot baaton se nahin maante". I am not saying all pak fans are the same but you can go through multiple posts/forums/threads and you will see that majority of them follow the same approach I have listed - case in point Pakistan High Commissioner to England who thinks this is all a "set-up" and a "conspiracy" to malign Pakistan!!!

In fact, the HC made himself look like a joker on the world stage. India does not have any stake in this issue and I am not sure if Indians should get dragged in these pety catfights. Nobody is questioning Indian player's credibility. Pak. fans are completely isolated on this issue and you can see if some of them want to drag a few names with them while they are sinking. But as I said, world doesn't care. Sure, there are some idiots who just fail to see the truth. I mean the country is a borderline "failed state" and yet remains in denial of it. But not all Pakistanis. Those who are informed and aware of world affairs are in absolute "shame".

Our disgust, our jokes, our anger, our frustration is directed exactly at those people. But guess what -- it a country has 80% of more of its population in such a mess -- generalization is the way to go. I have been interacting with these radical scum bags since 1999/2000 on various forums. Some were available (without registration) like Indian Express forum, and you should have seen how the majority of these scum bags posted. This was during the height of tensions like Kargil and then the Indian Airlines Hijacking and of-course 9 11 happened. Sane people voices are presented far and few in between. Even those who want to speak out the truth either don't or are threatened by the powers to be I guess and the case remains closed. Case in point -- Yaseer Hameed ! Look at the way he is getting lambasted. All for what -- speaking truth, even if it not 100% true -- say 50% true -- the Paki Govt. The Organization PCB, the HC Office call him in there, more than likely he has already been threatened so badly that his pants are already soiled. Another case in point -- When Dawn broke out the details of Kasabs Parents after the Mumbai Massacre. You know what happened. Point is Good People are not allowed to prevail in that nation. They are a minority. If so called good people are even more than 50% it would have been a different story now. It is not. Denial has been the way of life in that sh!t hole ! Ignoring problem is a solution to their problems! Whether you like it or not Majority in Pakistan support this way of life in Pakistan. They always have. To them this is the Pakistani way of life and they want they world to come to grips with it. Let us go back to the Asif and Akhtar drugs issue, come on -- they found it in their urine sample and they are let go, and dare I say -- majority of the pakis supported that and they all had a wry smile on their face asking for "P-R-O-O-F". Which is exactly why ICC took the reins away from PCB and suspended the trio now, because they just don't trust the PCB anymore. Ironically enough, it is their Country players who have shamed their country, yet majority wanted them to go free, despite damning enough evidence lying in front of their face. Last but not the least -- there is some outrage in the Paki community now after this scandal. Can you find out how many of these very same guys agree that their country men were involved in Mumbai Attacks. I will be damned if the answer is more than 20% of the population (if that).

LAHORE: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued charge-sheets to two of the leading Pakistani cricketers after finding their replies to the show-cause notices served on Aug 21 as unsatisfactory. Well-informed sources in the PCB told Dawn that the two players are Salman Butt and Kamran Akmal who recently received the charge-sheets issued by the ICC. “The ICC had issued show-cause notices to both players on Aug 21 and asked them to reply within 14 days. As per the notices, the players were asked to provide their mobile phone numbers which they had used during the World T20 in the West Indies besides some other information,” the sources claimed. Both the players submitted their replies to the ICC but finding them unsatisfactory, the game’s governing body handed charge-sheets to the two which were delivered at their personal addresses and not through the PCB, sources claimed. Sources further said that although the PCB had some reports about the wrongdoings of Kamran Akmal, it was totally unaware about the activities of Salman Butt who was elevated to the post of Test captain for the current tour of England after Shahid Afridi had stepped down in the first Test. Sources said that while the two players were delivered the ICC notices on the same day that Pakistan won the Oval Test, the PCB ignored the importance of the same and, in fact, went onto announce special victory bonuses for the players and the team management. Meanwhile, sources further disclosed that the succumbing of PCB chairman Ijaz Butt to some influential politicians in the country soon after the Aussie tour debacle resulted in the shameful controversy on the current tour of England. They pointed out that while the PCB had rightly penalised seven leading cricketers over poor show and indiscipline on the tour of Australia last November, the politicians pressurised Ijaz Butt to acquit as many as four of them — including Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Kamran and Umar Akmal — with only former captain Younis Khan and all-rounder Rana Naved being the two exceptions. Mohammad Yousuf chose to call it a day then without contesting the PCB ban. He was, however, called out of retirement to join the team in England last month. “The political pressure to exonerate the penalised cricketers was tremendous at the time and some close aides of President Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani were, apparently, involved. However, the sources agreed that had Ijaz resisted the political pressure then and upheld the penalties imposed by the board’s inquiry committee, he would have become an instant hero in the eyes of cricket fans as well as the critics. But, unfortunately, he preferred to please his bosses who had played a big role in his appointment as the PCB chief and assured him of an uninterrupted tenure at the office. The sources added that the very politicians were now asking Ijaz Butt to stay back in England and sort out the present crisis so that the blame is not shifted to their name.
