Indiafan_Hyd
The ICC's anti-corruption and security unit has privately expressed its frustration that "several" boards on the sub-continent have failed to act against some players following information from the ACSU. While Pakistan is chief amongst them, there are also grave fears regarding the Indian Premier League Twenty20 extravaganza, which has blurred the line between sport and entertainment. Is it cricket or World Championship Wrestling played with a bat and ball? The fabulously wealthy Board of Control for Cricket in India has created the perfect environment for corruption in the game. It set up this massively popular new competition, surrounded it with parties so players and their suitors could mingle freely, then refused to pay the $1 million price tag to have the ACSU involved until this year. So for the first two years of the three-year competition it was open slather. One corruption expert described the second IPL, in South Africa last year, as a "bet-fest". He told of how a planeload of illegal bookmakers flew over from India and made merry. After the first IPL in 2008 now retired ACSU head Paul Condon warned that, "the IPL brings with it the biggest threat in terms of corruption in the game since the days of cricket in Sharjah". The Sharjah tournaments were said to have been a hotbed for illegal bookmaking and match-fixing during the 1980s and 1990s. They were run by former Pakistani captain Asif Iqbal, the first man accused of irregular activities, during a Test at Calcutta in 1980. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/sport/leadership-foreign-to-iccs-wise-monkeys/story-e6frg7t6-1225914030133

Zap_Brannigan
First,It might be a bet fest , just like any other tournament, except since it was paki free, the players weren't in on it. Second, the ACSU has just been shown how to do their job by NOTW in just a few short months. The ACSU is useless.
cowboysfan
exactly.it would have been a good argument if the ACSU was competent but its not. They need to give the ACSU more powers and bring all cricket under its wing..

achilles
Passing a sweeping judgement in a "relevant" yet irresponsible manner. Does CA pay $1mil to ACSU to be a part of their domestic structure? If yes, very good. If no, DO NOT CRITICIZE US.
